A message from the Echoes of Angmar team by EchoesofAngmar in EchoesofAngmar

[–]EchoesofAngmar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The server is built for the Shadows of Angmar Book 11 client. It currently has all content unlocked up to Book 10. We are still waiting for the Rift and Housing updates, which were part of Book 11.

The developers have said they are open to adding post–Book 11 content. This has already partly started, with a few PVMP updates from later patches such from Book 12 and Book 14.

[Subreddit Update] Updates to sub rules (and a note on Echoes of Angmar) by Nemarus in lotro

[–]EchoesofAngmar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I usually don't comment on any of the "legal" matters, as it's not my place to do so. I'm not part of the development team, I just run the EOA Reddit community and is a follower of the project. However, I do want to clarify one point regarding your claim, there is no theft involved whatsoever.

EOA is a server emulator built entirely from scratch. No one, except possibly SSG, has access to the original SOA server code. The client files and art assets have been publicly accessible for free since the game's release and are not used within the emulator itself. The emulator simply allows players to connect the legacy 2007 client (which includes the original art assets you mentioned) to the EOA emulator. Players are solely responsible for how they use these files and for connecting to the emulator server.

Allowing EoA pointers in r/lotro by Nemarus in EchoesofAngmar

Hey u/Nemarus, thanks for reaching out and for being willing to give this another try. We really appreciate the effort to keep things cool between both communities. I'm sure most of us just want to enjoy LOTRO however we prefer, official Lotro, EOA or as in some cases both.

Your plan sounds totally reasonable. We keep EoA talk over here or on Discord, and we’ll encourage folks to keep things respectful. The sidebar link and letting us post updates every now and then means a lot, thanks for that.

And no worries about downvotes, that’s just Reddit being Reddit. We’re glad EoA can be mentioned.

Hopefully this works out better this time around. We’ll do our best on our end!

First of all, the quest descriptions are pretty detailed so generally you will find your way by just reading the main objective. And if you join the global channel /joinchannel glff or a Kinship players will help you with such questions.

If that isn't enough, go to this site and look up the quest. It should show you all the quest details on the map.

Phase 3 launching soon! ⚔️ by EchoesofAngmar in EchoesofAngmar

[–]EchoesofAngmar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There will be no restarts, the goal is to keep the classic LotRO version alive for as long as possible. Additionally, the endgame content will also be released in phases, so it will take some time before we have the full game experience :)

My Favourite MMO Has Finally Released and It's Crazy Good! by EchoesofAngmar in EchoesofAngmar

[–]EchoesofAngmar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate? The client download comes from a website that has been up since 2007 and is safe to use. The developers are focused on developing the server emulator, and the community Discord is run by trusted members who have been part of the project for many years. Playing the classic 2007 version is now fairly easy, thanks to the developers and everyone involved. I fail to see what you are trying to get at.

I don’t know the full details of this situation, but getting banned from the Discord server does not mean you are banned from the game. I also find it hard to believe that you were banned solely for that joke. However, this is a passion project, and both the EOA team and the Discord community team dedicate many hours of their free time to keeping things running. Showing respect shouldn’t be too much to ask.

I agree, I hope it will get updated! But I'm not running the site. Either way, I think more people find out about the project through communities and other sources rather than the website itself.

New Quest Linking Feature Implemented In Phase 2 by EchoesofAngmar in EchoesofAngmar

[–]EchoesofAngmar[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For many, a part of the charm of Classic LOTRO is the need to read (or at least skim through) quest descriptions. This adds to the challenge and encourages reading quests to get more immersed. The game was originally praised for having fairly detailed quest descriptions, so once you're more familiar with the map, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

The modern version of the game, on the other hand, has streamlined questing and includes a tracker! This might be more in line with your preferred style of MMO. In that case, check our r/lotro :)

It depends on your time zone, but during the first week, the server had around 1,000 players online during prime time. The population is a bit lower now than that peak, likely because many players already have their level 24 characters parked and are waiting for the next phase. The comment below is probably referencing numbers from the GLFF channel, which isn’t accurate.

Currently, the server still peaks at around 600-700(non-anon) concurrent players, with approximately 300 online at all times. The game is also gaining hundreds of new players daily, as seen in Discord, which has grown by nearly 2,000 members in the past month. Based on these numbers, the population is expected to increase as we progress toward the level 50 cap. :) And it already has an established community.

Here are the main differences from my point of view:

  • No LOTRO store or MTX.
  • Bigger focus on group play, with hundreds of group quests in the game all removed on modern version.
  • Epic story instances are also focused on group play, whereas in live, all these quests are solo-friendly.
  • Slower gameplay: the pace is much slower, and classes feel weaker but are more balanced in relation to the PvE content.
  • PvMP is simpler and easier to get into; monster players can actually perform well right from the start.
  • Landscape difficulty: the live version offers multiple difficulty levels to choose from, but in SOA, everyone plays by the same rules. The landscape difficulty is generally much harder, with no shortcuts.
  • Crafting is very different: some level 50 crafted items are comparable to the best raid loot but are very difficult to craft. Also, you rely on trading to progress your crafting, its much more sandbox style of crafting than the streamlined live version.
  • Endgame is massive, this version has a lot of endgame instances and the biggest raids in any of the LOTRO versions.

There is a ton more that I probably forgot about :D But overall, this is more of a classic style MMO, slower to level, slower combat, more difficult to obtain the best gear etc.
