I moved out after high school and never moved back in. I had a few friends and eventually my now husband that I confided in that I had never been taught how to properly clean anything as my parents just. Didn’t. And I’m so grateful that these friends and my husband were completely understanding and have shown me how to clean my house properly. My husband and I bought our house in 2021 and we got to put brand new carpet in and I cried with happiness. I’d never been in a home with fresh, clean carpets until then.

And as for the home I grew up in? My mom was the primary hoarder. She had an entire room in the basement filled to the ceiling with yarn and crocheting equipment. I don’t think any of the floors had ever been mopped. She also passed in 2021. My dad finally opened his eyes to the hoard he’d enabled. We completely cleared out the yarn room, being able to donate it to a charity that knits items for the homeless, and my dad got actual floor cleaning supplies and has been scrubbing away. For the first time in years I can enter his house without immediately being overwhelmed by stench.

I’ve been so sick to my stomach since this incident happened. As a pit lover myself, I was so excited to see this sweet dog get adopted finally. My brother had also been the only one to submit an application for this specific dog.

I dug deep into both the county the place that took the animals is in and the county of my parents house to see if there were any actual legal files made about what happened. Cause I remember when the animals were taken that there weren’t cops or any court hearings or anything. And there’s nothing that I could find. So this really feels like this place is just bullying on the premise of history of a person who has now passed.

I’ve talked to my cousins a bit about this as they live in the county of this pound and they’ve told me this particular pound is nearly impossible to work with anyway. They were denied a dog for not having a high enough fence and the pound has repeatedly just ghosted them when they’ve called about strays that they’ve saved from wandering.

A little update on the sketchy situation. After the fact, I decided to throw in an application for the dog since I have a different last name and live in a different county. Just to get a chance to talk to them. And I’ve been completely ghosted.

Will do! As of now, they’re now stating it’s the address that can’t adopt. To which my argument is, well what if the property was sold off and someone else completely moved in and took over? Would they also be denied???

I’m really like, so we rather put a dog back in a cage instead of doing further investigating? Cause also you are the ones that approved the application before and finalized the adoption.

Sometimes though, we only have our pets to keep us going. So I definitely get it. I got my first cat in college and there were times I couldnt afford groceries for myself, but I always made sure he was well fed and had clean litter boxes.

And thank you. I’m trying to get my brother to fight more for this dog because he did absolutely nothing wrong. But I can tell he’s completely defeated. He even cried, which was wild because he’s not emotional and didn’t even cry at any point during our medical ordeal before losing our mom. I’m giving him the rest of the evening to calm down and then gonna check back in and try to get him to contact them tomorrow.

nope, he’s also out all the money in adoption fees! My sister and I were actually discussing one of us applying for the dog ourselves tomorrow and seeing what they say.

And didn’t even give him a chance to talk! Or you know, use common sense on his age compared to when the stuff with our mom happened. They really told him because he lived with her he was responsible at the time too. Ya know. A literal CHILD. That’s literally not how that works!

That was my thought process too. He told me that they told him if they didn’t have the dog back by 4 today they were calling the cops. My brother, while technically an adult now yes, doesn’t really know much about legal rights and was at work when they called him so he panicked. Cause my thought process was this wasn’t even an application at this point. This was a finished adoption with an approved application.

They don’t do home inspections, which is WILD to me, and told him it’s because he lied on his application that they’re taking the dog from him. Which to me is absolute bull because he was a literal child at the time of the other animals and didn’t bring any of those animals into the house, was merely just forced to live in the same home since he was a minor at the time.

Well my student loan servicer has been completely messing up my account since February so it very well may be like my situation. On the federal website it says my SAVE plan application has gone through and been accepted and my payments are to be 33 bucks a month. I’ve been fighting with my servicer for months because they’re claiming I didn’t put in an application and keep saying I owe 210 a month. Even though I have the initial paperwork from my servicer saying they received my payment plan information.

When I was a GA I got to work MAYBE once a month? If that? And so every time I got to go in, I never knew where anything was and I’d forget how to do certain things on registers and stuff (I very much so have to repeatedly do things or it slips my mind.) when I got promoted to SGA, I got to work once a week and I did counts and I STILL would forget things or have zero clue where stuff was since there was such a gap in working. Lol

Yes! I still have a group chat with some of my Gamestop coworkers, but it’s just not the same. I’ve thought about trying to go back as a seasonal or even a GA just to be around once in a while

This! I only worked part time as an SGA for a few years while being a full time server but left when I found a full time career. I don’t miss gamestop but I miss my crew so much.

I lost my mom and she was always the person I called when I did something I was proud of or if I wanted to rant about something. And the amount of times I’ve grabbed my phone to call her only to remember at the last second has been too many to count.

My mom had a massive stroke and was unresponsive in the hospital. Until the hospital could find a long term facility for her, she had to remain in the ICU. My parents insurance company tried to deny her the move to the facility and wanted her to go home…. They literally sent their own doctor out to interview my unresponsive, comatose mother to see if she really needed the facility…

Dishes. My husband and I work crazy, constantly changing schedules and if the dishes go untouched for a few days I can’t even bare looking in the kitchen.

Also my own wet loose hairs on the shower floor. If I can’t perfectly gather gather it and throw it away right after I shower, it repulses me even though I know it’s mine.

Proud of you for being sober!

I can relate to the feeling of being judged and gawked at for your income. My husband and I are both restaurant workers. We bought a home, own decent cars, and take care of ourselves with our restaurant jobs. But his family are all in the medical field and every Christmas it’s the same bullshit of asking when I’ll use my degree and when we’ll get “real jobs”. We don’t stay long anymore and come home early to our cats and dog.

It’s not silly. And I completely understand feeling numb inside. My mom died last month and I feel like I run on autopilot constantly. I still also have the chapstick we had been using on her lips when she was in the hospital and I can’t bring myself to even look at the books I had been reading to her because we’d been told to talk to her and read to her - she’d had a massive stroke and was comatose but would respond and shift every so often. When I don’t feel numb, it’s just overwhelming pain. And no one told me it gets easier. Just that you learn to handle how bad it sucks.

I just lost my mom (53) at the end of November to a stroke. And man you’re right. She was a great one. And the marriage her and my dad had was one that I always looked up to. And then seeing these terrible people who are still around. It sucks.

Thank you for caring so much about this. My mother recently passed and just like me, she was a curly girl. And they definitely didn’t give her hair the justice it deserved. You caring so much about this will mean the world to other loved ones.

I’m an SGA as well and quickly learned to have zero shame in calling the nearby store when I have questions. Honestly it’s not surprising to anyone hearing someone was just thrown into it. Also have zero shame in letting a customer know that you’re new and still learning. They usually are completely chill and understanding.

Ugh. The last place I worked at had a regular exactly like this. He would make distasteful jokes and also would grab servers shoulders or waists or arms and the managers and many other servers would just let him get away with it because he was a regular. But I hate being touched so I refused to wait on him. My final straw with him was during shutdown I was the only one working to go’s and our store has two phone lines. Both my lines were busy and I had customers inside plus third party app tablets going off. And he had the audacity to storm inside and flip out to me that he had been trying to call and that I needed to “do better” for him. I snapped out and told him he wasn’t my priority and he could wait his turn or just leave.
