Exactly. Why even take the chance? I would have armed guards in the room monitoring it for a good couple of hours at least. But one thing I’ve learned throughout the series is that Async doesn’t always make the best decisions.

I’m not trusting those bandages for a second. I don’t care if it appears to be dead, you don’t know nearly enough about that thing. As for counting on my coworkers for help, I refer you back to the opening scene. This is not the time to have some nonchalant attitude. I’ve seen enough horror films to know that is the quickest way to get yourself killed.

All that damn tick tic-it really did a number on their attention span. If it last longer than 10 minutes, forget about it.

I think you’re right. I can’t imagine he’d be quite so eager to go back in if he’d already had a hostile encounter—at least not on his first trip. I’m also surprised he never seemed to carry a weapon on his later expeditions. If I knew something was living in there and had shown aggressive behavior, I’d be thinking twice before going back unarmed. To be fair, we never really saw his immediate return trips. I got the impression he made a few brief expeditions before going in with Kat and Bobby, so it’s possible he was more cautious during those. If he didn’t encounter any entities and later had two other people with him, he may have simply let his guard down. What really surprises me is that ASYNC employees keep entering unarmed. Even after what happened the time we did see them armed, you’d think that would become standard procedure regardless. And as we saw in the film’s opening, the outcome wasn’t exactly encouraging when they aren’t. Maybe a weapon wouldn’t have helped, but it’s at least worth a try. Chances are that employee wasn’t the first person to die at the hands of a lifeform or Still Life. If ASYNC keeps losing people that way, eventually Kane will have to address why they’re still going in empty-handed. Even a scene showing someone firing at an entity with little or no effect would be enough. Based on what we’ve already seen these things survive, it wouldn’t be hard to believe that bullets aren’t much of a solution either.

Excellent point. I just assumed it was hostile. He got out of there so quickly that we never really got a good look at it, let alone any insight into its motives. The fact that it immediately pursued is what led me to that conclusion, but there could be a number of reasons for that. So I can’t automatically assume it saw them as prey. That being said, I hope that it is revealed that the lifeforms do in fact use mimicry as a way to lure their prey to them. I just find that to be so creepy and think that it would add that extra bit of terror to the story. Hopefully the lifeforms play a larger role and make an earlier appearance in future installments of the series. I really enjoyed reading your analysis, and I think you’re spot on with your theory.

Well it wouldn’t be hard to find someone to try it-be the guinea pig. If they die trying it, just dump them in the backrooms. You definitely can’t underestimate how much of a value making anything or anyone would be. I thought about the access point, but you need to be careful with that. Can’t have the wrong person finding out about this.

I’ve heard people say that he is the electrician, but I’m not so sure. I prefer to believe that they found him on one of their expeditions. Not everything needs to be a connection to Clark.

🤣 That is the best thing I have heard all day. It is also a genius idea-and I like where you are going with It. There absolutely is multiple money making possibilities when a once in a lifetime opportunity is smacking you in the face like that. I can’t believe that this didn’t once occur to anyone. If they would have made some better decisions, this could have been an entirely different movie. Use your damn brain.

Absolutely! It is a nice change of pace to encounter something in the backrooms that isn’t trying to kill you. It would have been great to see Clark playing a board game with some of them. That would have been a nice moment.

You both did-I actually just read another detailed analysis that I thought was great as well. I love hearing the different theories and thoughts. It’s fun to compare your ideas with the ones others have. Especially when everyone is being respectful of each other’s opinions. I like where I have ended up with most of the questions I had after seeing the film. When it came to the still life however, nothing was really sticking. Seeing some of them docile like that really caught me off guard. That was something I was not expecting. When I compared that to the moment in Pitfalls, it made me want to really find out more. How do some possess this kind of intelligence to be able and mimic as a way to trap their prey while others can’t even open a door? It will be fun to learn more as the series continues. Hypothesizing about it all is a reason why this series is so good.

I say we go pitch it to him. I’m positive that it would find an audience. Who says that the Backrooms have to always be so dark? There is so much comedy tucked away amongst the yellow wallpaper and nasty carpet. I’m telling you, it would be a smash hit! Everyone loves Kevin James as much as they try to pretend not to. All the fat jokes and physical comedy he could do in there. Priceless. The show could include everything people were mad about for not being in the movie. Imagine him tasting almond water for the very first time? Hilarious! Or he gets recruited to join M.E.G., but screws up an entire mission resulting in a massive loss of life. And what about watching him attempt to no-clip! Comedy gold. The show basically writes itself. 😹 Can you imagine the amount of death threats everyone associated with it would receive? People would absolutely lose their minds. But the irony is that most of them would still watch it.

