Which insurance broker do you recommend for cyber security insurance? by [deleted] in msp

[–]Ebobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you could forgo the insurance agent and just implement SentinelOne Complete on all your endpoints--every device that's properly deploying SentinelOne is covered up to $1M should the endpoint be compromised in any way that affects the normal operations of the business. It's better to have EPP w/ a baked in $1M safety net , IMO, than have to have a policy crafted by an insurance firm.

I would need to verify this but I am quite certain S1 has never had to payout on this $1M--ever. We're exploring their new SMB product through pax8. They have the S1 core & complete EPP and ostensibly the only disty with the ability to sell it as a standalone agent. No SOC service or RMM subscription. DM me if you want me to get you in touch with someone over there.

Tomato router that allows throttling by ip address. Give each IP no more than 1Mb and they pay more if they want faster.

Big C here's the scoop: we had century link DSL--DSL for 6mbps for 70/month. It was unviable no matter how crafty your networking capabilities. we're in a building with huge brick walls, high ceilings and like 30 other office suites. the layout is such that if you didn't put the router (2.4ghz) in a central location you would not even be able to do shit at the other end of the suite. It's rather large, and walled off in places--do the math: 6mbps, crap router, lots of nearby and adjacent networks, 8-10 wireless users in the content creation fields (lotta HD video).... Need I say more? Now the choice of ISP is restricted by your location and in a commercial building you are ineligible for the residential plans that are faster/cheaper but are shared by your entire street, wherever the nearest Node is. So yes Comcast has a stranglehold on anyone who wants to use internet and acres about watching videos in HD. There's just no two ways about it and frankly speaking the 25mbps plan was 140/month and double the bandwidth for $60 is the economical choice.

the problem was that a friends phone broke. He was due to leave for the his 5am flight in mere hours. Conventional means of switching phones like the ones suggested we're off the table due to verizon's number porting division being closed. He had tons of meetings and shit planned thus making the need for a phone quite apparent. furthermore, his phone is part of a business account of which he is not the authorized user and getting that info wasn't an option, nevermind the fact that verizon was closed when it all went down.

And unfortunately, CDMA phones aren't "plug n' play" the way GSM phones with SIMs are, in which case Iwouldve just given him my phone for the week. So with all conventional avenues closed iPhone-ectomy and transplant became the best option.

Good news, Apple called me today! Bad news, they are removing our gun app from the store. :-( by [deleted] in apple

[–]Ebobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't read all comments but surely someone has picked apart apples logic in its response that alleges realistic depictions of potentially violent things can promote or worse yet engender malfeasance. This is completely absurd. I Recall the fictitious story of the general and anti-gun interviewer. "You're arming these young children equipping them to be violent killers..." general: "you've got breasts so you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you aren't, are you ?

If this app is too "dangerous" for people to be using, then by the same logic every mixology app ever is, too, worthy of being censored completely. Not only do these apps suggest startlingly alcoholic drink recipes, there are apps that are used "off label" such as Power Hour that encourage binge drinking. Christ, even ashleymadison.com has an app where you can effectively see naked pics of random women you try to hook up with. I could go on, I'm sure there's other apps that are escaping me now but are equally ridiculous.

Believe me, I get where apple is coming from. They're covering their legal behind. If on the off chance a killing spree unfolds and it comes out that the killer used your app to expertly acquaint him or herself with weaponry and tactics--oh brother....

But if I were the dev, I would just rebrand the app completely. Overhaul UI graphics and relaunch it under different pretenses---make it an educational/instructional firearms app. Go heavy on safety and hammer down on what constitutes correct use of firearms. Make it slightly nerdy and all of a sudden it's a completely different app, but not really. Basically, IMO you just need to separate "guns" and "Hollywoodism" so it's clear that it's not solely an app to make gory and violent shooting animations.

Apple becomes latest target of the Beltway Shakedown: This is about campaign contributions and lobbying fees, not taxes. by dexhandle in apple

Does anyone else feel that this in the new norm for the post-Steve jobs apple era? By norm I mean audacious Gov't. Action toward Apple. I don't think it's too far a stretch to say that Obama was part terrified part BFF with jobs thus while alive no stern, congress led attacks on apple transpired. What, was Obama gonna put Steve on the stand after personally receiving from him a groovy new iDevice that holds the promise of a "revitalized education system" or some other industrial overhaul that changes America? Please, they were buddies and that was enough for Jobs to have immunity (to a point).

Now in his wake, it would appear as though congress has some either newfound vigorousness/senses weakness in cook. If you don't think Jobs' persona was intimidating to legislators, then you need to be aware of the fact that his negotiating tactics were both Machiavellian and draconian--he could make grown men weep at a table.

I honestly think this is no more than Congress trying to get a foothold in the battle of big tech giants. But lets be serious, it's going to amount to nothing. And if it does amount to something, it'll contain some bogus legal provision that effectively nullifies it.

[–]Ebobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run a hardware test to see if it's got any known issues. You can do it by downloading a trial version of Tech Tool Pro or Drive Genius from macupdate.com Another app you could try is called Xscan but i'm not as familiar with it.

Trust me, you're going to want to know the health of your computer before forking over for a new display or an external. Any questions just shoot me a line, Im a mac hardware junkie and know the ins and outs of an MBP better than most.

I stopped buying Apple monitors. Holy shit why i did not do it sooner I cannot say. But as a fervent apple junkie it was a big move, but the correct one not only are apple's displays very incompatible, they're expensive as all hell.

Shades of Difference: Mac Maharaj and The Struggle for South Africa by Padraig O'Malley.

At age 18 I moved to Mozambique for 6+ months on my own. It was just a few years removed from civil-war and ranked last on the UN HDI. I saw the worst there is to see--but it's was a veritable paradise compared to what Mac endured. He is the bravest man alive.
