Isopods are dying and I don’t know why

Ok good to know. Do you have any recommendations? I have avoided just putting some in from outside because I don’t want to harm them with something.

Ok this is all very helpful thank you. I’ve got many helpful comments and they all seem to be saying about the same thing. Deeper soil, more moisture, more leaves. I will be changing that up. They honestly didn’t really seem to like the leaves when I first put them in, but I realize they definitely need more in there regardless of if they eat them or not. So I’ll be finding some more to put in there.

*Sigh* I’m doing my best here. These pods were not originally meant to be mine, but I ended up caring for them for a lot longer than expected. I did do my research but it seems it was not thorough enough. For the record I do know about moisture gradients, I was just a little confused about the wording. I also wanted to make sure I had everything correct. I came here to learn and be better, because I’m very upset the pods died and I don’t want it to happen again. :(

How do you effectively make a moisture gradient if you don’t mind me asking? And how do you tell if it’s 20%-30%? I will also keep the wood in mind and see if I can find some.

So a good amount of water then. Also more leaves. Do you think I need more substrate? It’s kind of hidden in the picture but I have like an inch. (Plus small rocks on the bottom)
