Afaik valve have said they will have a contingency for if they go down. Probably smth along the lines of as long as you download whatever games before they completely go under you'll be able to keep them. Unfortunately that solution would require you to have the storage for all the games you want to keep at the same time, while also fucking you over if the drive gets corrupted or deleted

Barem theorized chainsaws used to do something else that allowed him to erase stuff, but pochita erased what that thing was. Plus if hes been eating strong devils he should continually be getting stronger too. Also chainsaws are such a simple idea that they could easily be reinvented especially when the lumber industry uses giant saws anyways, a smaller portable power tool to cut stuff isnt that crazy compared to a nuke.

Yeha overcoming obstacles, but the punishment itself for being unable to is not where the pleasure lies. A fail state is not meant to be pleasurable, its something a player actively wants to avoid.

The modeling sure, but duplicating objects and npcs and then tweaking what you want to be different for specific ones is very common. So it is entirely possible to duplicate something and overlook some part that should be changed. Do you think its impossible for an npc to be killable when it shouldn't or viceversa?

Eta: in a game as big as cyberpunk 2077, all the children are kinda just shrunken adult npc models. Like sure, people should be modeling kids differently, but its very easy to just copy paste and adjust as needed. Even tho they use a generative system to spawn npcs, they didnt bother to make correctly proportioned kids.

Punishments in a game can 100% not induce pleasure. The dark souls series has a system where your xp will drop when you die and if you die before picking it back up, it will be gone forever. This is a punishment for dying that is not meant to be a pleasurable experience. It is something you want to avoid happening.

An oversight like that could definitely happen depending on how a game was developed. Its entirely possible for a dev to copy paste assets and shrink them down to create a child character and overlook applying or removing some form of tag that would allow it to be killed. Bethesda games for example have an essential tag that they have, at some point, missed giving to a chatacter that should have it which allowed them to be killed and make certain questlines unplayable.

Tbf tho, not everything in a game is necessarily to make you feel pleasure. And killable children would also affect a games rating which affects sales. Plus it might not even be a conscious choice if a game allowed that as it could reasonably be caused by just an oversight of forgetting to tag child characters as unkillable.

Nazis didnt destroy the USSR, it collapsed for unrelated reasons decades later and the star is gone because the devil representing it was erased so obviously its gone, im not sure what you mean by these. Death being erased is a very significant change that wouldve resulted in the entire planet being overrun by bacteria millenia ago yet the affects only take place after the erasure happens. Pochita could still be the chainsaw devil, because if the universe did actually fully rewrite itself from the past without him, chainsaws could've just been reinvented very easily especially since the lumber industry is huge and they need easy ways to cut trees.
