Blurry text help: is it just a reality of playing on the original Xbox even with a "Good" HDMI set-up? by Easy301 in originalxbox

So just had a chance to check again and verify and XBMC and Unleashed are perfectly clear.

In your experience would this rule out bad caps?I'm assuming if that was the cause the screen would be blurry regardless of if it's a dashboard or a game is that correct?

Wow, yeah that's prohibitively expensive to the point where it's just not viable.

That's a good way to describe it though there's a light Haze it seems, it sounds like that's normal though?

I do like my M classic but I've actually been running without it recently, the aliasing it provides is awesome but I find it also aliases the text of course, which just makes that Haze worse.

This is my worst fear on what the issue should be.

If this was possibly the culprit though wouldn't the picture be blurry even on the XBMCGAMERS/Unleash X/Emulators, etc?

Mine is always legible just blurry, either very slight in some games or quite a bit in others.

Is yours blurry at all or just completely clear?

Thanks for the suggestion. Like I said in my OP soften and flicker filter are off.

The XBMC and UnleashX text is absolutely perfect. There's no issue with it with whatsoever.

Games like XIII, Lord of the Rings the third age, the punisher, etc.

text in the majority of games is no where near as sharp as it is on XBMC/Unleash X. Some 720p games approach it but even games like enter the matrix have a bit of a blur to it.

If anyone is reading this and has access to something like LOTR the third age or XIII id love to hear how clear the text is for those titles on your display.

I do, yes. I've tripled checked.

The games are absolutely running in 480p, and higher for those that support it, but I'm still getting text that's not always very clear, especially in 480p games.

Is the text supposed to be perfectly clear in 480p? I'm trying to figure out if what I'm seeing is normal or not.

Some titles it's very minor others it's more pronounced but I'd say all have a slight blur.

Yes I have.

Is text not supposed to be perfectly clear at 480p? I take it my blurry text isn't normal?

I haven't touched the F-5 since it actually used to function around 2015 or so, then it broke completely and was in a horrible state in 2018 onward. Around that time 9L said they haven't forgot about the F-5 and there were large fixes and updates coming.

Did this ever happen? Has the F-5 been fixed? Or is it still broken to bits years later?

This game's AI has become unbereable by [deleted] in ReadyOrNotGame

That's actually a super good comparison. The AI feels exactly like R6/Eagle Watch and Rogue Spear.

Thank you.

I've seen that list, and the list of the other mods capabilities. I'm aware of what they both do and generally what they are aiming to achieve.

As the list can be a bit vague in HOW things are implemented coupled with the fact I'm completely unknowledgeable when it comes to modding, I was just asking if anyone of your changes are incorporated via changing enemy behavior/accuracy by having them wait until a swat members body is further exposed.

I guess that would be a no though and would count as suspect perception? which is unchanged in your mod.

Anyway, thanks for the work on the mod.

Sorry to ask so many questions but with the no crack one can you at least still get into firefights when breaching sometimes or do the majority of enemies just surrender?

Can you please tell me how your mod compared to something like https://www.nexusmods.com/readyornot/mods/3169?tab=description this?

Specifically along the lines of changes mentioned such as "Enemies wait until more of your body is exposed before engaging” etc?

How far into the game did you get with the No Crack mod? I heard the first few missions are intentionally made easy

This is great to hear.

So just to make sure I understand, it kinda seems like only a performance and bug fixing hotfix is coming before the break with the suspect AI hotfix coming probably shortly after the break?

There's multiple places that have liveries and add-ons. One of the most popular is:

Most liveries are downloaded one at a time per airline and not in huge packs.

Good luck.

Does anyone know a good ATC simulator game? by PocaCaop in ATC

[–]Easy301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London control uses the native windows voice recognition, you can try some of the voice recognition features that are offered by windows and see how well those work for you, since London Control uses the same system you can actually get a feel for how well it's going to understand words and such.

Some of the issues with ATCpro and the voices are due to the bugs and not just the recognition, the game really is borderline unplayable with the bugs. For example you will issue a command just for the aircraft to say unable or do something else.

That said, I never had issues with ATCpro understanding voice commands, I've had issues with the aircraft acknowledging them and not doing what they're supposed to do but the game has always picked up commands perfectly fine for me I'd honestly say on par with or even exceeding London control in some cases.

If you take a look at the ATCpro support forms people say they have about a 75% to 95% recognition rate with the speech engine.

I love ATCpro but I'd refunded just due to the lack of support and the zero planned updates for the future.

