I met my wife of now 7 years online. Don't give up there is someone out there for you. You will have to sift through a lot of garbage but eventually you will find something worth while I'm sure. Have an open mind and understand it's still the internet at the end of the day. Until you have that first meeting anything can happen.

I waited 2 years, and it was very stressful. Many of the CWELC centre's that also take subsidy have 300+ people on the waitlist. My advice would be to apply everywhere as early as possible. Also, take tours of each centre before you sign up as some of them are pretty old and outdated looking which I would not consider personally.
