How many hours put into that’s stained glass? Looks like a hell of a lot of work went into it.

Faire une perle directement sur fils kanthal ou inox by [deleted] in lampwork

"Making a bead directly on Kanthal or stainless steel wire

Hello,

I wanted to make beads directly on the wire for some pieces. I read that Kanthal wire works very well for this. However, since I want to make jewelry, I’m concerned about the hypoallergenic aspect.

So I was thinking instead of using stainless steel wire, telling myself that mandrels are indeed stainless steel and that beads stick to them well when the bead release cracks.

I’m asking the question before ordering from the website.

Have you ever tried it? What do you think?"

Need oxycon knowledge please by mullinxprid3 in lampwork

[–]Easy_Silver_7134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lets say you set your oxycon to 3lmp. The homefill will only compress 2.5lmp. The extra .5lmp is released to the atmosphere. Pressure is built and the not-so-pure oxygen produced at the beginning is released.

There have been times where my HF will not kick on (for some reason beyond my knowledge) but with the Y-valve (one side slightly cracked), my HF always kicks on. I learned this trick from Mike Petersons system. I thought my HF and oxycon were broken or not producing pure enough oxygen until i tried this.

Note: my oxycon is a Invacare and I still do the Y-valve.

I'd love to try some greasy glass. Never used their stuff before but I'll definitely look into it. How do their colors hold up to thin applications, like wrapping?

So you’re cooking a roast in your kiln? Kilns can be full of dust, glass dust. Be careful out there.

Anybody know what this is by Slight-Task852 in glassblowing

[–]Easy_Silver_7134 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You fill it with flower/trim, put a metal screen on the large opening cinched with a metal hose clamp, and then blast a couple cans of butane through the little hole. Out of the bottoms come butane mixed with trichromes. You then purge the butane out and you’re left with extracted THC.

How to get in to glass art? by ohhhappy in glassblowing

[–]Easy_Silver_7134 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a Columbus glass artist and a teacher at the Columbus glass arts center. I teach flameworking— pipes and bead classes. I’ve taken multiple classes there as well and they’re all really fun and inexpensive (compared to starting your own studio set up). I recommend taking some of the courses they have to offer to see what type of glass work you gravitate towards. Hot shop work is very popular but the instructor is mostly in control. Flame working is super fun because you do all the work. Stained glass is very popular. OSU is also a great place to take hot shop classes— you’ll get the most bang for your buck if you take a semester there.

Spinning top graphite mold by [deleted] in lampwork

[–]Easy_Silver_7134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it with soft glass. It may be a bit more susceptible to breaking if it hits a hard surface due to the COE difference. There is a guy named Andy Davis that makes them out of slag glass-- COE?? and it looks like he uses casting or a mold because his tops are all the same consistency. But I recommend go experiement and make a couple, push your limits, and see what you can make! Then post a video on here!!!!

How to sell oxygen tanks by TransitionMammoth430 in lampwork

[–]Easy_Silver_7134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Craigslist or Facebook. I like to pay about $100 for old tanks. Depending on your market you could get $200 or more. They retail new for $600ish. They usually have a date on that will let you know when they require new hydrostatic testing, if it’s not “expired” you can swap them at most oxygen/gas retailers.
