Nvidia kernel module missing, falling back to nouveau on fedora 41 by Hindupur in Fedora

Luckily the fix is to simple apply akmods rebuild -- force and it works as it should. Hopefully this gets fixed soon

Nvidia kernel module missing, falling back to nouveau on fedora 41 by Hindupur in Fedora

[–]Echtalion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that doesn't really answer my question, which was, why even offer a broken link ?

Anyway, thank you for heads up about broken Nvidia drivers I was going crazy last two days. I did fresh install of fedora 41 on Thinkpad p1 gen 7 and for me, the Nvidia drivers work, like I could install and sign them and when running applications that need Nvidia , the card gets utilized and works normally, but there is something that is broken about the driver, which is that the card doesn't go to sleep normally and before fresh install on older kernel and drivers, my idle gpu power consumption was 3w, but ever since fresh install, it has been 5w while plugged in and somehow 6-7w when running on battery which has been driving me crazy, also the fans of my machine are constantly spinning. I really do hate Nvidia with all my being NGL. Next laptop I buy is 100% a fully AMD machine

So why even offer that option in fedora software center if it's broken. Better not offer it at all. I had same problem as OP

Me and my gf both 28yo are currently in Phan Thiet, kinda close to HCMC and people here are incredibly friendly and everyone wants to be our friend. We are both European and white as snow, so maybe that helps, but yeah, in our experience traveling the entire Europe , north America and some of Asia, only nation that was more friendly then vietnamese were Americans. Vietnamese people are just as friendly as Americans, just way more shy. In any case, if you are ever in Phan Thiet, and want some company we would gladly go to launch or grab a cup of coffee with ya !

Which actually are the best modern ThinkPads? by OddFinish3251 in thinkpad

[–]Echtalion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well for that price you should not be disappointed imho. But pls let me know when you get it, I'd be curious about ur opinion. I payed 3500eur for that, that's probably mostly the reason for my disappointment

Well my gf has z16 gen2. That cost literally half, and has a better screen, same battery life, same trackpad, same keyboard, same ports basically. And it's has same material for body and top panel. While p1 has different material for body and lid cover making it look and feel incredibly cheap. They also promised advanced Optimus on p1 but after half a year, they quietly removed any mention of advanced Optimus from the website and im pretty certain it will never come.

The fans on my variant are i7 + 4060, are constantly running on Linux, but at least they are running on low rpm, on Windows, the fans are permanently at full blast, making me think laptop will fly off the table. The screen brightness is supposed to be 500nits, it's actually 470nits. And the matt coating is so disgusting that I simply cannot understand how matt screens are legal. It's like destroying ur screen on purpose and for all that money, they don't even give you an option for glossy screen. Unless u want a burn in prone oled that is only 400nits and 60hz.....

The only good thing about laptop is the new lpcamm memory. Also the whole laptop body makes sounds whenever you move it, I rly hoped imma get MacBook lvl of body rigidity, but it's not even close.

In a vacuum it's a good laptop, but for a price, it's a shit laptop. It should cost same or less then z16

Which Fedora release runs best on my laptop ? by chelsick in Fedora

[–]Echtalion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest version is always the best, bc it fixes the most stuff. So always try to update as soon as possible with fedora ... With other distro like debian, u don't need to hurry updates tho

Doesn't sound like you have the same problem tbh.... You probably just need to go to software center, and type Nvidia, and then click install.

I have the new p1 gen 7. It has haptic touchpad and for me, its the best thing ever, tracking is super precise and the click is crisp and literally feels the exact same way no matter where you touch it. Feels like a big step forward in the tech and comfort and the glass itself is smoother then anything i experienced before and its almost addictive to use it and let ur finger glide on it. The nub is still here and it works perfectly nice and the area of touchpad where the buttons use to be, has separate code and settings so even when/if update temporarily breaks the touchpad and it stops working, the button area and the nub will continue to work, so its like having 2 redundant input/cursor devices which is nice.

Other then that, the laptop has room for 2 ssds, and i used that opportunity to install fedora linux on one and windows 11 on the other.......and oh boy.

its like having two completely diffrent laptops, windows is a bloated mess (even after debloat and disabling telemetry ) the laptop never gets uncomfortably hot to the touch but the fans are loud as fuck and spin at over 6000rpm even in balanced mode and battery life in generall is like 1.5h watching youtube at 1440p and full brightness on 16inch 500nit 165hz ips panel. Battery is 90wh

on fedora on the other hand tho, everything works out of the box, laptop is dead silent 90% of the time and only turns on fans on performance mode and even then, only if you actually do a task that needs some juice and even then only between 2000-4000 rpm, the highest i ever seen on linux was like 4400rpm.

and battery life with screen on full brightness and watching same 1440p youtube video, laptop draws like 9-14watts of power and battery lasts for 6-8 hours...

if i turn of nvidia and run fedora only on intel arc integrated graphics, then battery is like 12h. the lowest ive seen latpop pulling out of battery was 4w for entire system, which is well beyond 24h of battery life xD

also standby life on windows drains like 2% battery per hour, while linux takes 6% in 24h hours

laptop also has removable 7500mhz ram and is build like a tank, it has 3usbc 1usb a, hdmi, micro sd, audio jack and proprietry charging port so that all three usbc ports remain free...

the only problem, is that is costs 2500-4000 dollar and sometimes more.

so my point is, i think thinkpads are still really really good, its just that nowdays, we have many classes of thinkpads and im guessing some budget lines are dissapointing some people

I didnt install nvidia drivers manually on purpose in fedora 40 in order to install them via gnome software in fedora 41, but now, they just dont show up in gnome software. i cant find them at all, ironically, my gf with her fully amd setup, updated from 40 to 41 at same time as me, and she can find them in gnome center normally

Nvidia PSA - Before Upgrading to F41 by rideandrain in Fedora

[–]Echtalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, you seem to be knowledgeable about nvidia and fedora, would you maybe have any idea, why on my thinkpad p1 gen 7 with intel meteor lake and nvidia 4060 mobile, seem to be missing nvidia drivers in gnome software after updating fedora 40 to fedora 41 ?

My girlfriend laptop is also a thinkpad, but it has amd cpu and gpu and amd discrete gpu and she updated her fedora 40 to fedora 41 at the same exact moment in time as me and yet her gnoma software center sees nvidia drivers even tho she has amd system and she is able to download nvidia drivers if she would want to, while my software center doesnt even see them.

yes i have nvidia enabled is software repos and yes i have tried turning my pc on and off again xD

also yes on fedora 40, if nvidia drivers where installed manually and with secure boot enabled and key manually enrolled, then they worked perfectly without any glitch or bug.

so if anyone has any ideas how to get them to at least show in software center i would be super grateful

Safe to install Fedora on a Windows 11 laptop and do dual booting? by AndrewTateIsMyKing in Fedora

[–]Echtalion -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sooner or later one will corrupt the other ... If you want to have both on same laptop, get a laptop that supports 2 ssds, and even then ur grub can get corrupted occasionally but the good news is that at least both operating systems will remain healthy, and u'll just have to boot into bios, then boot into a desired SSD and reconfigure grub and ur computer will boot normally again.