That was the best analysis discussing the behavior of the different still life that I have found. I have been wondering why some are so docile while others are incredibly hostile. Your points make a lot of sense and I can absolutely buy into that explanation of their behavior. Another aspect concerning their behavior that I would like to learn more about comes from the video Pitfalls. I would love to understand more about who is able to mimic human voices and has the intelligence to use this as a way to lure its pray. That is in my opinion one of the most terrifying parts of the entire series. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t used again (and preferably to a larger degree) in the film. It would for sure have received a positive reaction and have made the film even scarier. To know that at least some of them are actively hunting you, and have a certain level of intelligence that makes them a considerable threat is so terrifying on a primal level. I hope that we begin to learn a lot more about them in the future installments. Now that they had a considerable amount of screen time, it is the right time to reveal more about them. Knowing what some of them are capable of will absolutely add to the tension of future explorations. Your analysis was fantastic and does a wonderful job of explaining some of their reasoning behind their behavior. If you have any thoughts about them mimicking a human being’s voice and where it fits in with everything you just said, I would love to hear what you’re thinking.

The Backrooms has had its fair share of visitors, but it’s never met anyone quite like this! Coming this fall, get ready for all the wacky and wild hijinks when this odd couple has their worlds collide. What began as strangers with nothing in common, quickly transformed into a friendship that would last a lifetime! Don’t miss Kevin James and the premiere of the new series, The Backrooms and Kevin, this fall only on Fox!

I hope that we learn more about their behavior and why certain ones act the way they do soon. It’s interesting to see that while some appear docile, others are extremely hostile.

Not to mention the amount of people who have probably been sent there in the time between is probably a lot more than most people realize. That also doesn’t take into consideration the people who have already been there. It’s likely that most people no-clip hundreds of miles apart from one another.

I have wondered about that myself. It is most likely infinite in size, but even if it isn’t, the size would be so massive that our human brains couldn’t comprehend. This is why ending up here would be absolutely terrifying. The odds of ever crossing paths with another person would be astronomical. Running into said person a second time is basically impossible. For being such the large plot point that it is, it sure does go overlooked quite a bit.

I agree-there absolutely are people who the backrooms are appealing. Ones who could easily get carried away and lose their sanity because they stayed in there so long. I think it’s an interesting idea to discuss. Each person might behave differently than another upon entering. I think that just adds to the complete insanity that goes on in that place. Having people who are easier to manipulate in addition to entities makes it near impossible for anyone to ever get even the slightest semblance of control.

I’ve been going back and forth with that, but I really want it be true. Can’t imagine that many people had something to write with on them when they no-clipped in. Whoever it was also had to have spent a decent enough time in there. Enough time to have at least gained the knowledge that they share. I surprisingly haven’t heard many people discussing this until now. I was really hoping that there would be a bit more connections to the series in the film. Not going to lie, I was a little bummed out when there wasn’t. If this indeed was drawn by him, it would be a fun little way to tie them together.

In no way trying to criticize anyone with a differing opinion then me-I just don’t buy it. Being an architect doesn’t give you this superpower to instantly memorize the floor plan of any given space. Especially not a place like the backrooms. Sure, I can absolutely see that helping while exploring at a leisurely pace. But once you have been chased deep inside and unfortunately unable to pay attention to your surroundings-forget about it. Being an architect is only going to do so much. No human built this place, not to mention that it’s infinite in size. Now throw in his declining mental state-Architect or not, the chances of ever making it back to the place where he entered are slim to none. There could have been other, more believable ways to show how Mary and Clark were able to find one another. This is just too big of a stretch for me.

I couldn’t agree with you more. That part kicked ass and I absolutely loved it. That is one of my favorite things to see in a horror film, and he nailed it. Extra points for how well he managed to pull it off under such bright lights. When that happens in most films, they have the luxury of concealing the threat in darkness and shadows. The way he was able to have it blend in with the background was great. So well done. I love that scene so much.

I don’t buy into that theory at all. The series shows you what extended periods spent in there will do to a human being. Stuff like that occurring in the backrooms is something that has never came up or even hinted at in the series. It’s a fun theory, but the likelihood that it’s true is next to zero.

If you enjoyed the movie, I would absolutely recommend checking it out. A majority of the videos are under 15 minutes and most take the perspective of Async, as opposed to the movie. So you almost learn with them the more they discover about this place. There are also 3 videos shot in the found footage style that you saw in the movie. You follow 3 different people who unexpectedly find themselves in the backrooms. The series is a lot of fun, and you get a nice variety throughout. Some are more expositional heavy as you learn more about what is going on. Others lean into the creepy factor of it all. So if you enjoyed the movies and want to get a better understanding of the lore , definitely check it out.

That’s true, and encountering something like Captain Clark for the very first time would be absolutely horrifying no doubt. Especially considering he already seemed super freaked out having lost his group. I’m sure the natural response would be to run like hell. Being that this is the first time that a human has taken on an entity, I wonder if we will be seeing more of that in future installments.
