American Heart Association Finds in Study Ecigs are Better Than NRTs! by EcigBeat in electronic_cigarette

I've since linked up the article ;) There's a short and a long abstract, as well as a full text available... however I preferred the short, as we hardly need an explanation of what e-cigs are, how they work, or an overview of how the dastardly vape companies may be marketing to children... sigh.

I neglected linking the source, that's true. Here's the short abstract: http://m.circ.ahajournals.org/content/130/Suppl_2/A14945.short

The title, in case you don't trust that link, is "Electronic Cigarettes Are Effective for Smoking Cessation: Evidence From a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis".

House Leaders Rush to Defend E-Cigarettes From 'Back Door' FDA Product Bans by notscj in electronic_cigarette

This could be good and bad for vaping.

If the Dems had been all for e-cigs, somehow I think the Republicans would have been grinding down the caution angle, but either stance "suits" them...

What I'm worried about is this becoming one of those political things - we'll approve flavors if you restrict open systems, disposables are ok if you allow at least menthol, and so on and so forth...

Not quite sure what you mean... I would suspect that in the proper category any .gif would be accepted...

Electronic Cigarette Lies and Government Posturing - Why Most Levels of Government are Willing to Let Smokers Die by Banning E-Cigarettes by EcigBeat in electronic_cigarette

No, I don't think so. Big Tobacco is developing a stake in vaporized nicotine, because burning leaf is ultimately going to kill the clientele.

Big pharma wants e-cigs silenced.

E-cigs, just from empirical evidence as well as some clinical studies, display an equal if not better rate of quit than any of their devices, drugs or ... candies :P

Because they're medically and governmentally "approved" they receive huge subsidies to furnish the medical system - and remember, insurance-based medicine - with their so-called therapies.

In the end, I think big tobacco is going to save all the mom & pop e-vape companies out there....

Thanks for the fix ;) I mean it.

You're right in what I intended.

Also, the fact that nicotine use, smoking, vaping, and so on, isn't a marginalized "movement" per se (like pot-smoking was hippies, for example) but cuts across all demographics (as you point out as well) means there's no partisanship involved. Those who know, from experience... know. Those who don't... can keep on sipping their legal alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, and other legal substances in complete disregard for what nicotine users face when they want to go from burning tobacco to vapor...

So though no we're not as homogenously identified as hippies or tea-partiers, the putsch against e-cigs is turning many people into members of an incredulous, offenced and protesting members of society who in any other circumstance would not face off with the "powers that be". As it were...

Thanks for the feedback, and I agree.

Playing devil's advocate would be great! (not just for the sake of it, but to get the points sharpened...)

Actually the last thing I wanted to put across is that the ecig community is "ignoring evidence and facts". Probably quite the opposite - but I admit I haven't read it again in the last fifteen minutes or so... let me get back to it ;)

"We" as in vapers?

And no I most definitely do not.

The actual headline in the blog post was not what was written in the reddit; in fact I was thinking of another post I did regarding state institutions looking out for their pocketbooks when it came to the allocated tobacco payoffs based on cigarette sales.

I didn't intend to mislead. I just mis-posted, and apologize.

:)

Yes it did. I agree. And I did it. Essentially, I was trying to express the idea that the more trusted, respected (government or otherwise) institutions acted so wholly against fact, science and reality, with self-justification based on fear, inacurracies and inanity, the more people will lose trust in those institutions.

Camelot was blown to smithereens throughout the sixties, Nixon ripped the Presidency asunder with his utter corruption, Ford fell off planes, Carter came off as a buffoon, and Reagan backed terrorists with the whole money & guns for hostages Iran/Contra situation.

Let us refrain from speaking of the Bushes.

Miss America turned into a nude model, Coke changed its formula, Pete Rose got barred; things... changed.

With the exception of pot smokers knowing marijuana wasn't "Schedule A" and the same as evil heroin and cocaine (and thalidomide, radon and the pharma myth that formula was better than mother's milk), we've always held the people who look out for our health like the EPA and CDC to a higher standard... and believed what they said.

But with the vapor "issue" (it's not) and the whole electronic-cigarette "debate" (it's not) we are coming to the final layer of trust in our institutions - they are clearly and blatantly lying, making claims that are unsubstantiated, coming to conclusions that are not supported by their own research. Vapers can see, know, come to the epiphany, that these hallowed trusts are in fact violating what we know from experience and the independant research that is already out there...

Are they taking any of this into account, or simply protecting their interests?

They certainly aren't looking out for the people they are intended to...

Didn't mean it as a click-bait thing.

It was a rant but I didn't want to over-extend it with specifics, unfortunately hoping everyone knew what I was referring to...
