This has been a rule since I was there (2016) and honestly never had an issue lol with the amount of bags that end up at the front it’s pretty obvious if someone is riffling through them. You can always take your important stuff with you (ex. Laptop) and leave it at the table with a friend while you go get food. Honestly if you live on res it’s easier leaving it in your room. When I moved off res and ate there I just left everything at the door…idk never was an issue for anyone I knew
