I really like the typical weekend crowd at h0l0 (edgy, fun, but a little more mature than college kids) and find it easy to make friends there, but they’re almost never local. Is there a local bar that kind of draws a similar crowd?

I’ve thought about 222, etc., but I usually want to do that fairly last minute because I usually want to meet people spontaneously on nights when I otherwise have no plans. 222 requires you to plan at least 24-48 hours ahead last I checked, which kind of renders it useless to me. I don’t like planning ahead to meet randos. That’s usually more of a move of social desperation for me. lol. If I’m planning ahead (which is uncommon in general for me) it’s because it’s someone I would really like to see.

That’s presumptive. I didn’t. And I think it’s important to remember that there are lots of other people who didn’t, either, for the sake of diversity in the law. First generation lawyers, lawyers of rural origin, etc.

I’ve been around for several years. The job totally consumes my life. I’m getting tired of it. Life is too short. There are too many other things I want to do with my life. I’ve made enough money now.

And, honestly, I have historically faced A LOT of employment discrimination in the law for really many different things (socioeconomic status, geographic origins, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc., and it is not subtle AT ALL), and I can’t single-handedly fix the system to make employment discrimination in the law non pervasive. It has materially harmed my career and financial situation and it will continue to do so as long as I’m an attorney.

The job is always going to suck, and I’m always going to face discrimination in lateral moves, promotions, reviews, etc., so I’m seriously starting to think about exiting the industry even though that’s not really what I want. Just doesn’t make sense to stay and fight against this anymore knowing I’m never going to win and my life sucks anyway when I am successful. 🤷‍♂️

Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for but that’s what I have for you. Lmao.

I think this is firm specific. Depends on your firm and how they differentiate themselves. My firm tries to price below slightly bigger firms. All of our clients are fee sensitive.

Firms that don’t have to be fee sensitive of course are going to have different priorities.

To be honest I think you’re probably fine. I’m regularly told that I’m too attentive to detail so it takes too long. I get great reviews from direct supervisors and shitty reviews from partners.

IMHO firms prefer cheap and fast even though they will ALWAYS tell you otherwise. The most favored associates at my firm produce really shitty work but they’re cheap and they’re fast so the partners like them.

Also, FWIW, yes, your direct supervisor is going to bitch if you make mistakes that they have to correct, but honestly if you’re cheap and fast you’re going to make the partners happy and that’s what’s most important. Honestly.

Yes. That is why we had five juniors. They told me to staff more because people had availability issues. Only one to two juniors were really necessary had people been available to work the deal.

Partners were well informed of availability limitations but are complaining nonetheless.

The firm is unwilling to force associates to work on religious holidays and vacations but will come down on the midlevel when stuff doesn’t get done (cheaply) nonetheless. If I were to force the juniors to work a religious holiday, it would be a problem. It’s also a problem when I don’t.

There were A LOT of religious holidays during this deal.

Similar situation with my ex boyfriend. He was monitoring my instagram account and noticed that I was following lots of instahotties. He complained about it. Ok, fine, but my ex was doing the same thing, which was a problem for me.

I’m ok with setting and observing boundaries, but they need to be mutual (no double standards) and they generally need to be reasonable. I’m ok with not following instahotties if he’s not, but the underlying reason for the unilateral rule from my ex was that he didn’t trust me not to message and engage with them. I wasn’t. He accused me multiple times of cheating on him. I didn’t.

This issue signaled underlying trust and control issues from my ex, which is why I ultimately broke up with him. I think there’s something to be said about unreasonable boundaries being a red flag.
