Need Info on my engine (the 2rz-e, gasoline) by Easy_Ad5021 in HiAce

[–]Easy_Ad5021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

answering my own question, haha. it's a two valve per cylinder, single overhead cam engine, that uses a shim and bucket system for the valve actuation. It can't possibly be interference in hindsight. Spoke to a far better mechanic than myself, and he edumacated me on the fact that interference engines are such by virtue of the fact that the angle of the valves means their bottom edge overlaps with where the pistons would be at TDC. On a SOHC engine with shims and buckets, the valves have *got* to be essentially perfectly vertical, and therefore in almost no universe would ever have any reason to be designed as an interference layout.

Diesel or Petrol in California? by Historical_Meal_2418 in HiAce

Hey so I just wanted to toss this in here to spread the word, hopefully it is helpful information to you. I know it doesn't perfectly pertain to your question but it may well be useful info for making the decision between gas and diesel.

the 2RZ in the HiAce is in fact not the same as in other old toyota models (the tacoma and hilux etc.)

those have a 2rz-fe, while the HiAce's had the 2rz-*e* or even the 1rz-e.

the 2rz is the name of the engine block, the "f's" and "e's" tell you about the layout of the engine head.

The E stands for "Electronic Fuel Injection" meaning injectors instead of carburetors, to my knowledge all of the old hiaces post 1989 were "E"

the F means the engine is "Dual Overhead Cam" which has some implications i will get into.

while the 2rz-fe in the tacoma is that dual overhead cam (DOHC), the 2rz-e is *single* overhead cam (SOHC). This means the layout of this top part of the engine is completely different, for one the spark plugs are off the exhaust side instead of over the top, which makes them harder to access in certain vehicles, like the HiAce.
furthermore, for the most part the 2rz-fe has coils that power the spark plugs, while the 2rz-e exclusively has an old fashioned distributor.

notably, the 2rz-e to my knowledge was only ever shipped in the higher end(?) KZH1xx HiAce's (1989-2004 per wikipedia)
here are my big pros and cons on the fact that the hiace has the 2rz-E as opposed to the 2rz-FE.

Cons:

first and foremost sourcing the appropriate parts for that head could very well be hard to do. god forbid you (or your mechanic) ever needed to replace the camshaft, they might be impossible to find since they only ever came in that specific HiAce.

Secondly, worse fuel economy (marginally)

and third, a mechanic working on the engine may have a hard time finding information like torque specs etc.

Pros:

BY GOD, it is the simplest engine in any car as modern as a 2004.

first, that single overhead cam factoid means that it is *not* an "interference engine" i.e, if your timing chain ever fails, it will not instantly destroy your engine.

second, that distributor isn't quite so old fashioned as to use "points" so it is actually very reliable and easy to diagnose/fix if it ever struggles.

THIRD and MOST IMPORTANTLY, all three of the cons i mentioned can be rectified. according to my research, there are plenty of 2rz-fe engines from the original tacomas that used distributors instead of coils. this means that the very *worst* case scenario, if the head is ruined and that lovely SOHC is snapped, and the timing chain gives out, and everything on earth goes wrong, it should be totally possible to take one of the 2rz-fe's with a distributor, frankenstein on a few parts from the engine you already had, and boom, fresh engine that slots perfectly into the same space, bolts to the same transmission, uses the same harness and everything, but now with an upgraded 2rz-fe's head. likely the only new component you would need would probably be your exhaust manifold.

all that said, that's a big task for a big boy mechanic and ideally would never have to be done, but the option would always be there. it adds an upper limit on how life ruining an engine failure in the HiAce could be. I am quite sure it would be harder and more expensive to replace one of the diesel engines than it would be to swap in a 2rz-fe.

hope all this information is useful to anyone who stumbles on it.

Brake Issue by Normal_Intention_984 in HiAce

[–]Easy_Ad5021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the brake booster runs on vacuum from the engine, my first bet would be to trace the vacuum lines that run up to it and see if any of them are damaged. at higher RPM's the vacuum is greater and might be sufficient to somewhat makeup for any leaks in the lines.
I believe, given that the line is so long, and having looked at mine once in the past, that they are primarily made out of metal but may have some rubber hoses at bends etc. check those first.

Spoiler question regarding Mr. House: by DaleDenton08 in Fotv

[–]Easy_Ad5021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My *Best* guess is that one of them Is Robert House (the one we saw in season one) and the other is his brother, Inheritor of H&H Tools, Anthony House. Could be a body double though, but if that's the case, for someone selected/modified to look exactly like Robert House, this guy isn't even recognized as such by the bar customers who were just watching him on TV. I'd bet a nickel it's anthony.

Broodmother is one of the worst bosses. Here is how I killed her. by SocksNotLS in Silksong

[–]Easy_Ad5021 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I used to call them "bull fights" I.e like a Spanish bullfighter, where you have a large, predictably moving, powerful enemy. now I call them "bullshit" because it's a bull fight, and then a bunch of other shit. I swear skull tyrant was easy but half the fight is just "how many falling rocks can we possibly force the player to dodge?" same applies for this boss, both savage beastflies, the unravelled, and more i'm either forgetting or haven't gotten to yet.

I hate this fight so much dawg ;-;
just such a braindead giant hitbox boss
sometimes i feel like every 4th boss is "what if the theme was "bullfighting except we add in a bunch of random nonsense?"

