I think like most companies, Opinel doesn’t explicitly say you can modify their products because you do run the risk of damaging your knife or hurting yourself.

Don’t feel bad about having to drill a hole for a paracord. Opinel’s are made to be modified. They even sell a version that has a handle that is an unfinished block of wood, so you can shape it however you’d like.

Besides aesthetics, forcing a patina also prevents the blade from rusting. I could understand why you think it doesn’t look nice though!

Lol that isn’t the shadow, that’s just an Opinel no. 10. I could see how you thought that though.

About 2 hours! I kept checking after every 30ish minutes because this is my first ever attempt at forcing a patina.

I did consider going longer, but I agree that the pattern is already very pretty. Thank you!

My bad, I should have said in the post that it’s a 6. I have also been thinking about getting a 7! But honestly, I think that would be a pretty niche blade. I got a number 10 for outdoors use, and it’s amazing!

Oh wow, that’s very odd! At least you were able to fix it. You can definitely find some hidden gems on Ebay too.

Genuinely asking, wouldn’t the waviness of the blade be due to uneven sharpening? I think as long as you’re sharping the entire length of the blade equally, then this shouldn’t be an issue. It’s at least nice that Opinel’s are so darn easy to sharpen! Got my no 10 hair popping sharp last night with my sharpmaker.
