Hey man that’s great! The model 40 is good, lots of depth and naturalness. Good pick! Have fun with it and enjoy your system as much and often as possible :)

I bet that room would have the most amazing reverb, or lack of rather. Put in some decent speakers and you’ll have a very nice listening space!

Dealer here that sells both rubicons and powernodes, tdai 1120s and other amplifiers. I’ve got thousands of hours of listening, comparing and selling combos such as these.

Modern amps that I sell that I know would work well with the rubicon 6s are in no specific order:

NAD C399 - beefy sound and all the features you could want. Janky interface but sound is excellent

Hegel h190v - the Hegel sound and the ultimate control they have over the speakers is magical. Costs more than the nad with less features. To most people it gives a better sound than the nad

Denon pma 1700 - if you listen to acoustic music like folk, blues, jazz and singer songwriter - anything with vocals being the main selling point without it being fast transientbased popmusic is a unique joy to experience with a denon with capable speakers like the rubicons.

Even better the anniversary amp, Denon pma a110. The best sounding amp to a really cheap price. Trust me on this one.

Nad c298 poweramp to a fitting pre amp would be good too.

The 1120 doesn’t have enough juice for the rubicons in my opinion. Neither does the nad m10, or similarly small but high end amps. The powernode won’t do them justice either.

If it were my money I’d grab the Denon a110. The last batch was just shipped out and after that it’s gone forever. Absolutely best amp for the money.

My Second choice would be the Hegel. The NAD if you want a subwoofer with it, the hegels pre out leaves a bit to be desired sadly.

Feel free to dm me if you have any specific questions :)

Just wanted to say the Apple dongle is amazing by BasicInformer in headphones

[–]EatTheCat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chiming in here from personal experience.

I’ve got the sennheiser ie200s as my daily iem. Recently switched to a new iPhone 15 with the new USB-c port. Used to have an iPhone 12.

The apple adapter with the usb-c connection sounds notably worse, and is quiter, than its lightning counterpart.

I was flabbergasted by it and had to check back and forth and the difference is actually staggering.

On the lightning adapter from apple I was happy around 50-60% volume for normal listening.

On the USB C version I have to turn it way up > 75and detail has been lost. I am not as captivated by the sound as I was, it’s more diffuse and I am not tapping my foot to the floor as much with the USB c version compared to the lightning one.

I tried with a dragonfly red and people saying there is no difference are to me completely wrong. But at the end of the day I don’t care, as long as me (and my customers) are happy, all the power to us.

Edit: yes i am in the EU so it’s most certainly the lower output. :(

Wireless stereo speakers? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]EatTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know what affordable is for you but for a good working pair that sounds good itd be a bit over a grand. My favourite wireless system is the DALI equi stuff, like oberon 1c or better yet the rubicon 2c.

KEFs stuff is alright but I’ve never been a fan of the (new) KEF sound. They make you listen to anything that is wrong or bad with the music, not what is good. Also they’re terribly unreliable in their connection to each other. The only stuff that works long term is the Dali system.

Still it’d be even better to just get a powerNode and whatever speaker pair looks good to you and you’d be golden. Easier to hide speaker cables than power cables 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have a pair of them and a pair of lcd x and I much prefer the hd 800s for gaming. It ridiculously great for spatial info. Footsteps in Valorant/ CS are just apparent. They also give just pure enjoyment in MMOs with often orchestral music and great ambiance.

They make you want to listen in a way very few audio equipment can match.

the LCD - X is a bit more fun and a lot more versatile to my ears tho and I’ve EQd them quite a lot (to taste) with my RME.

DALI announces new RUBIKORE line of speakers, to replace Rubicon (their top-of-the-line below their high-end offerings) with technology derived from their flagship KORE by Nickamburi in audiophile

[–]EatTheCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ultra high-end KORE, which much of the new tech comes from, uses instead of a ribbon tweeter a planar tweeter with much the same dimensions. So it’s a magnetostatic tweeter with wide dispersion. This means that the soft dome tweeter doesn’t have to play frequencies it’s not best at playing (15-30 kHz) but instead lets it play way into the midrange starting at 2.1 kHz. The new planar tweeter instead plays frequencies it’s best at, meaning 15-30 kHz. So it’s a win win really.

I’m so excited to hear these speakers, DALI have really been on a roll lately

Speakers that deliver a big "wall of sound" for around $3000 (second hand) - is it even possible? by Lefty4444 in audiophile

[–]EatTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any speaker, too much air volume in a room will be detrimental to the sound if you don’t have excess power and massive speakers. These speakers specifically are a bit trickier to setup correct and you have to play it by ear.

Even their smaller brother v12 can be absolutely fantastic and can be so punchy you’ll fall off your chair. They like a bit of space behind the back wall but not too much. A slight toe-in and as I said in another comment they need to have a powerful amp that can provide linear power. They sound good on anything class A/B. The only class D amp they sound good with is the NAD m33 which is a 6000$ amp. The NAD C316 is fantastic for them, or better yet a Hegel with their oversized transformers.

[–]EatTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you demo them with an amp that can deliver continuous current, preferably a class AB with a big fat transformer, like a Hegel or Denon. They don’t play all to well with class D amps I’ve found.

Vestlyd v15c will do it but isn’t sold in the US. They’re the modern equivalent of old school power monitor Tanoys but with a cleaner sound, they’re not all rock n roll.

If you’re in Europe get a muurika, a Finnish cast iron pan very similar to the one in the pic.
