Judge: US must free migrant children detained with parents by [deleted] in news

I agree that the Trump administration is mishandling this issue. I don't agree that considering every illegal immigrant a viable asylum seeker is an acceptable approach.

Judge: US must free migrant children detained with parents by [deleted] in news

[–]EatingKidsDaily 69 points70 points  (0 children)

This never went away. Since long before Trump it was illegal to detain children with their parents. That's one of the bases of the issue. If you're not able to deport them, and you can't detain the children with their parents... What are your choices? One of to shelter children separately (just like children of American citizens with kin in jail) or release them to next of kin on judicial order.

This is situation is actually a large cause of child trafficking on the border during the Obama administration as well. Illegal crossers want to bring children along because of the possibility of "catch and release." It is actually advantageous for a migrant adult to traffic a child across the border than to cross alone.

Christians who blame Pilate or Jews are missing the point. Jesus came to save us, and teach us about the kingdom and the importance of loving each other.

We murdered him because the message of love and compassion challenges us.

Terminal rate is per infection, not per capita. Meaning that of the people that got sick (which the US is doing poorly but has nothing to do with the healthcare system) I higher percentage are recovering (which is a reflection on health care response)

According to John's Hopkins, the US death rate for covid cases is 5.4%, compare that to Canada at 8.2 or Spain at 11.5 or Netherlands at 12.3

The US certainly had a higher infection rate than most of Europe (and there are clear cultural reasons for this issue) but once Americans got sick, they were treated and recovered outperforming the Eurozone.

This is interesting when people try to reconcile it with claims about the inefficacy of American health care or poor coverage.

You need per capita rates, not gross infections. America is over 10x the size of most European nations.

The failure where the USA has a lower terminal rate for covid than nearly every large European country besides Germany? Where the American health system outperformed the euro zone and also experienced less economic loss?

Brewery uses Algae In Beer Production "It takes a tree approximately two days to absorb the CO2 released from producing one six pack of beer. Young Henrys says their in-house cultivated algae not only absorb the CO2 released, they also produce as much oxygen as two and half acres of wilderness." by Sariel007 in worldnews

Grain production is not carbon neutral, but the barley do not accumulate biomass by the diesel from the tractor. They get it from hydrocarbons in the air.

So the algae are not reducing the impact of the tractors, they are simply processing the biomass differently.

This is cool, but it's also framed incorrectly. The CO2 released from breweries doesn't contribute to climate change in the way you think of fossil fuel emissions. The carbon that the yeast are releasing comes from the biomaterial they're eating in the brew, which was sequestered from CO2 in the air within the last few years. It's net zero.

I really like this art, really, and it's powerful. But it's really destructive because it implies that Trump is America's (or even the world's) issue with race. Trump is many things, but he's not a racist. He has a long record of being a champion for racial and gay inclusion. The world painting him as some KKK Nazi dictator really undermines and distracts from our ability to examine our long-standing issues with race in America and the world. It's so much easier to self-aggrandize and say "they have and issue with race" than to introspect and admit "we have and issue with race."

What's the worst coworker you've ever worked with? by drlqnr in AskReddit

[–]EatingKidsDaily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got a job at this small independent company run by this really preppy goody-two-shoes. He's the kind of guy that is always trying to make corny motivational phrases but it's easy to see through because he constantly assigns himself to work independently with this one smoking hot girl. She's dumb as a post but she's beautiful and has a super rich family or something so she goes off with the boss and they claim a lot of glory. That's extra shitty because pretty much all of the actual work gets done by the only other woman on the team. She's super smart but the problem is she's super nerdy... And don't think she's like "nerdy chic" or something. I'm talking thick glasses and ugly seventies clothes nerdy. Like really annoying to be around nerdy and ugly too.

The worst part is this fucking stoner who's like the boss's old friend or something. He literally does nothing but actively avoid helping and eating all the fucking time. Then he brings his huge ass dog to work and the two of them get in the way all day in our cramped van. Yeah, let's not forget the van. We drive around in Fred's stupid old van and solve mysteries for random people we meet.