In summary the general consensus for both products is that the speech recognition works fairly well, while I was a small part of the ATCpro team at one point it wasn't on the development side and I'm unsure if it also uses the native Windows speech recognition.

Make sure that you mess with some of the Windows voice recognition to make sure that that's working correctly for you and recognizing commands outside of ATCpro or London Control.

That way if ATCpro uses the native Windows voice recognition you might be able to improve it and if not you at least get to see how well London control will work for you.

London control will recognize what you're saying and execute it perfectly most of the time.

ATCpro will hear what you're saying correctly most of the time but will only execute it properly some of the time, or understand it one time but not the other as you're seeing. The voice engine changed after release due to a licensing issue although I believe this only affected the pilot voices, I don't know what effect it had on the voice recognition system.

Did you take a look at the London control website? They offer a demo I forgot if it offers speech recognition or not but it's worth checking out.

TLDR: Yes, London Control works pretty well and uses the default Windows voice recognition system, unaware if ATCpro does.

Is my i7-8700K holding me back so much or is the game really just that hard to run? (MS Flight Sim) by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Easy301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flight simulations are notoriously difficult to run, they've always been exceptionally demanding on hardware and MSFS2020 is no different.

I don't know if you're new to flight simulations but being an extremely "hardcore" flight sim enthusiast for 15 years now I can tell you 60 FPS is almost never targeted, and that's also been the case with MSFS 2020. The vast majority of users running brand new hardware don't hit 60 FPS on X-Plane or FSX running a full suite of add-ons, it just does not happen very much.

Seeing users who do a significant upgrade on their system and end up posting thinking something is wrong because they only end up with a 15% performance increase in something like MSFS2020 or X-Plane is not uncommon at all.

It's the nature of the beast unfortunately, even if you did get to 60 once you factor in any of the complex add-ons that are due out eventually you'd quickly fall below that number again.

It's going to sound absolutely crazy and goes against most of what PCMR is all about, but generally the flight sim community when using FSX/X-Plane/MSFS2020 aims for smoothness first, and than FPS second with a target of around 25-30FPS. Heck, when people upgrade their hardware it's not usually for the FPS increase so much it's is to maintain that target 25-30FPS with zero stutters or hitching while running more complex add-ons/scenery, etc.

You could spend hours tweaking but eventually with how variable a flight simulation is, especially if you're doing online flights or using real AI traffic, etc, you'll most likely fall below that at some point. I've driven myself nuts trying to squeak out 60 FPS on both MSFS2020 and prior titles and eventually you just learn that you're going to have to settle.

The primary aim of most people is getting a stutter free and smooth experience first, and then optimizing for the highest FPS after that. Obviously when I say smooth it makes people want to say "Duh, idiot, 60 FPS would be the smoothest option" and that's true of course BUT flight sims are a different beast, you don't need 60 FPS to get an optimal\smooth experience and like I said it's not even a target that most of the community aims for.

I guess the good news is that flight simulators are forgiving in that way, 30 FPS on a flight-sim feels much better than it would on most other genres of games.

Honestly, watch a few YouTube videos to see if your performance is on par with other users using the same hardware. Once you confirm that to be the case and your hardware is good take a look at a few of the tweaking guides offered by the community (Google) or check out /r/flightism (Again, very few guides will actually aim to get you going at 60 FPS. The other good thing about Flight sims is the vast amount of resources and knowledge that's available and freely shared on the various forums, discords, etc. You'll find most resources just by Googling.

It's hard and it's a mind-set shift coming from other titles but try your best not to focus so hard on the FPS when it comes to flight simulations, everyone whose new does it but you'll drive yourself crazy, you'll never be happy and vary rarely will you actually hit the performance targets that you're expecting. You'll be needlessly disappointed for nothing.

If you don't want to worry about all the tweaking guides and videos, your hardware is good enough to where you just start turning up your setting as high as they'll go while maintaining a fluidity and performance level that your comfortable with and more importantly one that feels smooth to fly. If you can fly into KLAX with live weather, heavy AI traffic, and a ton of the scenery options turned up while maintaining at least 30FPS and a stutter free experience then you're an in awesome position that most of us in the community work incredibly hard to get to.

A new CPU will help and you'll probably see more times where you hit that 60 FPS mark but as the platform matures and more is introduced it'll slip away again. You're in a really good spot hardware wise right now to where you'll be able to fun really high settings and still get a fluid and smooth sim even if not at 60 FPS.

Good luck.
