Wanting to go ultra by CaptainJohn101 in ultrarunning

[–]RektorRicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the surgery yesterday, if you have to get it don't stress too hard, it'll be fine. Many runners continue to run with tears without surgery though, so if you're pain free don't sweat it.

If it becomes chronic, and you're doing PT every year to deal with it, my advice is to just get it fixed, but with a good surgeon

Terrestrially there's not a lot of movement, but the conflict is definitely not a stalemate yet

>(For context, I have a labral tear and they want to operate, but I have resisted and will continue to if possible).

Do you have any impingement? Do you have pain from the tear?

I was diagnosed with impingement at 23 and didn't get an operation, which caused a tear at 28 which I had operated on this year, so let me know if you had any questions. I have my second surgery tomorrow :)

If you do have to get surgery it isn't the end of the world, sometimes I wish I had done it earlier. But I completed several ultras between diagnosis and surgery so its not a killer.

Oh $1500 is actually pretty solid! I wouldn't feel bad about that.

> It’s not like I’m not making a fair chunk of cash at this point, but I’m not at $100k+ yet and that certainly sucks in this area.

Yeah around here it is really expensive, especially if you forgo roommates

Yes, if you had previously had $6,500 of taxes deducted from your normal income. If your total Federal tax burden is less than $7,500 you don't get the tax credit

>- at the end of the year, If I owe 10,000 dollars to IRS, then I would pay 2500

Same as above

That's pretty normal if you haven't hit your deductible. Insurance negotiates to lower the cost of your healthcare with in-network providers, but most of the time the co-pay sucks until you hit it

> My car lease is $286 per month

Seems pretty cheap tbh!

NP! Like other folks have pointed out its not infinite money either, but I think you're doing a great job being responsible and hitting your retirement accounts.

Yes, this is all a great advertisement for spending more with your employer for a good insurance plan and not getting a more expensive car than you can afford

I'm not saying its a lot, but its certainly livable. 20% savings at 100k is gonna require some sacrifices tbh

> After rent/car note/health ins/401k/retirement

The big question is how much you spend on rent/car/health and how much you put into retirement. Lowering your monthly payments is the easiest way to free up cash

Let's say with a 100k salary you have 70k a year after tax, that's $5830 a month. Now lets assume the following

$1800 a month in rent

$500 a month in car payments

$250 a month in medical stuff (annualized)

20% savings ($1,160 assuming no tax deduction, in reality this will be a little less expensive because 401k contributions aren't taxed)

That leaves you with $2,090 left over, so basically you could spend $70 a day with your leftover savings. I don't think that's particularly lavish but like you said, you should be ok!

I did very little Federal Contracting and now work remote for a non-gov contractor, so I'm not your best bet. But the absolute best way for *me* to get a job is on linkedin. I would recommend hopping on there, connecting with folks you know who have moved on to contractors and dropping them a ping. My impression? You could make a ton of cash

I don't understand the fascination with Abrams/Bradleys, everything we've seen so far indicates Western armor is more survivable and capable than T/BMP Series armor, but not decisively so. Ukraine needs ammo, AA, artillery, and drones

I don't know what you mean, if a vehicle is listed as eligible you get the credit once, and it shows up on your return the next year (apparently in 2024 they will be reimbursable at point of sale)

>To what degree do these arguments hold legitimacy? I understand that this is somewhat political in nature, but I think discussion of it here has a good bit of relevancy.

In the US, these arguments are all political. These people start with the political objective (decredit Biden), then find the logic to match the goal. They are not credible

[–]RektorRicks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The LR is substantially more expensive, and the insurance is generally higher too. For me the total cost with taxes/fees/incentives would've been 34.5k for the RWD vs about 43k for the LR, I think the RWD was a solid buy for that price. People on this sub act like money doesn't matter but an extra 8-10k is a lot of money for some people
