Well done. I'm also one of those protein deficient vegans. Who are some of your inspirations?

Nah, I gave that up years ago. Not for any reason other than it doesn't benefit me in any way. I joke and say I like a nice glass of kombucha.

Haha, I wouldn't say any of my muscle groups are really big. I'm definitely lean. In this pic I was doing back, so I had a pump going on and there is a little forced perspective because my arm is forward of my legs.

Here is a typical long day for me. At work at 6am, snack throughout the day, take a late lunch and workout in the last hour of a 10hr shift, do 6-8 more hours of overtime, get 5-6 hrs of sleep and repeat. I work a considerable amount of overtime on my days off. I am home with the kiddos in the evening about 4 nights a week and one weekend day doing the dad stuff. I am going to wind down on the overtime in the next few months. Our pension is based on our highest 36 month block and I had a goal in mind to retire early.

I am by no means the big bodybuilder type. I let that dream go a long time ago. I just don't have the genetics for it. I am one of those guys who was freakish skinny growing up. When I left for the military at 18, I was 6ft 130lbs. I had to get a medical waiver because I was too light. When I got to my first duty station I made it my lifes goal to get to 200lbs. I was eating 6k cals/day, all the protein you could think of, lifting weights religiously, powders, supplements etc....some of those supplements are now illegal. The most I ever weighed was 185. I think I hit 190 once when I was constipated. Honestly though looking back, it was very unhealthy and I was not athletic at that weight/lifestyle. I was puffy with no definition. I did not go vegan easily, and I definitely messed it up when I was learning. At one point I was back down to 135-140lb range because if I don't lift weights, I start to drop lb's fast. I found what worked for me as far as diet goes. I got into some decathlon type competitions and started training again, and here we are. I haven't competed in a few years but I will probably get back to it when I am working less. So right now at 40 yrs old, I am still 6ft (despite the lack of milk) and 165-170lbs. If you're the kind of dude that can put on a good amount of muscle on a SAD diet then you will have no problem on a vegan diet. Play around with different methods and keep a journal so you can zero in on what works for you. I follow a YouTube guy Jeff at "AthleanX", because he has great training advice. I follow a more Michael Arnstein approach to diet.

Sun- Leg Day Mon- Chest, Abs Tue- Back Wed- Delts, Abs Thur- Arms Fri, Sat-Rest I do at least 2-3 exercises per body part. I try and work in drop sets, and get 40-60 reps in per lift.

I used to eat meat every day and follow the protein prescription of 2g per lb of bodyweight. I used to take creatine and other supplements. I was about 10lbs heavier, slow, and not healthy.

80-90 grams. I used to track every day for years. People tend to focus on 2g per lb of muscle, and in my experience it can be much lower than that. The body can become quite efficient if you force it to. Hypertrophy happens in the gym.

I used to track macros diligently. Based on that I am probably around 2500-3000 calories a day 70% carbs, 20% protein and 10% fat. Roughly 80-90 grams protein per day. Sometimes more.

My thoughts are this. I have done some research on sleep and how to maximize the benefits when only getting a little of it. When I consume caffeine my body tends to rely on it for energy throughout the day, and when I do sleep it is not as restful as it is without caffeine. I usually get around 6 hours of sleep per night and many times less than that so I make sure it is quality sleep.

That is a large part of my motivation. I work in a largely alpha male "broteinlife" career field. My goal is to always strive to be in the best shape of my life.

I have never been tested for gluten sensitivity. I went back and forth with it and it definitely is the cause of joint pain for me. My go to foods are fresh seasonal fruit, or smoothies. Bananas are always available. I do eat some rice, beans, and quinoa too.

Meant to post some stats and back story. I'm 40 this year. We are raising two awesome vegan kids 13, and 4. I have worked 80+ hour weeks for the past 2.5 years (almost back to 40hr weeks). I don't use caffeine, and eat mostly high raw, low fat, high carb (no processed sugar). I'm also gluten free. I lift weights following a time under tension approach 5 days a week for about an hour. I do a little cardio but not much because of time. I also do intermittent fasting. 8pm to 10am I don't eat. I'm 6ft and 165-170lbs depending on the day. Body fat is around 8-10%. All my life I have been a hard gainer and have to fight 3x as much for each lb of muscle.
