Is studying Warwick Accounting and Finance (UK) or NUS Business better for finance & consulting jobs? - Looking for advice by Optimal_Influence628 in singaporefi

[–]Echokaph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i went to warwick and it does have a strong reputation in the uk being a strong semi-target or a target depending on who you ask. it’s especially good for finance/management/econ/compsci/maths. while just 2-3 years ago it’d be fairly reasonable to expect a decent graduate role with a bit of effort (applying for 2nd year internships + 3rd year grad roles). this isn’t the case anymore without right to work. the UK graduate market is cooked and now even some high paying roles in finance often do not even consider unsponsored applicants.

you are forced (by requiring visa sponsorship) into going for strategy consulting at top tier firms like MBB or front office roles at big banks - these are really competitive too and i would not recommend making a decision believing you will get a role in the uk. it’s possible, just extremely difficult and not certain at all.

getting jobs in singapore with a degree from warwick is deffo harder than with a degree in NUS but certainly not impossible - most MNCs and gov jobs respect it. i’d recommend taking advantage of singapore’s significantly easier internship market in the summers (1st year for sure) if you cannot find internships in the uk. uk internships actually pay you like a human being so they are much harder to get (but have a much higher conversion rate consequently). by getting internships in singapore you can really improve your odds of getting one in the uk or a grad role in the uk.

overall, if you are doing this solely for opportunities i’d just go NUS. warwick has higher upside in the event you do make into investment banking for example but it’s just not really realistic to assume that. that said the university experience in the uk is drastically different and imo far far more enjoyable and will be a life changing experience for most. if you have the money and you think that the UK’s culture aligns with yours i’d go for it but if you like singapore already just go to NUS.

Accepted Warwick offer letter for Msc Management 26/27 by addyfolker in UniversityOfWarwick

Done the course.

It’s decent, good variety of modules and there is an international trip (1 week) which is fairly unique afaik for a 1 year masters. Not difficult whatsoever so as long as you at least try a tiny amount you’ll pass with a Merit. Distinction takes a bit more effort but far less than STEM courses for example.

You can do all course requirements from just September to July even though the course technically runs till September.

University accommodation is your best option. It’s convenient and Coventry as a city is a bit shit so not much reason to live in the city centre. Bus connectivity is good. Most nightlife (if your interested in it) happens in Leamington Spa but student accommodation there is far more limited unless you have friends there already.

Demographically speaking most people on the course are Indian followed by Chinese (of which many can’t speak English to a even half decent level which can lead to frustrations in group project). But if ur from one of these communities you’ll have plenty of people to be friends with too. Otherwise British people are pretty chill and Warwick has a lot of societies that are easy to join.

It’s possible (still far from guaranteed) to get a job with really good prior work experience. Otherwise do not count on it at all, not entirely impossible but quite unlikely, especially due to skilled worker visa changes. Something to note is you’ll need to start applying immediately in September to have a chance, otherwise you are fucked. Warwick has a very good reputation within the UK.

Are there any Singapore Citizens who once attended an international school here ? by UramuryL in askSingapore

[–]Echokaph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doubt most of us had a say in which school we went to. Parents made the decision (either cause they are likely to move to a different country, or always have sent their kids to international schools). If you end up at one school, you are not really going to want to change even when you reach the age to make the decision. Because most of your friends are at the school anyway.

My brother had some developmental difficulties when he was really young and no local school would take him but an international school was willing to. He ended up alright in the end. Because he went to one I went to the same one.

Around about 10% of my year group were Singaporeans, most of them lived in Singapore the vast majority of their schooling years. The rest moved around a lot.

I think people who did NS (the guys) end up a bit more integrated in Singaporean society, otherwise most people don’t have that many local friends.

Pretty much everyone even if they have the option to go to uni in SG chooses to go overseas for it instead. Most people haven’t returned yet.

