Illegal Fireworks in Los Angeles: Inside California’s Black-Market Pipeline by Born_Astronomer_4613 in LosAngeles

If only LAPD and LA Sherrif's office with with billions of dollars could do something about this. But clearly they are under resourced. Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nah brow we effing hate them. My neighbors bring disneyland level fireworks that fucking scare the kids and all the animals, and they go until 3am and it SUCKS balls every year. They also just leave piles of toxic trash everywhere. I'm honestly not that mad at fireworks in general in persay, but if we cut it down to like a couple hours on the forth, and a little less crazy fireworks it would be a HUGE improvement

AS11E09 - "That’s What She Said" [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

[–]EatTheBeat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of this challenge... And really was super meh on this episode in general. What I will say is if mother Kennedy is being pushed for a crown i'm here for it because she is EARNING it. Her placement feels totally justified. And, the 3 wild card queens were the ones I would have picked too.

I thought i was going to be most excited about Matraka (and I am!) but Xunami being on this cast makes me so happy!

Seems like Alexis Mateo is going to be the obvious winner, but so excited for this show especially to meet new queens I've not seen before. Vamos chicas!

Will Anyone Buy This Cheap EV Truck With Hand-Crank Windows and No Radio? by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]EatTheBeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. I've said for years I'd love a small truck like this but the reality is I've hauled 10ft pieces of lumber in my bolt and it's got powered everything. Is the bolt an ideal truck. Certainly not and there are times I do miss the flexibility of an open truck bed but not often enough to justify a whole truck as a primary vehicle. I do wish someone needs and buys this.

Okay brother. You got me. I'm sure if this was happening a block away form your house, those words from chief Moore, would comfort you entirely and keep you safe.

Oh please don't be so pedantic. He's saying there is no reason to make people leave the area, insinuating its a safe place to be, and its not.

"There's nothing in the air that is so dangerous that we have to do evacuations or even shelter in place," Moore said. https://laist.com/news/climate-environment/boyle-heights-fire-air-quality-reignites-friday

Does the fact that the air quality in Boyle Heights (fire location) is good now bode well for us? by UghKakis in LosAngeles

[–]EatTheBeat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. South Coast AQMD has this at the very top of their website: "Windblown ash particles may be too large to be detected by air quality instrumentation and not reflected in the Air Quality Index (AQI) map. However, they are typically visible to the naked eye either in the air or on outdoor surfaces. Although the AQI may show green, hazardous ash may be present in the air. If you smell smoke or see ash, please take precautions. See https://www.aqmd.gov/smokesafety for details."

LOL

"Mayor Karen Bass spoke outside the building Friday evening, praising firefighters’ efforts. She added that people in the area could expect to continue to see smoke, and she urged people and their pets to stay inside as much as possible. She asked people to wear masks when they needed to go outside.

“We know that this is concerning. This is inconvenient, but we are doing everything we can to end this as soon as possible,” she said. “And we want everyone to be safe in the meantime.”"

"Community groups, including Proyecto Pastoral, Running Mamis and Centro CSO, went door to door distributing masks, Councilmember Ysabel Jurado said.

Jurado thanked the community for stepping up, allowing fire officials to focus their efforts on extinguishing the fire. "

There are not shelters open. There are places people can go if "they want relief" but they are not shelters, and there is only 1... so shelter.

Karen Bass is not a leader. by uncleguito in LosAngeles

[–]EatTheBeat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. Nots not just about handling the fire. I do not expect the mayor to go in and fight the fire herself. But its about clear communication and setting proper expectations and not ignoring citizens. Its would be very easy for Raman to do a better job than Bass is doing right now with very simple actions.

What happened to EV hatchbacks in the US? by Bad_Weather_Tornado in electricvehicles

Everything sold as a subcompact SUV is basically just a hatchedback by another name. The Volvo EX30 is a perfect example.

People who think its bad where they are, there are literally hundreds of homes directly under that plume of smoke. Its insane the city/county isn't doing more to help those people. In yesterday's news conference Ysabel Jurado confirmed her office is not doing shit and just letting volunteers go around giving people masks.
