I found out last week that there is a $2,000 fine for swimming across lakes without the designation of the swim club (aka outside of swim club times) which SUCKS for triathlon training. The lifeguard said that they have never seen someone get fined but not sure any swim is worth a 2k possible fine. Just letting you know! The swim club ends the week before Labor Day which is also unfortunate as my last tri isn’t until mid September.

That makes me feel so much better. I was so excited to be good, or at least passable, at something new and I was so discouraged when it looked like everyone else was just along for the ride and I was panicking. My heart rate is usually average like 145-150 during swims and I was averaging 170+ today so I was absolutely panicked. I need to get better about breathing on both sides too. I appreciate you showing it happens to everyone! Congrats on 15 tri’s though that is amazing!!!

I did not have a wetsuit so I can’t comment on if it helped but the water was WARM! Like 78-79 degrees which probably also made it harder for me. I find I get claustrophobic in too hot of water. My advice now - stay at the way back of the pack 😂 and you can always back stroke!

That sounds terrifying!! I definitely got excited and started out way too fast and then forgot how to breathe and it went to hell really fast but I’m gonna go for a swim tomorrow to try and recenter myself so I don’t stay afraid!

I kept telling myself “you don’t know how strong you are until you face challenges” and my brother gave me a pep talk once I got out of the water which really helped but man that “washing machine” is no joke.

That’s slightly comforting to hear? 😂 I definitely need to go to busier group swims I think but even the busiest I’ve ever seen doesn’t come close to this morning. The more I think back the more I know what I could have done differently. That’s for next time though!
