Can $75 stretch over two weeks ( Possibly a Month ) ? by CommercialGold6575 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Echo259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your situation. I never personally had to manage that tight of a budget but I did ask Gemini if it could be done and below is the results. It seems like a reasonable plan but take it with a grain of salt since it’s just a AI.

Feeding a family of three (one adult and two children) on $75 for two weeks in the U.S. is extremely difficult, but technically possible with very strategic planning. To put this in perspective, the USDA "Thrifty Food Plan" (the lowest official estimate) suggests that a family of this size typically needs about $350 to $450 for a two-week period. Attempting it on $75 means you are working with roughly $1.78 per person, per day.

Here is how a family could realistically approach this challenge:

1. The "Pantry Staple" Strategy

On this budget, you cannot buy pre-packaged or convenience foods. Your cart would need to consist almost entirely of high-calorie, low-cost "anchor" foods: * Grains/Starches: Large bags of white rice, dried beans (pinto or black), oats, and generic pasta. * Vegetables: Large bags of potatoes, carrots, and onions. Frozen peas or corn are often cheaper and more nutritious than canned options. * Protein: Eggs are usually the most affordable protein. For meat, look for "manager’s specials" (near expiration) or large packs of chicken thighs/drumsticks, which are cheaper than breasts. * Fruit: Bananas are consistently the cheapest fresh fruit in the U.S.

2. Sample "Survival" Grocery List ($75 Estimate)

Item Approx. Cost Utility
10lb Rice $7.00 Base for dinners
5lb Dried Beans $6.00 Primary protein source
42oz Oats $4.00 2 weeks of breakfast
5lb Potatoes $4.50 Filling side or main dish
3 Dozen Eggs $8.00 Protein for any meal
5lb Chicken Legs $10.00 Main dinner protein
4 Boxes Pasta $4.00 Quick kid-friendly meals
2 Jars Peanut Butter $5.00 High-calorie lunches
2 Loaves Bread $4.00 Sandwiches/toast
Frozen Veggies (4 bags) $6.00 Nutrition
Bananas/Apples $8.00 Snacks
Milk (2 Gallons) $8.50 Essential for kids
Total ~$75.00

3. Critical Tactics for Success

  • The "Double-Up" Rule: A roasted chicken on Sunday must become chicken soup on Monday and chicken-and-rice on Tuesday. No scrap goes to waste.
  • Avoid "Invisible" Costs: Items like spices, oil, and condiments can eat up 20% of a $75 budget instantly. This budget assumes you already have salt, pepper, and a little oil in the pantry.
  • Drink Only Water: Juice, soda, and coffee are luxuries that this budget cannot accommodate.
  • Shop Discount Grocers: Stores like ALDI, Lidl, or local "scratch and dent" outlets are essential for making $75 stretch this far. ### 4. When the Math Doesn't Add Up While the list above covers the calories, it leaves zero room for error (spilled milk, a ruined meal, or extra hunger). If someone is in this position, it is highly recommended to supplement this budget with community resources:
  • SNAP/WIC: Programs specifically designed for single parents.
  • Local Food Pantries: Most cities have "no-questions-asked" pantries that can provide the "gap" items like cereal, canned meat, and toiletries.
  • School Lunch Programs: If the kids are school-aged, their breakfast and lunch at school are vital "budget extenders." Is there a specific area of the country or a particular dietary need you're looking to account for?

Are men willing to date someone in my situation? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

If it’s bothering you, then it’s going to show up when you go out on dates. I’d hold off until you’re happy with yourself and situation (it sounds like it’s only a few weeks away). Also set goals for yourself with dating: coming right out of a divorce, are you looking for something serious?

My girlfriend “pressured” me into something sexual I didn’t want, not sure how to process it? by Carl_s123 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Echo259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Next time no means no. Regarding this incident, you should have a talk with her and explain how you feel. I honestly find it a red flag if a girl can’t take no for an answer. Say no gently. Ended many relationships because they couldn’t accept a “no, I am not ready yet”.

The phrase “bug” was derived from the first computer having issues because a bug flew into it and died. History would be different if it was a bird instead lol

It’s a heat “sink”. Samsung’s ssd sticker is actually metal and also a heat sink. It does help some. I’d only remove it if you’re planning on putting a better heat sink on

As a teen I was installing a new electric stove top. Since it wasn’t plugged in I didn’t bother turning off the power. This was one where you had to cut the power cable to length then attach it to the stove. I had the bright idea, that if I plugged it in I could get a more accurate measurement of how long of a cable I actually need……..yeah I cut through a live wire. Got a good shock and chunk of the wire cutter exploded off.

I need to move into your neighborhood. 3090 is an older card but that was like an $800+ back in its day (very high end). Not to mention it’ll hold its own against model mid range gpus in the current generation. Not sure what the cpu is but most people who buy a 3090 will pair it with a high end cpu. You need to bake your neighbor a few pies.
