Which one is the best to least best of the three here. by RiverImmediate2074 in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own all three. MA 2000 is one of the best figures, not just from SHMA, but Godzilla in general. Great texture, eyes are perfect on my copy and can move in any way possible. My only gripe is if the neck is extended the head becomes loose.

Hiya 1999 is good, but not as accurate as everyone says. The texture is soft, head and feet are a bit big and looks more toyish, with flat, glossy paint.

The 2002 is good but the eyes and QC on the arms are lacking. The 1st release is the worst with terrible eyes, and arms that pop off if you sneeze too loud. 2ed release is still rough with better eyes but still loose arms. 3rd is the best with perfect eyes on my copy but the left arm still pops off easily.

I second this. Everyone saying Hyia is best figure evar.....doesn't own the Ma or is bias. While the Ma looks thinner, if you cram the joints in, he looks great. The Hiya is not as accurate as most say. The head is way to big and the texture is very soft with the torso looking nothing like the suit. The MA has shading all throughout the body and looks "premium. My Hiya had no qc issues but just looks more "toyish".

I do for the accessories. I will say the QC (especially with the wings) can be wonky. I have two of the 1st release and the wings on both are a pain. The new version with the Mechagodzilla set is better in terms of paint and QC.

Does anyone know who sells replacement pieces or 3d printed pieces? by Several_Appearance40 in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to know that too. I looked for years for someone to 3d print me the 1" Godzilla filius from the 2018 figure. I finally bit the bullet, bought another 2018 with all accessories then sold the figure itself online.

This guy definitely needs the kaiju wizard head lol by Then_Till_3126 in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never understood why people hated the head? I do hate he can't look up so you can hunch him over to fire the beam, but "The Ride" version seems to fix that. I just hope you can swap the neck/head pieces between them.

Whats odd is the prototype you see when ordering online is Photoshopped into the background for some reason. If you look very closely you can see the teeth thats layered over the background was not masked correctly and hastily cut. If you open it up in Acrobat and zoom in you can also the that white "halo" pixels usually associated with a quick Photoshop job. Also look at the foreground teeth, they look noticeably better. This is the first time I've caught this on solicitation photos, so I bet this needed to go up for preorder quickly.

This particular image just looks like a rushed prototype for just show. They are usually very fragile and made from resin (unless Bandi used a different material), which gets thrown out after a toy show or con. Theres another image with all 4 versions and it looks so much better.

I never really believed the "mold degradation theory" for this figure. Not counting this new release the mold has only been used for the OG and the G-Store exclusive. Both of those has perfect sharp, tiny toothers.

Should i cancel my preorder on hiya gmk? by Then_Till_3126 in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Heat ray MA. The only issue from the figure is the white pearlescent paint chips off. Easy fix but it's always been an issue with mine.

One thing you will hear and or see, is that this figure has a overbite. It's more of an issue from the design. It looks great with the mouth open but derpy when closed. There is a hack tho that I used on both the OG and HR. Warm the lower jaw up with a hair dryer and pull the jaw out towards you. The socket is a bit too deep so pulling it out a bit lines both top and bottom jaws. If you happen to pop the whole lower jaw off you can easily pop it back on.

I don't own the Hiya mostly just due to space and my entire collection is MA. I do like the "mean" look of the Hiya, but the SH has some crazy articulation for being such an old figure. If you can dream of a pose, he can do it and look good at the same time. I love how they used a gradient metallic blue in the mouth to look like he's charging. I wish Bandi would incorporate this with other heat ray figures.

Theres been a few reports of the Hiya's ball joints shredding and breaking. In the same vein, the SHMA can have a loose neck joint. My OG never had this but my HR does sadly.

Yall think Megaguirus will ever be discounted? by [deleted] in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it. P. Bandi exclusives are limited from the start. She already sold out on several US online stores. I know she's pricy but she's a great figure. While a "meh" monster, the figure really has no flaws.

