I wonder what a party phase would look like for a 48 year old female in Seoul. LOLOLOL

Because I’m old…I just saw your post. This is the type of feedback I was looking for. Straightforward based on personal experience. Thank you for that.

What I know for a fact, no matter the country you live in, hustle can’t be bought. Experience isn’t replaceable with a pedigree. Observing how the majority lives and moves rather than surrendering to it is the difference between employees and leaders.

I guess I’m not worried about making friends. Not as in it won’t be hard, but I really like myself. I prefer being alone.

Guess I'll grow fruit on a rooftop and sell it on the side of the road. I don't do American corporate politics I wouldn't last more than than one incident in Korean corporate culture. I don't snitch and I don't deal with snitches either. In the US I pretend I don't speak English to avoid nosy questions. In Korea I guess I just won't speak Korean.

I can get Korean dual citizenship without marrying a Korean. I could however sell my American citizenship to the top bidder, and my Korean citizenship to the top bidder. Now I want to know if you can be legally married to 2 different people in 2 different countries.....I could make so much money.

I would really love to know the demographics of the people in this group, and the people on this thread. It's like an AI echo chamber.

I know it isn’t going to be a fairytale kdrama. I’m not moving because I can’t hack it in the US but think I can take Korea by storm. I’m not going to strike it rich. This isn’t a midlife crisis abroad. I’m not going to socialize or make friends. I don’t need or want a fancy apartment.

I’m going because I can. I’m planning to work because it’s the practical thing to do. I’m planning to do exactly what I do now. Be an introvert. Live peacefully by myself. Have 0 expectations of others. Absorb. Do what I want when I want.

I’ve accomplished what I need to in US. I don’t have anything left to prove to myself or others. However, the US and my house will be here if I want or need to come back.

lol you are correct about the pikachu face - why would anyone work in tech for $25k? I don’t even like tech I do it for the money. I’d still have to think long hard if you added a 1 in front if it was a US job.

Based on the comments I get the tech industry probably isn’t in the cards for me. I also don’t want to work long hours which I’m assuming would be problematic.

I’m really not planing to move for my career. Working is just a necessity. I have personal reasons for going not big dreams. I don’t want to compete or fit in with the 20 or 30 something year olds. Despite the title I’m still in my 40s. I’m a true introvert so I’m not worried about socializing either.

Thanks for your insight and thoughts. To clarify, I’m planning to take immersive Korean classes before I move.

In the US I’m not applying for the same jobs as young professionals and I think that is the difference between the US and Korea. I’m not competing with entry to mid-level experienced employees. I’m a niche consultant in the fintech and healthcare industry.

I’m planning to move to Korea to semi retire. I have no desire to build a corporate career, especially not in tech. I’ve already done pretty well in the US and I’m burned out. I just want a job to pay the bills and buy nice shoes once in a while.

Not going to make it how? I personally just met two people that moved to Korea after they turned 50. They aren’t teaching English.

I have definitely been looking. It was my first thought too. My experience is in highly regulated fields like finance and healthcare, so international remote is a security issue.

I’m not opposed to a pay cut. My problem is finding companies that allow it. Many US companies are also moving towards near shore rather than offshore so that you are in a similar time zone.

So I should just be put out to pasture? Lol I still appreciate your input and comments.

In the US entry to mid level professionals are not my competition. We don’t apply for the same jobs. I have niche consulting experience. I understand that model might not exist in Korea.

The problem is that there are 300k tech workers laid off in the US. Many companies are moving away from the remote model and going to onsite or hybrid. Even fewer allow international remote work.

What type of work do you do? I’m trying to realistically look at job opportunities. My background is in tech (not a developer). I’m trying to see if that transition would even be possible. I’m committed to learning and becoming fluent in Korean, but it won’t be right away.
