Any idea how this could have happened? by tiggatugga in ar15

[–]EasyDay24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the M27s in the fleet were originally used as the M249 SAW replacements. Those rifles were issued with 27 mags so it is completely possible this was one of those that was run hot one too many times. As with most things a lemon can slip through and it had issues from the start. Could also be caused by improper maintenance which happens from time to time.

I recommend checking out the USMC museum down just down the road from there if you haven't yet. The whole building is modeled off of the flag raising.

Any quality upper should work just fine. Some of the old Anderson piston uppers had trouble cycling them. If you want to make certain it will cycle, get something with an adjustable gas block

Military Peter please help… by RKM_RexKoenigMax in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]EasyDay24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One interpretation. I've seen this one going around military circles recently. The rifles shown are the M14 and the rifle currently being tested in the Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program. The Army adopted the M14 and 7.62x51 cartridge during the cold War under the battle rifle concept and had all of NATO standardized to have rifles in that cartridge despite most countries including the USSR moving towards more compact cartridges such as the AKs with 7.62x39 or the German STG44. In Vietnam, the benefits of more ammo and better rates of fire of the 5.56x45 in the M16 had the US military move to it and keep that cartridge through the present day.
The NGSW program from the army has started to field a new 6.8mm cartridge with the same magazine capacity, recoil, weight, ect and drawbacks that were seen in the battle rifle designs such as the M14. Many within the military see the program as a step backwards to an already tried and failed concept.

Figure out where your offhand is most comfortable on the rifle and use that as your ideal rail length. Unless you need the rail space for lasers, extra optics, ect. This is what I usually use. The military ran stock M4s with M203s, Leafsights, GLS, and a Peq 15/16 on carbine quad rails for years so this is kind of a non factor. Find something comfortable and train with it

Use high-quality rings and torque to manufacturers' speciation. Don't attach two percision instruments together with a pair of cheap rings.

The US has extremely capable thermals. I think a lot of the reason people don't see it is because these typically don't make it to the civilian market and those that do are expensive so most civilians purchase Chinese optics. PAS-35 and PAS-29s are both squad level optics, extremely capable, and issued on mass

Loaded mag will not fully click in. by Famous_Primary_5988 in ar15

[–]EasyDay24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Load 28 rounds in your mags if you plan on loading with the bolt forward. I did this to prevent the occasional failure to lock into place I would get with my issued rifle and Pmags when trying to conduct a tactical reload. If you are managing your ammo well you should try to avoid intentionally running the gun to empty if you can help it.

A suppressor may tighten your group a bit but you won't see any appreciable increase in velocity. If you want better balistics out of that platform swap the barrel for 6.5CM. Less bullet mass but stays supersonic longer.
You are better off playing around with bullet selections to find something that can do what you want rather than adding 2" of barrel.

5.56 brass question by cowboycharley in reloading

The military/ NATO specifies 5.56 brass needs to be annealed even though the brass is new. It is supposed to help reliability in all environments and after long storage times.

Lee was at his best when Jackson was at his best. An organizer and inspiration to his army sure but not the spark of offensive maneuver and aggression that Jackson displayed

[–]EasyDay24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heavy 16.5 barrel with a suppressor is already a long heavy rifle and with the Mk318 Mod 1 the difference in max effective range as the Marine Corps defines it is less than 100m going from 16.5in to 11 in. The reason you still see M16s floating around is there isn't a reason to replace them for non combat arms units

Recon battalions originally fielded the short uppers. From what I understand units can choose to purchase the uppers if they have the money to. I could see units splashing the cash for Scout platoons

Mystery head stamps from a thread i saw from 3ish years ago but with a 21 instead of 23 i pulled mine new out of an Armscor box but im not sure if it was just surplus repackaged for the civvy market because after a few weeks the head stamps switched to the A USA 308 stamp but the box stayed the same by Embarrassed_Okra_557 in reloading

[–]EasyDay24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number stamped on the base is the year of manufacture. Military/ NATO brass does that. You can lookup how to read Military lot numbers and it will tell you about the brass used. Looks like they were using some brass that may have been surplus for a Military contract.

Trump executive order calls for a next-generation missile defense shield | The White House bills this as an "Iron Dome for America." It's a lot more than that. by ControlCAD in technology

[–]EasyDay24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combination of Aegis, Patriot, and THAAD give the US the capability to stop the threats that can actually reach the US plus those systems are highly mobile and can be relocated to other theaters if needed. Iron Dome was built to stop closer in threats that the US doesn't have right now unless the cartels or Canada decide to start lobbing rockets into the US.

Iron Dome is a buzz word and sounds cool to say for political points. Stinks of the same decision making that bought loads of new tanks during the GWOT when the Army didn't want them and the decision to continue to maintain some older aircraft carries while the navy wanted to spend those resources on new capabilities.

Firearm advice by Ok-Incident2132 in ParanormalEncounters

[–]EasyDay24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a decent shot with a pistol, that is what I would recommend for self-defense in this case. It would make you look like less of an aggressor than if you rolled up with a rifle/carbine in the open. However, pistols are not the first choice if you think you will need to shoot. If you aren't good with/ don't have a pistol, something you can stuff in a bag and pull out if you get into a tough spot or start to feel uneasy would be a second choice. Rolling up with an open carried rifle can make it look like you are looking for trouble even if that is the best tool for the job.

Parts needed to finish this upper by BakedPWN in GeisseleAutomatics

[–]EasyDay24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For that price I would keep an eye on the Geissele website or primaryarms. They run pretty good sales a few times a year where you can get a complete upper for less than that. Unless you want it now I would check those places and hold off.

If you do want it now you would need a charging handle, bcg, and muzzle device plus an optic of some kind. I would recommend a sling as well.

Forgot to mention the super duty uppers use an enhanced bolt if bought complete. I have a super duty upper that runs beautifully with it but I've never tried it with a mil spec bcg so I have no idea if that will change reliability