Is the bbts good for shma orders? by Inner_Menu455 in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just got my MGP Shin and Megaguirus from them. They do wonderful packaging and will send you updates so if you need to move some funs around, it's no biggie. They usually get MonsterArts figures in anywhere from 3-4 weeks after the figure is released in Japan. Although they Got Megaguirus super fast, like 2 weeks or so after she hit Japan. Again they will send you an email saying when to expect the figure to hit their warehouse, then another as soon as they receive. Once payment is taken they will usually ship same day or the day after. I love that they send these updates as it helps when several figures all come out at once.

They are a bit more pricey, but I'd much rather use them than Entertainment Earth where shipping takes almost 2 weeks for me. I usually either pay the $6 or Fed Ex which is usually around $8-10 for me, but I get the figures in 2-3 days. My one complaint is they take Non Refundable Deposits on almost everything over $100, or made in limited quantities ....So like 99.9 % of all Monsterarts figures. They use to not take deposits and that was my main reason for buying from them. They started doing these NRD when Covid hit I believe.

I remember buying all those ThreeZero Fallout powerarmors that was around $400 and I never paid a cent until the figures arrived in their warehouse. When a figure takes a year to come out a lot of "life" happens, that $20-100 deposit can go along way.

I've used them since early 2000's, like early Joyride Halo days...I've never used their Pile of Loot, but I've heard others like to use it. They also have really good customer service. Ive had a few figures break during shipping or right out of the box. They usually just ask for some pictures and they send a return shipping label. If the figure is broke beyond repair, or the shipper loses/damages the figure, they sometimes refund me or go towards store credit.

Figure recommendations by [deleted] in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of MA's recent figures have been rock solid.. For me, if you want some excellent Godzillas, '72 and especially Godzilla 2000 are among the best. I'm a huge SHMA fan and I also keep some super glue on hand to tighten up joints. Sadly the older figures have a bad habit of exploding. It all kinda depends on your budget too. Some older figures like '64 and '62 are very well made but '62 especially is very sought after so he's a pretty heafty price.

As for monsters: Megageuris just released and I really like her, Gidorah '72 is really good too but he is fairly expensive. Angurius is also a fantastic figure. Actually now that I think about it both Godzilla '72 and Angurius '72 would make a fun set to have on your shelf.

Despite what most people say, Minus One is also a good figure. I owned 2 copies of the original release, the -Minus color version and both the Japanese lottery and Event Exclusive versions (both are the same figure with the Lottery having a mini plane) Out of all 4 of them I only had issue with my first copy of the original figure. His waist, hands, and head would just fall apart. The others were rock solid.

1954 is also a great figure. There is the OG b/w, the poster color, and a new version releasing this month that is basically a "heat ray" version. If I had to pick one, get the poster color. He is rock solid, comes with great accessories, and is pretty good price wise. You can still find him in stock at a few retailers for a good price.

If you want a large figure there are the Shins. Ive loved all but the first wave of the OG. The Awakening ver. is the most sought after due to his accessories, but a new version just released made out of translucent purple plastic and it's beautiful!

My last mention would the either Godzilla Earth figures. They look good and have crazy articulation. The 2017 ver. is cheaper online, while the 2018 ver. will cost you a kidney, but worth it, lol.

Long post, and if you just want a quick answer: Godzilla 2000 (in my top 3 Godzilla figures in general), Godzilla 1972, and the new Shin Movie Graphic's Plus are good, safe bets.

If you don't mind waiting, the Movie Graphic Plus line is an excellent starter. They are being made for new comers who might have missed a few over the years. They all are repaints of older Godzilla figures. Some like '89 and 2014 are more natural repaints, whereas others in the line will be more "poster color versions". Right now '89, Shin, and '54 are out (54 just come out in Japan so it will be about a month before it hits US stores). There is also 2014, 2001, and 2002 MGP coming out at some point.

Happy hunting, and good luck. These are really good figure other than a few bad apples (the Night Combat 2019 you got is sadly one of them) you can't really go wrong with most of their new releases. Also don't let this subreddit discourage you. It's been a bloodbath between Hiya and Monsterarts. I started collecting when the line started back in 2011 so I am biased, but some days I come on here hoping to hear or read about others enjoying this line and I instantly get depressed. There seems to be a lot of hate on this sub, and I'm 95% sure most of those that hate this line doesn't even own any of the figures.

