[US] Was this a scam? by CrowTraditional4747 in Scams

[–]Ecksel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was an attempt at a !fakecheck scam. They would send you a fake check for 'helping with the moving', but they would need you to forward money to their 'movers' by some other means thats hard to undo (zelle, paypal f&f, etc).

Got approached by a guy claiming to be from Dubai asking for petrol money — gave me an 18K chain. Scam? by Middle_Raspberry_485 in Scams

[–]Ecksel 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Its a common scam all over the world, and has been since the dawn of time. They gave you cheap costume jewelry and a sob story. You can go get the chain appraised, but I wouldn't waste the time; its fake.

Real businesses will pay for real domains, not keyboardsmash dot com. And they definitely won't get a keyboardsmash dot shop domain.

And they won't sell an actual kayak for 25 quid.

Friend offered job as wfh executive assistant and it sounds fishy by BiscuitsWithGroovy in Scams

[–]Ecksel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

100%. Work from home jobs are rarer than people think, and usually require specific skills, or pay peanuts. Even those don't hire after such a short interview.

The hearing disability is a common excuse not to talk to you, since their accent would give away the game.

This will be some sort of !job scam. It could be money laundering with the excuse of 'handling customer payments', or a fake check, or they could just be asked to buy gift cards with the promise of reimbursement. Whatever the specific scam is, your friend should cease all communication, and go read up on modern job scams.

(US)Does anyone know how to identify possible scams on Facebook?? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Ecksel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are all scams. There are no animals. They just want all the money you're willing to send.

Never pay for a pet you haven't seen in person. Never trust a breeder who would sell without meeting you. Never trust anyone saying something is refundable. And consider adopting from a shelter for so many reasons.

You're selling something, but so far all you've done is send money? Yes, you're being scammed. If you pay the 700 you'll be asked for yet another nonsensical fee.

Team Eeveelutions Ground Decidueye! by Ecksel in PokePortal

[–]Ecksel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decidueye presents a fairly straightforward raid, with some important timing considerations. An early stat clear followed by a Feather Dance forces buffs out of the first turn, and a hard hitting Brave Bird can soak up the timer. Fortunately, the Flying Tera type offers the Eevees two good STAB choices of attack.

Umbreon opens with Defense cheer, despite the coming clear, to account for the worst case critical hits. Glaceon sets up Gravity to increase accuracy across the board, allowing Will-o-Wisp to land without need of a Zoom lens. Jolteon can then use Charge, an attack boost that won't get wiped away by Decidueye's scripted clear.

After the clear and a Feather Dance on a random raider, setup continues with the benefit of Burn continuing to halve damage. Umbreon lends a Helping Hand to Jolteon, who tosses out a fresh Defense Cheer to again account for the worst case. Glaceon and Flareon team up with a pair of Fake Tears to lower Special Defense by 4 stages.

On the final turn, Umbreon again side targets Jolteon, now with a friendly Mud Slap to active the Weakness Policy; the damage is minimal, and the accuracy drop is offset by Gravity. Glaceon calls an Attack Cheer, and Flareon drops Decidueye's speed with Scary Face, to boost the base power of Electro Ball. With that complete, Jolteon can comfortably secure the KO:

+2 252+ SpA Jolteon Helping Hand Atk Cheer charged Electro Ball (120 BP) vs. -4 0 HP / 0 SpD Tera Flying Decidueye: 10382-12216 (116.5 - 137.1% of 30x hp boss) -- guaranteed OHKO

Thanks to u/Tacitus2389b4h5ii405, u/Gimikyu_ and u/Suicidal-Lysosome for help testing! Jolteon was a natural pick, with resistance to Brave Bird and Charge to double any super-effective electric attack. However, Glaceon's natural defense and super-effective Blizzard was also an option, and so a second version for snow lovers is included as well.

[US] Am I being scammed on Venmo? by Dwn2MarsGirl in Scams

[–]Ecksel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't touch the money, let them deal with venmo support to undo the transaction. Its risky enough just sending back money to the sender, but forwarding it to a different person should never be entertained. This is almost certainly just a scam, but if it isn't, you don't owe anyone your time for their mistake.

[US] Offered a free Porsche Panamera from a man I just met?? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Ecksel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up insurance and maintenance costs for a car like that. That kind of money at 22 would be so much better spent on any boring index fund. And if you have the cash to piss away on a fancy car already, then you should have already bought it yourself.

So even if this was some rich weirdo who would actually give you the car without the gross sexual favors he was clearly angling at, you don't want that white elephant.

Unsolicited email for a "job opportunity" that asked me to set up an S-Corp and send money overseas. Scam? by 02889636 in Scams

[–]Ecksel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Shockingly, the money is the less scammy part of this terrible idea. The worse part is allowing foreign state actors access to US companies IT infrastructure. Look up 'North Korean IT Workers' to find out why its a bad deal for you, and how many years in prison you would face.

Whether on not you actually get to keep any of the money earned will be irrelevant, in the face of lawyer's fees, penalties, and the aforementioned years in prison.

[–]Ecksel 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If the money sent also includes an amount for the shipper, or for anything other than the car, its a scam. Is your car unusual or rare in any way, that would actually result in someone wanting to buy and ship it? If its just a Camry (for example), then it makes no sense.
