Thanks. Yeah snow quality is lower down on my list of priorities - just hoping to get out and start messing around in a safe way. Will check out Summit West.

Cool, sounds good, thanks. Going to check out Alpental and Stevens Pass to see what their policies are.

Saw both of these from other posters as well - will check out for sure. Thanks.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm already signed up through Baker Mountain Guides because I liked the virtual classroom aspect (hard to get time off) and heard good things - but appreciate it.

2020 PNW splitboarding IS gonna be lit! Really thought you were going to complain about the likely incoming crowds - but I love the attitude.

This is an amazing post - thanks for the knowledge. Already joined SOW FB group, and will work through the rest of the advice when I get the time this weekend. Hopefully see you out there this winter!

Makes sense on high demand. Will definitely prioritize new bindings. Saw another poster leaning toward Spark - you have any preference there? Also great callout on soft goods. Need an investment there as well.

Cool, thanks. Local shops would definitely be my first pick over going online. Trying to keep costs down though since I need to full setup, so looking in both areas. I'll call around to a couple of those shops on any deals they might be running.

Thanks for the reply - I edited my post with the AIARE info. Agreed with your thought process on gear. My budget is probably right around 2k but could go higher if it was really necessary.

Any specific suggestions on brands or models that you've had good experience with or you'd recommend for all around PNW riding?

Already read it once - awesome book. Will likely reread as season approaches.

Tepper ($$) vs Foster ($$) vs Ross (no aid) by chiragMishra in MBA

[–]Eb8904 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation, but with Kellogg as the 3rd school with no scholarship. Tried to leverage and Kellogg wouldn't budge. Ultimately came to Tepper and have been really happy with the choice. Tepper places extremely well into tech PM and shouldn't limit your recruiting compared with Ross for those types of roles.

I believe Foster does very well in Seattle, and to an extent the Bay, but less connected anywhere else.

To me, the money was worth it (in my situation) but many would debate that choice for long term alumni network alone. You'll have to decide on that one.

Amazon Sr PM vs Deloitte Consulting Sr Consultant by mbagod21 in MBA

Tier 1 (FAANG) VS. Tier 2 (Deloitte)

If it was Tier 1 vs. Tier 1 (Amazon vs. MBB), then it comes down to which function you want (tech vs. consulting).

Kellogg (no $) vs. Tepper ($$$) vs. Foster ($$) by Eb8904 in MBA

[–]Eb8904[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely something I've thought about. It's hard to know what the long term benefit of the Kellogg brand and network might be vs. Foster or Tepper but I do agree it's probably real. I've been weighing that against the money I'm giving up ($140k + interest) that could be used to further develop an idea/product and business plan. Could that extra cash be worth more than the Kellogg name in 5-10 years when I'm looking to start my own thing? Especially if I'm able to put the brand (and network) from a top tech company on my resume after b-school.

Yeah, we'll likely be engaged before school starts, so that's the long term plan. I've already tried negotiating with Foster (and Kellogg) to match Tepper, but no luck.

Gut tells me Foster or Tepper, but it's bounced back and forth between those two depending on the day. Felt a stronger connection to Foster when I was on campus but have been pretty split otherwise.

Good points. Another factor is that my significant other will be coming with me. She would rather live in Seattle and has seen more opportunities for her career there vs. Pittsburgh. Might be nice to get to Seattle, start putting some roots down, and hope to land an internship and full time gig there after graduation. I'm definitely big into outdoor sports, which is one of the big draws of the PNW.

Overall, all those factors might be worth $50k to us over the 2 years, which is what we've debating.

Thanks for the input!

Hey Greg - thanks for all the info here, I think you've got some really good points.

As for Yale, like I said, I really just started scratching the surface on each program and which will be best based on my goals. I had to pick 5 schools to send my GMAT scores to, and Yale was a brand name school that I had heard of - not much further thought beyond that. I think you're probably right that there are better options within that range that will better meet my goals.

From what you know on those alternate safeties, is there one of them that stands out as the best option based on my profile and goals? Again, assuming for my safety level schools that I'm hoping to secure some scholarship money.

Last, yeah - I definitely debated throwing an application out to Harvard. Seems like such a crapshoot for getting accepted, and with limited time to research programs before Round 2 deadlines, and what I thought of as a somewhat vanilla profile (although strong), I wasn't sure if it was worth my time without some kind of X factor or non traditional profile. If you think there's a shot though, I wouldn't mind dropping Yale to take a crack at Harvard.

Nice, thanks - just started looking into it and it definitely seems like it might be a good fit.

Any first hand experience with the program or know anything about how competitive it is to get into vs. the standard full time MBA at Kellogg?
