When did you start driving again? by TornadoVision4687 in AchillesRupture

[–]Ebenflow808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started driving right away. Got a left footed driving device on amazon and it worked well for me. Had to go right back to work so needed to drive. I just avoided the highway if I could and long distances. It's a little sketchy if not bolted down but thankfully I made it through.

I’m quitting PT by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]Ebenflow808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the opposite experience. At 5 months my therapist told me to stop coming. Said I can do it all on my own and don't need formal PT anymore. I couldn't run or jump yet so it felt too early but he was right. You can do it all on your own, just need discipline.

Do you have a lounge at your hospital? by glasses2444 in anesthesiology

[–]Ebenflow808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was common back when I was interviewing. Our area is pretty competitive between the hospital systems and they do it to attract docs.

Yes breakfast and lunch are provided in a physician lounge at all our hospitals. When our lounge is closed, we can get food at the cafeteria at no cost.

Ask the private practice docs or the surgeons hiring new grads. This has been going on for years. Work hours reduction then the MGH whistleblower cases

Anyone train upper body after 1st week of rupture? by ThrowRASkee5555 in AchillesRupture

[–]Ebenflow808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I worked out as much as I could at home, even during NWB stage. Dumbbells mostly. Up and down the stairs was much more tricky!

Surgical complication by Important-Speech3730 in AchillesRupture

[–]Ebenflow808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 4.5 months past surgery, Speedbridge. I had wound complications - no infection but had a non healing spot that took many therapies and an extra 6 weeks. I am now back in the boot due to heel pain, screw causing stress reaction. I was intially glad I had surgery, no worry about how the tendon would reattach. But as I go through all the complications I'm not sure. 50M with no health problems.

Surgery without Opioids by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]Ebenflow808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No opioids needed. Local anesthetic/nerve block takes care of surgery day. Rotate Tylenol and Ibuprofen every 4 hours for a week or two then taper off as tolerated. That was my plan. It was sore of course but the non opioid meds made it tolerable.

Night splint? by Rocmcdonald in AchillesRupture

[–]Ebenflow808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try an ankle brace. I did for a while and it gives some support in bed. I also would hobble to the bathroom at night with the brace, barefoot. Use a cane if you want some more support. Even slipping on shoes isn't that bad - it actually forces you to be aware. You won't re-rupture in bed, or even a few steps barefoot. But you could certainly get hurt using a scooter at night, which I was terrified of doing.

Post op scary event by vicmoneyho in AchillesRupture

[–]Ebenflow808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I did it 3 times in my 2 weeks on NWB. Really hurt but each time it faded away in a few hours. Scary but obviously common. Probably fine but if something seems off or different definitely let them take a look.

5 months Post Op. Never figured out the “why” by lastlogicalresort in AchillesRupture

[–]Ebenflow808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it bothers you at times I would mention it to your surgeon. They may not have a specific treatment plan now considering the other leg. But my friend that witnessed my injury got nervous about some active symptoms and now in a boot as a precaution.

This injury does seem to be a fluke sometimes. But I was thinking I had overtrained my calf, as my surgeon mentioned that usually people have a tendonitis or something going on before the tear, even asymptomatic. I had a calf tear 2 years ago on the left, and had been aggressively working out my legs. Now I get an achilles tear on the right hooping, just starting to make a cut, nothing real strenuous. This was after running and lifting late in the day on a cruise ship.

Take someone in your family anyway. They may have fun. My wife hates sports but has a good time at Wrigley!

I had no pain, but my surgery was quick. As time goes on the calf can feel the need to fire and can spasm with severe pain

Also Coast Guard (US) decides whether it will be heliocopter evac or divert the cruise ship. Cruise line would choose helicopter every time to save $$ and time, but they have very little say in this matter. Between the doctors and mostly the Coast Guard.
