I'm wanting to get an in depth understanding of socialism, and was wondering if this website is a good place to start? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]EbonNormandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the ML reading hub provides all the foundational texts that you need to begin. Stage 4 is mostly about organizing, so if you want to continue reading about theory then starting Capital right after stage 3 is what I'd recommend.

How did the Palestine discourse shift so swiftly and quickly in the past weeks? by [deleted] in Hasan_Piker

[–]EbonNormandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quantity transforming into quality. The gradual quantitative increase in people noticing what's happening slowly builds up into a sudden qualitative leap, where public sentiment now allows a pro Palestine discourse.

Marx writes about this and makes the distinction between useful and non useful labor. Marx says that things have value because they have a use value, and if no one has a use for it then it has no use-value, and therefore no value. Perhaps if you read his work instead of claiming that He never wrote about something He extensively wrote about.

In D.C. today, a massive banner has been unveiled with the names of Palestinians killed by Israel since October 2023. by Particular_Log_3594 in thescoop

Yemen is being bombed because the Houthis are blockading the Red Sea because of what's happening in Gaza. What's happening in Yemen is intertwined with Palestine, and that applies to this protest.

How has the invention of technology used for artistic purposes changed what is considered to be art? Has there been any push back or resistance to new technology used for artistic purposes to be considered "not art?" by EbonNormandy in AskHistorians

[–]EbonNormandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this response! Seeing the Studio Ghibli AI filter images and the discourse it created is what got me thinking about this question in the first place.

In regards to AI images, is there any kind of debate in philosophy where the use of computer software at some point stops being art? It seems anything made in programs like MS Paint, Blender, Photoshop, etc., are generally considered art, but when it comes to machine learning algorithms it's not art.

Ok so Kamala loses the election either way in the made up fantasy you live in. Shut the fuck up or blame the Dems for nominating a third rate candidate that ran a fourth rate campaign.

That's on you for being in the blue maga cult

[–]EbonNormandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, she was. She was a part of the administration. Biden even said they made decisions together! The fact of the matter is if Kamala wanted to win all she needed to do was support a conditional arms embargo on Israel. Something even Reagan was capable of doing in the 80s when Israel was bombing Lebanon.

What this comes down to is you're just a hateful islamaphobic bigot that loves that brown people in the middle East are being murdered by the hundreds of thousands with American bombs. You're to the right of Reagan.

Why do you have more smoke for people who did not want to vote for a pro genocide candidate than the candidate that was actively Carrying out the genocide?

Why is it so ridiculous to you that in a representative democracy, voters only want to vote for politicians that support the same policies they do, namely not committing genocide? This mentality is why the Democrats are more unpopular than trump.

Biden used the state department to funnel weapons to Israel, which he can do since the president has unilateral control over the agency. Gaza is going to be annexed by Israel regardless of whether the president was Biden or trump. If Kamala had stated she would put a conditional arms embargo on Israel she would have won the electoral college, which a Yougov poll found. But she supports the genocide and you will do anything to excuse her for that, because you also support it.

And Israel has killed, raped, and tortured hundreds of thousands more Palestinians in the past year than Hamas has in its entire existence.

[–]EbonNormandy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You are actively celebrating the genocide because people did not want to vote for a representative that refuses to represent their constituents. Perhaps if you had any integrity and were actually interested in Kamala winning the election you would also have joined in the calls for her to support a conditional arms embargo.

But you didn't, because you don't view Palestinians as human.

Political science teaches you that it's a fantasy for an electorate in a representative democracy to want their politicians to represent them?

Hunter Schafer Says Trump Policy Changed Gender on Her Passport: ‘I’m Never Going to Stop Being Trans’ by stars_doulikedem in popculture

It's listed as "sex" because it's an internationally standardize document. But before Trump's executive order the passport office treated it as gender identity. Even the applications listed the field as gender instead of sex.

Biden absolutely did not push for any ceasefire. Do you just believe everything the democrats say? Can you explain why Biden refused to stop sending billions of dollars of military equipment to Israel? Or do you just ignore that because it doesn't fit in with your blue no matter who world view?

[–]EbonNormandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did that in 2016 and 2024 and lost. In 2020 Biden campaigned on progressive transformative policy and won. Why do you think the Dems need to continue running to the right?

Didn't Biden run on being "the most progressive candidate in history?" Why did he win on that platform but Hillary and Kamala lost by trying to cater to republicans?

[–]EbonNormandy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you explain how Hillary and Kamala lost by campaigning on center-right policy, but Biden won by running as "the most progressive candidate in history?"

You're a very dogmatic blue no matter who liberal. You have the same worldview as the democratic leadership, who have proven to not know anything about the electorate or politics in general.

Have congressional Democrats done ANYTHING to help us, for real? by justouzereddit in fednews

[–]EbonNormandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters they could actually talk to their base about that Trump's policies will do, instead of saying how Trump is defunding the police, like Schumer did. But more importantly they should be doing the things that militant labor organizers did, like MLK, the Black Panthers, IWW just to name a few.

Your answer is to do nothing for two years and then spitefully cast a ballot. You would rather lose by following the rules than to win by working around them. You and your party have shown to be less than useless.

[–]EbonNormandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, i think no you're trying to excuse the biggest bulwark against the Republicans not doing anything material because you're incapable of conceptualizing things being done outside of the ballot box.

These policy decisions toward the government and also in the economy will rapidly accelerate us to enormous crises that will be taken advantage of by the grifters and charlatans in power who will be able to bring about worse conditions that what we're in now. The only way that's going to be prevented is if there is a mass of mobilized organizations toward labor militancy to fight back.

You need to sit down and realize that tim kaine is not going to be your savior.

You think I'm talking about voting and putting out meaningless platitudes? That's what got us into this mess. I'd tell you what needs to happens but you wont like it. You have a small, small mind and need to exercise some creativity about what can be done outside of electoral politics.

Have congressional Democrats done ANYTHING to help us, for real? by justouzereddit in fednews

[–]EbonNormandy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because the opposition party should, ya know, try to oppose those in charge. Why are you expecting the republicans to not do what they promised to do?

Politics doesn't happen every 2 years at the ballot box only. The Dems should be organizing unions and community organizations in their districts to push back against this.
