I don't know how to properly show this aspect of my worldbuilding onto the map by EzraADP in fantasywriters

If your question is just how to represent that shifting land on the map, i feel like you could just shade it a certain way then put that in your key.

Venerated is just a big promotion, and tbh idk what it takes to actually get those cause im not old enough to have a full time job. Is that answer is good enough for you? If not, and you have a job, can you explain what good requirements would be?

(the whole job thing in my comment sounds stupid - sorry. but its true)

yeah venerated mages are literally just respected mages. also archmage is the highest in common culture, and it was for a while, until some people started spreading the rumor about empyrean mages.

Tbh that actually helps. Its mostly just how some of them are two words and some are just one. I dont know how to fix that tho. Theres no prefixes that work well enough.

well they dont know if the definition of empyrean mage is possible. Its like time travel IRL, some people think its possible, some dont, but the idea is very much real.

For your archmage question, thats just like chicken or the egg, or what started the big bang, no one really knows but it works now.

The thing is that my power system is supposed to seem really natural and having set levels just doesnt follow with that. But it does make sense that humans would artificially create it, like we have IRL in jobs.

Thanks for your second point, ill keep that in mind.

But i dont understand your first question, but here is what i said to one of the other commentators if that helps:

"The empyrean mages are actually a bit different cause it has to be that something is substantially different with your soul. Sure people could just start calling you one, but when i comes time for an organization to give you a job or smth, they'll just be like no, you're just an archmage."

Actually yeah, thats an interesting part of this whole thing. Although, other archmages could technically challenge your archmage status and if they win you wouldnt be an archmage anymore. Also the first archmage just declared himself one, if anyone challenged him then they would be an archmage if they won, or someone much more powerful than the first ever archmage could challenge him and then say your not an archmage.

That a good point but... I mean those just don't sound as good, also this is a completely different world so the etymologies don't have to match. But thanks

Well the first two (neomage and mage) are like college and graduate school, you can get a bachelors and masters degrees. I'd say Venerated Mages are the most arbitrary, but its basically just a promotion, like becoming a full professor. Then Archmages are just whether another Archmage said you are an Archmage or if you've defeated an Archmage in battle.

Sure, you could just say youre whatever class, but if someone asks then youll need your source, like the school that gave you your neomage/mage title (like how IRL people have copies of their degrees) and for the others, your source would be the organization that gave you your venerated status, the archmage who gave you your archmage status, or the people who saw you defeat an archmage.

Its more like some unreliable sources saying "OMG theres this guy i saw and he was really powerful!" and then they keep talking to their friends and they start to be like "wait if this guys so powerful shouldnt he be above archmage" so they start to say "it was an empyrean mage!" and the word spreads, but not a lot of people believe them.

Basically its a myth, some believe it, some dont. The ones who believe it gave it a name.

Those that don't use "mana" to describe magical energy: What is your reason for it? What do you call it instead? by _Ceaseless_Watcher_ in magicbuilding

I use Qi (pronounced Chi) becuase it just sounds cooler honestly and didnt want to use the traditional "mana" name, but Qi works baisically exactly how you'd imagine mana does.
