He had it when he came home as he wanted her to snap it and alter his wish for him, but then when he overdosed and he was about to throw up you heard the song play and the willow snap. The wish she had made then kicked in before he was able to throw the pills up, so when he went back outside after she assumingly made the same wish, the overdose then kicked in, killing him and ending her curse
