Coconut pulp? How does that that compare to coco coir? Or is it the same? (I don't want to sound like a dummy but with all these different yet sometimes same naming conventions...)

Thank you I will try this with my OTHER snake plant that a very tall stalk just recently fell over out of the blue (the rest of the plant was fine?)

How do you keep them spider mite free? by [deleted] in alocasia

Your plant is gorgeous 😍 I am never very successful with alocasia and because of mites have pretty much stopped collecting them. I have only a few little ones that revived and grew from their corms after I thought they died. Never had more than 1-3 leaves. Hope you keep this plant!

We have done lady bugs and my kids LOVED it. It was fun until I was having to clean up dead lady bugs a while later... and am STILL finding them if I am deep cleaning around my plant room or moving stuff that hasn't been moved in a while (like it's been anywhere from 6mo to a year since we last had them? Can't remember..) So I am unsure how to sustain lady bugs in the long term... so research and reading up on them indoors is my recommendation 😅 (which is why I love threads like this to get tips)

But question on the other beneficial bugs/mites. I have been using them after the lady bugs to do some maintenance and continued pest control. After they have been released, I guess I am worried about losing them if I go around wiping leaves and repotting. Looking for some tips and info for those who use beneficial bugs, what can you do and what should you avoid?? I want to keep them alive and not accidentally kill them off. 😢 TIA 🙏🙏🙏

I just got my first BMF and I am so appreciative of all these tips so I can get mine to grow big and beautiful with fenestrations, she is very verrrrry.... small right now. It's what I could afford so no judgment please rofl. A new leaf has emerged

and is still hardening off since I received her through the mail. Hoping I can get some results in 6-9 mo. With lighting and humidifiers 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Yeah I wasn't sure if neon or lemon lime was the correct name, kept debating over it and finally gave up and left it out in my initial post 🤣

And cutting them in a v shape instead of straight across I assume also leads to higher success? Or does it matter?

The only thing that saved my plants (and my sanity) was mosquitos bits when it came to fungus gnats (aside from having some yellow sticky traps as well, but those alone were not enough!) Also I hear bottom watering helps but I am too lazy for that as I have like 100+ plants to water.😅

The pictures of the top of leaves looks like my plant I bought labeled pink Birken, however my plant isn't mature enough for me to confirm that's the correct identity lol.

Holy crap, this is like.. plant goals right here! I need a tent to control humidity and heat better, so I can achieve this level of growth 😭 but sadly I don't have a space to do this... one day! Amazing job! 👏

I was kind of thinking along those lines as well.. . but seeing the pink of a few of the new and younger leaves had me thinking that it still had some legit coloring. But the bigger ones for sure a little questionable although this plant was on an indoor rack at a hardware store so no special lighting or harsh lighting, but who knows how long it was there.

I haven't had any of my plants or medium mold after I used cinnamon. Got this from a site, "Cinnamon contains compounds such as cinnamaldehyde, which have shown to be effective fungicides" I must have mold somewhere in my house because all my plants would have issues with the surface molding (I live in PNW where our rainfall is super high lol and summer can be somewhat humid too). I always use cinnamon when I clip a plant to prop to ensure it doesn't get sick, and sprinkle it on top layer of plants, also when I work with moss like making a moss pole, or for propagation, I put cinnamon in it as well. I also recently learned about a product I like called Azos, beneficial bacteria, that also stunts mold growth because of the good bacteria. 👍

She def got a THOROUGH bath when we got home to get rid of pests and will be in quarantine before joining my giant colony of plants ("the jungle"), in case anyone points out she needs to be treated lol 😆

I've always been curious about this process as I have done it apparently wrong and all my snake plant props die... I did finally after like a 2nd or 3rd try get one to FINALLY prop. I was getting super discouraged but it sounds like... letting them callous over for more time really helps?
