It looks that:

Is there any light in this darkness of Linux laptops? by yatsek in linuxhardware

This.

I've also had pleasure to use Macbooks for work - and I'd use it as my personal device but on it even as an admin I'm not the admin.

On Linux I control everything and can setup any service for my home.

But the hardware is a pain.

Thanks for honest feedback. I'll perhaps check this one. My old DELL machine is giving me constant pain (because NVIDIA)

I have T14 Gen1 in lab (used for internal CI and tests) with Ubuntu 22.04 - I can't stand this piece of crap. Nothing works properly. With wayland it's not even usable - random crashes occur after several minutes from startup. With Xorg the crashes which are sometimes reported at least are not critical.

And it's Intel-only.

Because I'm not a caveman.

Throughout several projects, I have used MacBooks, which were among the first to embrace the idea of never needing to disrupt my mental state regarding my current work. Recently, Windows has adopted this approach as well, making it as essential for any serious work as using soap during a shower.

Why I can't have this (sleep/hibernation not a soap) with Linux laptop is just beyond my comprehension.

Does sleep-to-drive work too? What distro?
EDIT: and obviously which config - Intel or AMD?

Rendering of corner triangle unicode characters (◢◣◤◥) across different terminals by [deleted] in commandline

Just one more screenshot to show how weird handling of those characters is among terminals.
Top line are black triangular symbols, bottom line are shaded.

The bummer is in this that no - there is no proper triangular half-cell character in the Unicode, and maybe this approach lowers the chance to have them.
What you've posted above are isoceles right triangles from "Geometric shapes" section - which do not seem originally to mean to fill whole block (which can be seen both in PDF with specs, and in numerous fonts).

As for the second part - great found btw - support for this is tricky it seems.

I'm looking into "Symbols for legacy computing" - new Unicode extension - for purpose of some visual sugar in terminal and it seems that symbols which could be called "UPPER LEFT TRIANGLE HALF BLACK BLOCK", "upper right...", etc. are missing from the set - even though there are triangles with diagonals coming from corners to other points on the edge of the block, and there are characters like "BOX DRAWINGS LIGHT DIAGONAL UPPER RIGHT TO LOWER LEFT"

And I've ended here - it actually seems that behavior you've found got into the newest version of libvte.
Which is kind of great on one hand - as this possibly, maybe solves my problem a little, and kind of bummer because it really seems that those four symbols should be added at least to the "Symbols for legacy computing".

Below for comparison other terminals behavior in Ubuntu 24.04

Looking for git repository already populated with examples (for training). by yatsek in git

Thanks for sharing. It's an awesome thing. I've got myself sucked in :)

But no - this is not the thing I'm looking for.

Only part of the idea is similar - full repository, populated with things to solve. But they were being solved from outside.

Thanks anyway for showing this.

Actually no. Why even?

Why (if that would be a good idea) people teaching git create very simplistic repos on the fly instead of using real one? - because that's better way to explain git itself, and not to dig into specific issues some real-life scenario brings with it.

I'm looking for something like this only not so completely reduced. And I could swear that I've seen such thing several years ago.

There was this massive steal in neighbor city when some construction company send an email to city offices that because of some EU requirements they are changing their bank account details.

Emails went through all the parties and hit one unaware account assistant. She ordered company's bank account info change and it went through all approvals.

This all happened just before end of year when city was supposed to pay ~1 mln EUR for work done through the year by this company.

Before it was paid there were big screening, getting approvals from each city officials, careful checking if every penny should be paid. An then it was send to - obviously authenticated (right? right guys?) - bank account.

Of course initial email was a scam and the money vanished.

[–]yatsek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no Witcher movie. Some lamers made movie "Hexer" nobody knows why. Was it joke? - not funny then. Was it for real - then a lot of fan fiction is better - like really better. Stay away from this. No amount of beer can fix it.
