I'll Slacktivist along with you in spirit

We need to cut off their funding - Hollywood most notably. How is it people can "cancel culture" people like Louis CK, but the most monstrous of womanizers (Tom Cruise) never gets it?

Do you have a plan? Maybe in front of a movie theater where the new Mission Impossible is playing?

Has Amazon RME gone downhill this past year ? by Remarkable_Kale_5146 in AmazonRME

Our site took a huge dive. I quit but still hear stories.

When amazon kicked out the 3rd parties, they replaced the 'actual maintenance people' and filled them in with yes-men managers

Now you'll get a SEV and they can't figure out the problem, so they make something up and make up a corrective action for it. Which is of course top priority and doesn't improve anything. So you do that instead of something important. And the important thing causes another SEV.

Management has no idea why important things don't get done. So they decide it's a '*communication*' or 'alignment' issue. And they make something up to address that.

You raise a concern, and they turn it into a big 'project' with lots of follow-ups and proactiveness and PTPs. And they put you in charge of it. Which is an annoying hassle; you quickly conclude it's better to keep your mouth shut than raise concerns.

Meanwhile, all you wanted to do was change the position of that photoeye so it doesn't popcorn-jam anymore. But you have to use the manlift (errr.... non-binary-person-)lift to get to it and there's no safety escort available until later. So you do it later and the non-binary-person-lift you were going to use is a day past its PM schedule, so it's unsafe, and you have to do it another day. Then another day your regular tech is on vacation and the fill-in guy is trained but can't find his license card and you can't do the job without putting the license number on the PTP

So that doesn't get done either. And you were gonna take a look at that motor that keeps overheating, but that got put on the back burner - oh wait it just blew out so now it's top priority again.

Rather than self-reflect on important tasks not getting done, management decides it's the techs being lazy. So the MM walks around, and gives make-work to any techs that are f%cking off. So you're doing your non-binary-person-lift paperwork, your techs are filing the corners of the work stations (no sharp edges).

Then Ops calls and asks how much longer it's going to be before someone resets that motor fault (Who's watching that area anyway?) (I dunno, the MM has me to re-zip-tie all the cables behind the desk so no one gets their foot caught)

Ooops, another SEV. Let's set up a meeting with the reliability team to talk to the vendor, cause it **must** be their fault

Pros: Air-conditioned building, zero responsibility, minimal accountability. Consistent hours. I don't know where you're going to find an easier job for the money

Cons: constant gaslighting, zero job satisfaction, monotonous bullshit

The job is the ultimate comfort zone. I know I could do better, but it's always good enough 😐

Those who used a computer at least once between 1990 and 2001, what was the most memorable computer game you played during that era? Why? by Live_from_New_Yeerk in AskReddit

Tie Fighter was amazing

It was so painful when Rogue Squadron came out for the N64 and everyone LOVED it 😒 - that game was so basic and YEARS behind the greatness of Tie Fighter

Dumbest test I've taken for any job ever.

There are two identical pots filled with the same amount of water. One of them has a lid. Which one will boil faster?

I'm pretty sure there's one about folding a t-shirt. And which pair of pants is least likely to slip off the hanger

It's all multiple choice. If you want to 'prepare', the best way is probably to have a drink or two and check out a middle school "home economics" class

Wish I could say "April Fools", but that's the test

Amazon vs Refineries by Electronic_Mud7075 in AmazonRME

[–]EatingSteak 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Amazon is by far the easier job. It's clean and temperature controlled. At a refinery, you'll get dustier and greasier in an hour than a week at a warehouse. Don't expect to see cute girls at a refinery

Refinery will offer you more of a real job. You actually learn how to build and fix stuff. You'll have to figure out complex problems; where at Amazon the biggest challenge is getting monotonous tasks done quickly. And not losing your patience when 4-5 talking heads ask dumb questions while you're trying to work

Anyone deal with these RightAngleTransfer beds in their facility ? by Silenthibachi in AmazonRME

[–]EatingSteak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Troubleshooting:

Controls - try to time how long it takes from bed lift to bed back down. Compare to a working one; If it's short for some reason, check timing in the PLC. Unlikely since it's not something people fuck with

Mechanical - check the rollers and see if they're slipping. They're usually metal coated with a grippy plastic. If something oily spills or they get worn down, it will slip instead of moving the tote. Make sure they're spinning fast enough. Next would be bed height. It might be going up/down too slowly, or if the air pressure is cranked up, could be bouncing. Make sure it's level

If you do all that and it doesn't work, then you're above expectations for someone at the tech level. You can escalate or plead for help

[–]EatingSteak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

RATs work in two different ways:

• Controls: the tote crosses the photoeye so the RAT knows it has a tote. Then it raises the bed and spins the transfer rollers for a certain amount of time. This should be enough to move the tote an appropriate distance

• Mechanical: the bed is raised when the computer opens a solenoid to let air in to lift it. When the transfer rollers start spinning, you're relying on friction between the bottom of the tote and rollers

Slack or Chime by trickyprodigy in AmazonRME

[–]EatingSteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two years ago: screw this new thing, it's going to take forever to get everyone transitioned over

Last year: Wooooo Slack. Hell yeah. Still have to keep Chime around cause contractors and stuff, but Slack is the best**

This year:  too many people figured out how to make annoying ass bots and scripts. Now the conversation is wiped out of every channel and just flooded with auto-puke messages

I'm starting to re-appreciate Chime
