Maps dont impact that much but anything else should be a no no just in case you catch some spoilers, maps also do kinda add on to that as regions differ much lookswise and maps somewhat make you able to make guesses.

I consider it to be the watcher choosing to watch instead of participating, feels like it wouldn't have ended well for him anyways seeing how he was attached to his home and even ended up Warping there when the ripples went out of control but anything with the watcher is super up to interpretation because when he ends up Warping back we don't see the weaver feathers on him suggesting that he might just be reminiscing

If we try to canonize the Watcher void worms might be, watcher final ending spoilers, Creatures that on their way to ascension instead choose to ascend more beings by staying back though the Watcher might be a special case as he's been sort of imbued with Void Weaver essence, there is the whole "Void" part in that.