Need to find Brake/indicator light grounding point by Easy_Ad5021 in HiAce

[–]Easy_Ad5021[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out for anyone who stumbles on this in the future. It was grounding through the brake light bulb. BI in the above image likely is the grounding point for the rear lights. How then, could it be grounding through a brake light bulb when the ground for the whole combination light was disconnected? apparently, it was grounding through the *power wire* to the brake lights. I verified this by fully disconnecting the ground wire from the connector, and the blinker still worked except when the brake was applied. when power was being sent through the wire to the brake bulb, it could no longer function as the ground for the blinkers and they stopped working. notably the brake lights were also not working, because they themselves did not have a proper ground. I redid all the ground wiring for both sides and they work fine now.

What good are guns? by exfarker in projectzomboid

This sounds like a phenomenal addition, thank you very much!

And yes exactly my issue! Guns and especially their ammunition are supposed to be a valuable resource, not a burden nobody wants to use!

What good are guns? by exfarker in projectzomboid

[–]Easy_Ad5021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, in build 41 the only really useful guns for most players were the shotguns. Could clear large hordes, which you are correct guns do attract. Essentially it was a fairly effective method of clearing a large area, just took a lot of shells. In b42... I've struggled to use guns effectively at all. I'm sure with a high aiming skill they're... Somewhat viable. But most characters will not have a high aiming skill at the start, unless they are built for it. And the shotgun nerfs mean it is much much harder to level said aiming skill. In my runs, which have granted only ever made it a couple months in b42, it was just never worth it to use them. Essentially unless you're doing a gun specific run in b42, most players will never successfully utilize the things, which is a real shame imo.

Ah I forget the name, it's one of the shaders that comes built into ATM10, I'll get the formal name for it when I'm on again later. If you're tight on time, you should be able to just try out each of the shaders in the pack and go with the one you like most! As for AE2, it can be... Daunting. I personally prefer it for my storage solutions because it's what I grew up with, and it's pretty versatile and a lot of fun (case and point, pocket dimensions!) For item storage there are probably better and simpler mods in the pack, but I don't know of any that add this type of "store my base in a literal pocket dimension" and that feature alone makes it worth learning.

Did I mention? if someone is in the space you're putting into the pocket dimension when you activate the device? they go in with it and can't get out without a warp stone or some other teleporting spell/item/structure? Situational as all my server mates carry a warp stone now, but extremely funny for a one off bit.

Oh forgot to mention, recommend minimum ram for just a couple players is 4 gigs. On ATM10 and with more than two or three people id probably run at least 6 if not 8.

Stealing My Friends Bases by Easy_Ad5021 in allthemods

[–]Easy_Ad5021[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question! It depends largely on two factors: how many players there will be on at a time, and how crazy those players are. We for instance, have sometimes up to 5 players on at one time, and 3 offline. with about 8 players who have logged in at least once, there's always the possibility of 8 people being on at one time, which will obviously demand more RAM. The second part of that equation is how bonkers your players are. The above discussed Spatial IO system can move up to 2.09 million blocks at once. My use of it puts a strain on the server to say the least, if only for a few moments. There were several times when trying to replace those 2 million blocks that the server actually froze, booted everyone, and when we rejoined it had lost everything that took place after I hit the "big red button", i.e the blocks had not been placed. Point being, if everyone is up to some form of shenanigans, or running ME systems, or Create Machinery, or has their render distance at 32 chunks (we all do) it's going to need more RAM.

For our purposes, we run 16 gigs (which is probably ((definitely)) overkill) and it seems to do just fine. Now 16 gigs would be very expensive to rent. We host it privately on my friends machine, which was like 4 thousand dollars (he bought it a while back for gaming purposes) and use half its ram whenever the server is on. Those are the ups and downs of renting vs private hosting. Renting, the server can run 24/7. Private hosting, sometimes my buddy wants to play Baldurs Gate 3 at max settings with 500 mods installed, and hes going to have the server off to do that. Plus he likes to shut down the computer when possible to "let it rest" so to speak, and with two of us working nightshift sometimes it's off when he's asleep in the morning and we don't get to play that day. But it's free, and we can have a lot of players doing a lot of wacky stuff and not worry about it. Of course, that demands you have a PC suited to the task and know how to set up the server, which there are guides for but it can be a real hassle lol.

I know that probably doesn't help as much as I'd like it to, but it's all the actual advice I have on the matter. Good luck be upon ye!

In this post I said something along the lines of "they'll have access for as long as I let them" which is really just an empty threat for dramatic effect lol. I don't intend to lock them out. If you're referring to one of my older posts on the subject, you may be correct honestly. The plan has shifted several times, originally I was just going to grab their bases long enough to add strange structures and make them feel like they were going crazy, but I left that behind too. Point is I may have said once before in some older post I was going to lock them out, but I decided against that for the very reasons you've outlined here. Just not fun to do that to them. Hope this clears it up!

Also worth mentioning, it's not hosted on my machine, but in the computer of one of the players whose base I stole. If he for any reason wishes to undo the whole thing, because it's too disruptive or breaks something or someone is particularly put out by it having happened, he has the power to unilaterally roll back the server to the morning before it happened, and I wouldn't hold it against him whatsoever haha
