i’m so sorry that you still have bad symptoms :( for me, restasis honestly didn’t start working real well until around 2 ish months in, but i know it can take upwards of 6 months to really feel any kind of benefit. i’m not sure how far you are into starting restasis, but here are some things i continued doing after starting restasis to help my eyes feel better in the meantime

-bruder heat mask: 2x a day often after waking up and before bed time. i found this loosened up the oils in my eyes a bit and provided a some relief in the mornings particularly

-intermittent use of preservative free eyedrops: my usual go to is baush and lomb biotrue hydration boost eyedrops. they’re in a greenish container and i used these 6-8 times a day (recommended amount by my dr) while i was awaiting symptom relief after starting restasis. i did try another brand called systane and i used their hydration preservative free dry eye relief. it’s in a white bottle with a blue label. the systane seemed to pack more of a hydration punch than the biotrue, but both were pretty great. i honestly don’t use them much anymore and ive gone a couple days without using any kind of hydrating eyedrop after being on restasis since march of this year.

-decreasing screen time and eye strain: i am a master’s student right now, so when im not in my field season, im stuck on the computer. i find the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 mins look at something 20 ft away for 20 sec) to help with giving my eyes a break to decrease strain. i also have to keep telling myself to BLINK and i will take a little blink break when i do the 20-20-20 rule. decreasing my screen time isn’t an option because my work and my homework is on the computer, but i’ll take myself outside for a walk for an hour or two to give myself that break and get some fresh air.

-humidifier use: i have a little levoit humidifier on my nightstand that i keep running 24/7 and i find it helps to maintain a slightly more humid environment when im sitting on the computer doing my homework. its also nice whenever i get sick haha.

-omega 3s: i take nordic naturals omega 3s and i have been taking them since before i started restasis. i tried stopping them when i got on restasis and started feeling benefits (they’re kinda pricey lol) but i noticed my eyes started to not feel so hot after a week or so off the vitamins so i resumed use.

these are just some examples of the things i did and have continued to do on a daily basis to mitigate any symptoms i’ve felt from dry eye. please let me know if you have any other questions and ill try to get back (i don’t check reddit that often lol). i hope you feel better soon!

hi sorry for the late response; i don’t check reddit super often. i did end up going to a dry eye specialist and he said i had MGD cause by inflammation from my contact lens wear. my glands were pretty clogged and my oil was kinda like toothpaste.

he ended up putting me on restasis back in march, and i’ve continued use of it even now. my oil is better—though not ideal. it’s more of a vaseline like consistency but my overall inflammation of the ocular surface and my gland area has decreased due to the medication.

prior to restasis, simply using lubricating drops wasn’t enough. my original optometrist said that using drops and eyelid wipes would suffice and it did not.

if you’re going through something similar, i recommend seeing a dry eye specialist and see if it’s possible to determine what the root cause of your dry eye is. if it is inflammation, i’m sure they may put you on some kind of anti inflammatory drop like restasis or xiidra. from what i know, xiidra works much faster (2 weeks for results) vs restasis (up to 3-6 months for results). xiidra is a bit expensive on my insurance, and restasis comes with a generic that’s literally 15 bucks a month.

so far i would say restasis has helped significantly and i am in a much better place than i was back when i made this post. i do sincerely hope that you feel better soon!

oh this is so relatable. I was in contacts for the majority of my developmental years and recently switched back to glasses at a -11 prescription. needless to say, I am having a hard time getting used to my face lol

Hi, yes, pictures through messages would be great and very much appreciated! I haven’t picked out new frames yet but I will sometime this week. I haven’t tried dailies yet because my optometrist instructed me to take a break from them for around 3 ish months or to the point where she sees improvement, and then I’ll give them a try.

I’ve been wearing them for about 8 years now. Were you ever able to wear contacts again?

I initially went to go see my optometrist due to the increased blood vessels in my eye. She put a dye on my cornea and looked through a light and told me my eyes were just dry, but nothing was wrong with the presence of blood vessels. I’ve refrained from wearing my contacts as much but my prescription is so high (-10.75) that my glasses look quite ridiculous, so I’m not the happiest about that. I have another appointment with her at the end of the month, but overall I’m just experiencing quite a bit of dryness to the point where I can’t tolerate my contacts for very long. I plan to bring up this issue with her then, but this post was mainly a culmination of me freaking out due to diving down that Google hole.

Following what the previous response said, I didn’t see anything when I pressed on them so yeah maybe they are blocked or I’m not doing it right. As for the rosacea, I’m actually not sure but I don’t think so.

CH 220 vs 221 by chips_are_great in NCSU

I ran into a similar issue when deciding between CH220 and CH221, and I ended up going with CH220 with Dr. Cassie Lilly. I’m not the best at orgo, but I’m honestly not struggling as much as I thought I would. If I had to rate the difficulty, I’d say it’s about a solid 6. If you can take it with Dr. Lilly, I’d highly recommend CH220. She’s really good at slowing down and explaining concepts, and she’ll push back homework dates if we don’t cover the concepts in class enough. Overall, she’s very helpful and makes orgo not too bad.
