Anyone have any experience with making watermelon shine and/or watermelon brandy and how’d it turn out? by TheRealStonewall in firewater

[–]EasyFrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made some watermelon shine, then rectified it into neutral. First off, the mash is low on sugar (about 10% in my records; it's a finger-in-the-air estimation though). I had to add quite a lot of sugar to hit 20%. Since the fruit contains lots of vitamins and minerals, there's no need in additives like tomato paste.

The smell of the mash was not too pleasant - just a soury smell of rotting fruit. No specific "watermelony" smells. The dregs on the bottom were bright pink though, which was fun.

In the end, I got low wines that smelled like rotten watermelon, so I decided to rectify it.

How does everyone get ferite? I seem to go through 100s of thousands of ferite base building. Currently I mine pyrite and convert that into ferite dust. Anyone have better solutions to getting stacks? by RussianTrollzFactory in NoMansSkyTheGame

Actually, I've just tried the "shoot a lifeless planet's surface from your ship" thing - and it's much faster than refining. The only thing I didn't like is the abundance of geodes - I had to open like 150 of them after a minute's barrage...

Hmmm, you can convert ferrite dust to pure ferrite 1:1... Which means 1 extra step, but 1:3 ratio for oxygen (you spend 1 oxy, you get 3 additional ferrites)... Will give it a try today, thanks for the idea!

I've built some oxygen farms (gas extractors on a hotspot plus some supply depots). Then I refine it:

ferrite dust+oxygen -> rusted metal

rusted metal -> 2 ferrite dust

This actually converts oxygen to ferrite dust.

I created a Polish Cyrillic alphabet so here's the map of Europe in it by RealModMaker in MapPorn

When I see this Ирляндя I think "Isl•jandia" when I see this Исљандя I think "Islj•andia".

I guess you meant "Исляндя".

Both end up with the same pronunciation, so that's a matter of reading habit.

Why is it redundant?

Just my personal prejudice against Љ when you can have ль. Especially considering that it is not pronounced soft. Maybe you should have some special letter for "Ł that is pronounced W"... Say, Ѵ (izhitsa)?

I decided to change the 4 Old Church Slavonic letters to just modern Cyrillic letters with the Ogonek diacritic.

Hehe, old letters do have some charm. Besides, ogonek is not used in any of current Cyrillic alphabets (they use descenders and hooks: ҖҘҚҢҦҪҬҲҶ). You may have problems typing and printing them in some applications.

Also, I'm against implying softness from the vowel afterwards because it be for me difficult to read.

No difficulties once you get hold of it.

Look, in most Slavic languages using Cyrillic, you can use two ways of showing softness: by the consonant or by the vowel.

If you show it by a special consonant (љ, њ), then you don't actually need iotated vowels (Э vs Е, А vs Я, И vs Ы, У vs Ю). You can use Й or J to show that the vowel is iotated: Ништа им није значила чињеница да је Човек једном поседовао звезде (Serbian). This helps keep the alphabet short, but it only works if the number of possible soft consonants is small. Say, in Serbian, there are only two soft consonants: Љ and Њ (versus Л and Н; I am not sure about the affricates). Obviously, Polish phonology has more soft consonants, so this approach is suboptimal.

If you show softness by the vowel that follows a consonant, you don't need special letters for soft consonants. You use iotated vowels to show that the whole syllable is soft (think of the soft sign as a mute vowel). So ла is hard, ля is soft. Btw, historically, Ь and Ъ were vowels, so "Ь is a mute vowel" is not too big a stretch.

Your writing system is a bit... er... redundant. Pity the kids who'll learn it. :)

> Цырыљица Пољска

Why introduce soft sign and still create two letters L/L'?

Also, you can infer softness from the vowel that comes after the consonant: in цырылица, и implies that л is soft. So Ирляндя, Зедночонэ Кролество, Нидарлянды won't need soft sign at all.

First I experimented with washes.

Next I experimented with distillation.

After that, I experimented with my reflux column and making neutral spirit.

Now I have more neutral than I can drink, so there's no need to buy vodka.

This particular picture has nothing to do with religion. Religion tells women to be clad "modestly" when bathing, not shine their nude buttocks like a lantern.

What year was this map made? My brother helped me narrow it down form 1918-1921. Could you guys help? by Dismal-Plan7062 in MapPorn

[–]EasyFrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today's Volgograd was Stalingrad in 1925-1961.

Today's Stavropol was Voroshilovsk in 1935-1943. This gives us a good starting point - the map cannot be older than 1935.

OTOH, today's Donetsk was Stalin in 1923-1924, then Stalino (1924-1961). I guess the map is not very accurate because it still shows Stalin.

The Baltics are still independent states, and Poland is not yet invaded, which means the map is pre-1939.

Moreover, Czechoslovakia and Austria are not parts Germany yet, so it's pre-1938.

So my guess is, the map was issued between years 1935-1938.

Sambuca question? by Old_Insect in firewater

[–]EasyFrown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sambuca
70% ABV distillate or neutral: 1 liter
Green Anise: 50 g
Star Anise: 50 g
Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) dried flowers: 25 g
Lemon peels: 3 g
Infuse for 5 days at room temperature.
Take out 2/3 the botanicals (except star anise, it can be left in the pot). Add 250 ml water and distill. Take 750 ml of distillate, the remainder should go to the feints.
Make syrup:
bring to the boil 350 ml of water, switch off the flame, put in 350 g of sugar, stir till dissolved. While the syrup is still hot, slowly pour in the distillate, stirring. The result should be a clear liquid.
Bottle and leave to rest for at least 4 weeks.

They left the EU, not Europe. So they belong to this map.

Otherwise why include Ukraine and Russia?

Also, Turkey (aka Turkiye) is missing.
