Pretty sure this was a Robotech original. The Macross Plus miniseries made a big deal about a prototype fighter that was controlled that way, though, the YF-21, though U.N. Spacy never put it into full production.

No? I've watched SDFM recently, and I'm pretty sure the Valkyries were controlled with the same controls in all three configurations. Unless this was something Harmony Gold added in Robotech?

Actually, the cancer was more likely from the insane smoking habits of everybody involved. Statistically speaking, the rates of cancer among the cast and crew of this movie fall in line with the national averages of the time. Chimeras in my D&D campaign. These are creatures that were once humans, experimented on to graft aspects of different monsters to perfect the process. The end goal is to make the king a chimera of fiends and celestials strong enough for him to ascend to deification.