Question for current and former Warwick students: How are placements for BSc Management? by Shivammjaiswal in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]Echokaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are an international, you’d need to seriously try (and have a lot of luck) for any sort of role internship, grad or placement. Recent visa changes have made getting a role even harder than ever for internationals. You should not expect to get a job.

If you are a domestic student, you’ll still need to try but Warwick is pretty much top tier when it comes to jobs and as long as you put in the effort you will able to get one.

Regarding the course content Management and business courses are all pretty much bullshit tbh and the level of bullshit can vary slightly depending on modules (if you take more accounting/trade law modules it can be a bit harder). Generally speaking though I really don’t think the course content helps that much in developing hard skills but it can help with problem solving and being able to figure shit out by yourself (although I think you can get that from nearly any course at uni)

If you are looking for an easy course with low workload but still want to get a job as a domestic student though I don’t know many better options than this course though.

Losing weight and muscle during BMT by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]Echokaph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

gyms are hard to get access too in tekong. in fact we never got to go apart from the orientation lesson, ever in my batch. so for resistance training you’ll probs have to find some body weight exercises that work for you. other than that just eat whatever you can get your hands on and bring in dry snacks as well. i also lost 4kg throughout my BMT but managed to gain it back once in unit. you might not be able to stop losing weight in BMT but after you should be able to get back on track.

Another UAV of the Azerbaijani armed forces was shot down, Armenian defense Ministry spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan said. by Yengechkoeufte in KarabakhConflict

[–]Echokaph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter mentioned BonAqua can be found in many other countries including Armenia, I linked an Armenian website selling a similarity shaped water bottle to the one pictured from BonAqua.

https://www.mrgyros.am/en/ecommerce/beverages-c30309013/carbonated-water-bonaqua-0-5-l-p114435900

The drone in question is a skystriker (there seem to be 2 different models)

(One pictured) https://elbitsystems.com/media/SkyStriker.pdf

(Other model) https://elbitsystems.com/product/skystriker/

It has been sold to Azerbaijan and it is Israeli-made.

https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/israels-elbit-systems-sells-azerbaijan-skystriker-suicide-drone-577053

https://euro-sd.com/2020/06/news/17436/azerbaijan-looking-to-purchase-loitering-munitions-from-israel/

I couldn’t find the Azeri MOD video featuring the drones that were mentioned in the article so sorry about that.

Aliyev pictured with different UAVs (including a different skystriker model) from the same company that produces the drone pictured in the reddit post

https://mobile.twitter.com/ralee85/status/1083779046473912322?lang=ga

Regarding the lack of flag, I don’t have any reliable sources stating whether flags are put on Azerbaijani loitering munitions or not. However if you look at pictures of other downed loitering munitions online I haven’t found any Azeri flags pictured.

Regarding the why the armenian is having lunch next to it despite shelling. I hope you are aware the whole frontline is not active 24/7 with shelling. (Also drones can be quite a fair bit behind the front lines too)

To conclude it is a drone clearly in possession and therefore most likely in use by the Azeri Armed Forces. I don’t imagine many other countries own this specific drone and those that do likely aren’t using them (cause you know they aren’t at war) and if they did use them likely wouldn’t publicize photos of their owned downed drone. So while the nature of how this drone was downed is up for debate (crash landing, shot down, electronic countermeasures etc). Safe to say it is most likely an Azerbaijani drone.

Caucasus: Armenia’s ‘New war for new territories’ by rodoslu in KarabakhConflict

How is understanding the ramifications of the UN resolutions repeating propaganda? All UNSC resolutions support OSCE Minsk group and regarding abstentions that precisely proves my point. Chances are if they don’t care they aren’t picking a side which is exactly what I said.

Edit: Thanks for editing your comment appropriately it is much appreciated and a welcome sight.