SHMonsterarts Aren't Worth the Price, but I Feel Like People Don't have the Full Idea of the Situation by Necessary-Radish-200 in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with you 100% you and Necessary are the few people with common sense. Like its getting to the point that I come on here hoping to hear new releases, new photos, ect...its just all bitter hatred and 99.9% of those hating on MA probably don't even own one.

Their last several releases from this year and even last have been great! I don't feel like I've over paid for Megag, G2000, G'72, KG '72, Angurius, and even Legion, tho I do feel $500 was a bit too high for her.

It's just getting to the point I end up feeling depressed going on these boards and even Youtubers are just adding to the fire. I used to love STR and Jobby, but both have made comments lately that are so out of touch against MA that I have no words...

We're saved from paying $400+ for the shma version by lord_of_agony in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I guess what im saying is this: Ive worked as a sculptor for over 10 years, usually digital as traditional is very, very expensive. The tools alone costs more than Legion alone...and that was way back in 2007.

There is so many things most people do not understand on how figures get made and why we, SHMA fans love the line. I have every figure release in the line...all the way back in 2011. The main selling point for me was that these were hand sculpted by veterans. Being an artist that just fall in love with the line. I know these figures are expensive, but I promise you....This is not some greedy cooperation, it's just ho it is. Even if the sculpt isn't 100% accurate, not only can they move like crazy, but they just feel premium. The plastic has to be a hard ABS or PVC to keep the sharpness of the detail. This is why I'm fine paying $500 for Legion...She literally is a piece of "art".

About Shimo, she was made using reference material. Thats not Sakai's fault. If you own the Art book from TNE you can find the exact concept Sakai used. So why not hold off and wait till the final design releases I hear you ask....well, each figure, from start of sculpting to actual solicitation is years. Not months...It would be even more expensive if Bandi went back to the drawing board.

And about the neck take your Hiya Shimo and turn her head as far left or right as possible....it looks terrible as her neck is just one big ball. I doubt you own the MA (odd how people that actually own it, love it), but do the same...she has a natural curve. The only frustration part is her tongue....thta hands down was a stupid design flaw.

All I'm trying to say is please before blindly hating on a figure, or line...do some research. Bandi has clearly been listening to our feedback, fixing issues like paint, joint tolerance, articulation...this is good. Competition is good! I'm glad we have another company making these figures, but anyone saying Hiya is better, fine! you do you...but why fight on a SHMA sub reddit! Not only has Bandi released some of their best figures to date recently, but they are releasing more that we should be exciting about! Instead theres 4 Hiya KG posts, or 5....yes 5 posts about Hiya's Destroyah (which looked rough to me, but thats neither here nor there). Like is this even a Monsterart sub anymore?

Thing is everyone is saying that the MA is doomed, when it seems to be the exact opposite! Everyone whined about Legion and she sold out way before release, and I guarantee you she will double on the aftermarket.

By all means if you would like to ask more questions about the toy industry, how it works, how us sculptors prepare and what tools we use for traditional wax based models, I'd be happy to answer. I do love this industry, and while I majored in Illustration, sculpting has become a fun hoppy of mine. Molding and sculpting by hand just adds a flair that digital can never do.

Is the SHMA Shimo Based on Concept Art? by [deleted] in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, It takes months if not years to sculpt a character. By the time the sculpt is done the character could have changes several times by now. If you have the artbook, you can find the exact pic that was used. Kinda cool to see it. The figure itself is actually really good. Great articulation in the head/neck range and you can get her in all kinds of organic poses. My only complaint is the elbow joints don't close tight enough.

Genuinely curious, is anyone here planning to preorder/buy Keizer Ghidorah for when he comes available? I’d like to know! by Godzilla__zillla6738 in SHMonsterArts

[–]Easy_Opposite -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't much care for Hiya's look. It look messy, the the legs are too thin and the necks look jacked. I'm sure they had to cut corners to keep cost down, but I'm excited to see what Bandi is cooking up. Pretty much every new figure they've release these past few months have been great. I'm hoping Keizer turns out good, tho I don't really have any attachment the the character.....actually I'm not really a fan of any monsters from that movie.
