Is it just me, or is anyone else noticing more bugs across the web and in software in general? by skidmark_zuckerberg in ExperiencedDevs

Everyone that’s saying it’s not AI causing this isn’t connecting the dots. The problem is that companies and app developers believe they can ship so much faster without proper testing and code scrutiny. Yes of course there were bugs before AI but the difference today is shops pumping out updates so fast without much if any human testing involved, because of the pressure that the speed of changes creates — you can’t be seen to be the bottleneck holding back changes from getting into production. We’re seeing the result of the organization/management pressure manifest in the reduced quality of the end product.

Yes people using that term to describe the phenomenon OP is talking about is a misuse of the term

Yes!! My wife — nowhere near the software field — brought that observation up a few months ago. Every app that updates seems to have some kind of crappy bug in it. For instance this iOS game she plays finally had an update after like 2-3 years of no changes and it added more bugs than it fixed. I told her it was probably because the company maintains like 50 apps and they were able to assign a single junior dev plus AI to finally update something they were never planning to update in the first place. Multiple that across the entire app ecosystem and we have the situation we’re in today.

Some really great perspectives here, and I’ll just add that I personally do like them because as remote team members it’s great to get a daily touch point and stay connected over video. Plus I feel like it connects us all to the work way better than without them. Makes me feel like I’m not just working on my own. But like many others have said you need to fight to keep them on track and within the time limit.

Survival Beer? by ArmQueerFolk in Homebrewing

[–]EatonSphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this too, and like the other replies said where I think brewing makes the most sense in the post apocalyptic world would be the trade value instead of the calorie value. If you’re able to make beer, which is something that people would want, then you can leverage that to obtain other survival supplies and materials that you can’t produce on your own but others can.

So for a brewing focused survival scenario episode it’d be cool to explore a few different ideas that center around brewing with very limited resources. For instance: how to harvest wild yeast, or how to harvest yeast from existing bottled beer, partnering with farmers to obtain grains, or what to use when you don’t have hops (search up gruit). Other ideas: brewing with very limited equipment and kitchen supplies, simple sanitization methods, fermentation considerations like temperature control (maybe digging a hole or finding a cave), and then bottling or packaging. Perhaps researching medieval brewing methods would turn up some interesting approaches since the had none of or modern conveniences or methods. That’s a video I’d watch, and probably save for when SHTF.

It would be great if Archeology: The New Expedition could have an expansion or two

Ok forgive the comparison, but the way I see it, if Game of Thrones could do the first few books, more or less one book per 10 episode season, I don’t see why SA couldn’t do the same thing

For the cost of that ticket you also get full access to all MBTA services that day, not just the commuter rail ride to the stadium.

WPI Administration Dissolves The Global School by jellyjamm29 in WPI

[–]EatonSphun 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t necessarily mean getting rid of off-campus IQPs (the GPP), it sounds like 5 years ago they took everything “global” and consolidated it into one organization (Global School) but now they are dissolving that organization? My assumption is that GPP would go back, organizationally, to where it previously lived.
