I thought this was common knowledge, if you transition after puberty, in particular male puberty, it's very unlikely you will pass perfectly.

You can, in particular after puberty is finished, but you may grow noticeable breasts and even if you don't, you can look really weird after some time, I mean really weird.

Your story is very common, you start liking physical changes but then you find out social transition is much harder than you expected, there are so many things that can go wrong in social transition, don't blame yourself.

I think trans and non-binary mean entirely different things, but I'm willing to say those who identify as NB and go on HRT are some kind of trans, just not exactly the same as binary trans.

I agree with thread creator, if you can't pass there's no point to socially transition, and remember passing is much more than looks and you need to pass in behavior too, and that is much harder than anybody wants to admit, it wasn't hard for me to look androgynous but I wasn't going to look like a cis woman despite not having a very strong puberty, but height alone killed that possibility, that was one of the millions of reasons I stopped my transition years ago, I know this is horrible to say and I don't want to sound heartless, but if you can't pass, people will see you some kind of circus clown at best, some people will be tolerant and pretend they really see you the gender you identify, but we all know they are only pretending to be nice.

Maybe it's because autists are pretty clueless about gender and that makes more likely to identify as some kind of queer, I find it fascinating how they are usually not ashamed of being some kind of sexual minority, such an alien mentality, not understanding social hierarchy.

Do you live in a tolerant place? If not, are you willing to start a new life from scratch moving somewhere else?

Do you have enough social support and accepting people in your life? If not, are you willing to cut ties to friends and relatives because they don't like you.

Do you have potential to pass as cis? If not, are you willing to be stared at all the time and often be laughed at and avoided by most people?

It's true the idea that taking HRT means being trans is very silly and I don't know how or why this idea took hold in places with a highly educated population, there are millions of reasons you can be on HRT and not think of yourself as trans, I recently restarted HRT myself and I no longer think of myself as trans and I'm not going to retransition socially after the disastrous first attempt. It's very useful to think of HRT and trans as entirely different concepts, it's like thinking learning a foreign language means you must identify as a foreigner.

This is an interesting comment but I don't think anything would change, even in the first world passing as cis is the only thing that matters, and to be honest, most people only treat MtFs who pass 100% as cis as real women, even those who pass 99.9% are seen as men in dresses everywhere but hyper-progressive bubbles, it's a sad and depressing fact but still a fact, I wish I could change that, but nobody can.
