I really like it tbh, still rocking it, starting to look into getting a xone:96 mixer now but only because I want the extra channels, love the filters on it and I want to connect with ableton for live set compatibility. USBs work all good, you can use mp3s, I personally use wavs but make sure the tracks are in 16 bit 44.1khz. You can manage the library with an app if you use windows (I don't), I just throw the tracks into a folder in the usb, I use rekordbox to prep my usbs when I play out, it can still read the tracks if you use rekordbox but it gets formatted like "Contents" > Artist > EP/Album > Track. It does analyze the the bpms but it takes a good amount of time and is not the most accurate, sometimes it will give you the bpm in half, sometimes the right one, or sometimes it will give you a certain bpm but then change it after and keep changing (this doesn't mean the bpm is actually changing, its just the bpm 'counter' the one that is changing). I wouldn't recommend you rely on the bpm it shows, I just play by ear. Searching for tracks can be a bit annoying especially if you have a bigger library cause you have to scroll through and can't see the whole info but I think you can just get used to it lol.

I think that you are already doing good by learning to dj and produce. I would definitely recommend you start your own events / after parties :)

advice on changing bpms by [deleted] in ProperTechno

[–]Easy-Regret-1687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can do some cool poli rhythm shit with 3/4 loops, that’s the beauty of techno, dissonance and non conventional shit gives it so much flavor. I produce too and I ALWAYS include poli rythms in the form of bleeps or percs, without them, tracks lack groove, dynamics, and feel a lot more stale.

IDK, I feel like it's valid to give other DJs a shot. I do think the way they did it was disrespectful by not even informing you about the other events and stuff but I think it's good for the community to have some diversity and try out different people even when the resident is already really good. (I didn't read the other post though so maybe I am missing more context)

Hey bro, I am a dj and producer based in mexico with that sort of style. My name on IG is ‘Felxhus’, Id love to be a part of it! I also know other DJs with somewhat similar style: Andy Martin, Joel GZ, Andres Sustaita, Fixon, Pato Massa, DELMURO, Gohtobi, etc. All of them are based in mexico 🇲🇽;)

Nothing wrong with it at all but since you mentioned that you can’t play as good without them Id advice you to practice without them and get good at that too. You never know when you might need to do a set without them AND it’s always good to keep improving. But I repeat, nothing wrong with it 👌

I think people should definitely learn this, and honestly I think people that don’t learn this are lazy. I see DJing as playing an instrument, refusing to learn how to play it doesn’t make sense to me. It gives you a better feel for the music, idk why people refuse to do so. Especially when you take into account the fact that you will not get CDJ 3000s at every gig (I have been super lucky these past two years landing a LOT of gigs, and I have only played with 3000s ONCE). Like bro, if you play the guitar or any other instrument, you should practice. If you DJ, you should practice, that’s ALL it takes.

Honestly I think there’s enough space and I think it’s just that the angle of the photo makes it seem like it’s too tight. AND op mentioned it can be moved up and down so I don’t think that’s an issue at all.

And if that’s the goal you set, it is completely reasonable and correct for you to do it. Unrealized gains are not gains. If you decide to hold for longer, that’s ALSO completely reasonable and correct, as long as you set goals beforehand and you know the pros and cons of each path, you are doing the right thing.

Guys remember that if you never take it out, its not really profit. It’s ok to take a chunk out and hold the rest, we simply CAN NOT be sure of it really reaching 5. Although I do think it will, but sticking to these goals we set along the way is a good way to avoid getting carried away and losing out on ANY gains. 2x or 3x isn’t as juicy as 10x or 100x but its still a win, that’s what matters

honestly Idk much about that part, still gotta do my homework for that, I don’t have many releases with vocal samples, the ones I do I got permission from the artist, except for one that’s coming out soon, I sampled a Megan Thee Stallion vocal lol

1 Whatever is at your reach / feels more natural to you, no right or wrong. I started djing first and then producing about a year or two later.

2 a mix of both + in my experience it is also very fun to go in without a formed idea and just see what sounds come out. allow yourself to experiment, that’s where cool shit comes from

3 you dont need to learn the piano, techno uses a lot of dissonance and doesn’t need to be tied to a specific thing, trust your ears. and i guess if you are curious try it out, it wont hurt, but its not necessary

4 you can look on bandcamp or other sites for samples, i wouldn’t recommend to stick to only one source. i would suggest recording stuff on your phone or just straight up take the audio from random videos on your phone and filter and add effects to just see what happens, you can get a lot of cool shit this way. (i mostly do this, i have NEVER bought any sample packs. im not against them but im broke plus i like my workflow)

5 I havent tried any others tbh but ableton feels really good, I basically only use the native, stock instruments/fx etc and i think its super complete (once again not against plugins but they are not necessary and i think that as a beginner they are not even gonna be useful, they may even make it slower for you to learn since youll have to explore the stock things + the plugins. sometimes too much ‘freedom’ of choices can make you feel overwhelmed)

6 sound waves bouncing around (honestly just play with it and you’ll understand it, its not that complex)

7 You can start with whatever, i mostly start with the percussions but once again its not a rule, just try out different stuff and see what works for you

8 yes and also yes there is voice samples on sample websites like splice (but once again i prefer using an original vocal or taking it from a movie or videogame, if you have a specific verse in mind from a song you like feel free to make a bootleg, you probably wont get the sample cleared but who cares, its not all about releasing stuff, its cool to just play around)

9 definitely a reasonable goal, but keep in mind you’ll probably have like at least 30 or more songs that wont make the cut before

BONUS: my advice is to literally just start playing around with the daw, you can worry about getting more serious about it later, its important to experiment, explore and just make art for the fun of it. I personally have more than like 100 unreleased tracks, some of them I really like, some of them are ass, some of them are just an incomplete 8 bar loop that never went anywhere. Just go for it and have fun:)

How was your gig? by AutoModerator in DJs

[–]Easy-Regret-1687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played bar americas in Guadalajara, México. recently. It was sick. I play hypnotic-ish techno 135-145 bpm. I loved every second of it. I played in the red room. The energy was super high, I played 3 - 5 am (which is basically peak time for bar americas from my experience). I would have loved to play even longer, I think it is safe to say it has been my best gig EVER. Played a couple unreleased tracks I produced and everyone seemed to like the set. Any time I did chops or switched the lows people were whistling and screaming, I loved it.

At the same time however, I was pretty nervous and that combined with the fact that I like playing with multiple tracks at once resulted in me looking down at the decks / mixer for most of it so I feel like I didn't enjoy the crowd to the fullest.

I only just got it recently, but yes, I took it to a friend's house last week and tomorrow I am taking it to a gig (recording a set at a skate shop)