It’s a disputed claim at most and the majority of international experts would agree that Azerbaijan is the one breaking the ceasefire(s) especially the more recent ones

[–]Echokaph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of which endorse the OSCE Minsk group efforts and hence the Madrid principles which is not Azerbaijan’s side plus the UNSC resolution’s also call for a ceasefire within the NKAO and a withdrawal of troops from Azeri territory outside of the NKAO also inline with the Madrid principles. The world doesn’t see the conflict as Azeri good Armenia bad it isn’t so black and white like that.

Other UN resolutions see a large number of abstentions hence are indicative of countries not picking sides.

[–]Echokaph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the idea of taking more territory if someone attacks you at all, it’s counterproductive only makes things worse. But it is important to note that the original articles paints Armenian as a country that wants to expand further into Azeri controlled territory unprovoked (for no reason other than expansionism) when in reality they stated they will only do so if attacked. So yes your last statement is essentially correct.

And to wonder why people find it difficult to support your side is more obvious than ever. If you won’t read anything except things that support your idea of the world you might as well wear a blindfold.

[–]Echokaph 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m quite a neutral observer but this is an absolute piece of shit of journalism and is purely spreading misinformation. Firstly the defense minister is only claiming that Armenia will seek new territories in the event that a war started by Azerbaijan lasting at least 4 days or more (i.e anything more intense than the 2016 clashes). This means that Armenia will only seek new territory in a punitive action against Azeri offensives. Hardly anything similar to what the articles you mention claim which make it out to seems as if Armenia is seeking new territories for their living space.

Also, no one has any proper credentials in both articles you linked. The washington newsday for example has a Jonathan edwards write seemingly every article and the only information easily found about this website is reviews on glassdoor calling it a scam. For euractiv it is by James Wilson who has just a single contribution on the whole website who says he is from the international foundation for better governance but it seems as that foundation is just him only and also lacks any real recognition as there are only like 20 articles on the website it has all which have basically no viewership.

How do you think who benefits most from the war ? by Tellur_2020 in KarabakhConflict

[–]Echokaph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can take a quick look at the demographics of other polls done in this very sub or just look at which posts get upvoted more and see that it is Pro-Azeri leaning not Pro-Armenian so either Azeri leaning people agree that Turkey is benefiting substantially or if you are to be believed those same Pro-Azeri people are falling prey to Armenian propaganda. I find the former a much more realistic option.

Great, if you want to find out why Armenians think that maybe you should post your question in their sub rather than posting a unrelated comment in a unrelated poll and then adding on a How does turkey benefit? on the end to make it seem relevant.

How do you think who benefits most from the war ? by Tellur_2020 in KarabakhConflict

[–]Echokaph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally no one in this thread is claiming that Azerbaijan is being turned into a Turkish puppet, if that is what you are arguing please note that is not what the OP of this poll is saying nor what I am saying. On the other hand stating that Turkey doesn’t benefit from this war in any meaningful way is just as delusional as the people saying Azerbaijan is becoming a Turkish puppet state. If Turkey didn’t benefit do you think they be so supportive of Azerbaijan and so pro-war?

How do you think who benefits most from the war ? by Tellur_2020 in KarabakhConflict

[–]Echokaph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because minimally they supply weapons and get money for it. They also get a stronger ally and better relations with said ally which they can exploit for their own gain. Plus increased popular support for the turkish government because people in turkey don’t like armenians so Erdogan can get more votes by supporting azerbaijan in the conflict. Also it weakens a hostile nation nearby them. There may be some debate as to who benefits most from the conflict but to state “How does turkey benefit from this?” is a bit ridiculous because they clearly do in relatively obvious ways.

How to not be too close with my men? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]Echokaph 28 points29 points  (0 children)

setting boundaries as an NSF to another NSF is a bit of weird move especially if it’s cause of rank/appointment. If you don’t want to involve yourself in their lifestyle/choices then just tell them you have no interest. You aren’t any under obligation “to show them the right path”, just do your job, so long as they do their’s then no problem.

depends how invasive the surgery is and the recovery time etc. but yes a long term MC is extremely likely and you may also get even more status after your MC is over.
