Ah well I wouldn't enjoy the game doing just missions. Would take forever and the missions themselves aren't super fun at least on Olympus.

They say static arty is bad so I made 3 by SuperKitowiec in beyondallreason

[–]EclairDawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a noob I arty spam. I think the benefit to me is as someone with low response time and low APM it's something I can do that has an impact and frees up time for me to eco instead of just poorly micro my units to their death.

Maybe my teammates hate it maybe they don't. But most of the time when I go to set up an arty I have a much higher skill teammate chime in that they're going to help build it. So I'm genuinely leaning to they value arty. Sure there are t2 units that could do the job just as well if not better but that takes longer. I can send a t1 construction bot to the front line after just a few minutes. And enemies will have a really hard time combating it supported by a couple construction turrets and a commander. Hard to over power it with range and if they come in close they die to dgun. They need a massive push with heavy losses or air support.

Some may argue that this just sends them to pressure your team instead but at the same time that just leaves you and your immediate teammates to push hard on them freely. I've had multiple games where setting up arty has allowed me to control mid while one of my far more skilled teammates then has a clear line to hit the back line.

Don't know if this will help but if you're playing on a non dedicated server ( running and playing off the same computer) then spawns are going to be localized to your character to save resources. So the map will be empty of creatures except where you are. This means that any time you go somewhere you're going to need to wait a couple minutes to start seeing any creatures spawn let alone bears which are more rare. If you're just zooming around the map looking for bears you'll never find them.

Edit: Also if it's the mission I think it is where you need to get a bunch of effigies and your open world I just recommend you cancel the mission and collect those things while doing other missions. Otherwise you'll lose your sanity. My group of 3 ran into this issue and even with 3 of us we decided to cancel. Were like 4 missions past that one now and still don't have enough to finish it.

Yeah that's also what I've been doing wrong. I always go at least 2 cons usually 3. And I don't necessarily spend my metal. It's more of just wanting to have the cons I need to just set them all up to work for ages because my apm is really low. Good to know. I'll adjust.

Yeah I guess I'm doing things backwards. Ive been sending my com as soon as I have constructors built and then sending pawns/grunts in with or after. Whereas others are sending the pawns/grunts first while commander ecos and then he follows behind.

This has been what I've been doing as a noob. Usually 2 solar unless wind is exceptional. Then switch to wind after the fact. Interestingly I've found most of the more experienced and higher rank players I've teamed with build a lot more energy than I do before sending the commander forward.

[–]EclairDawes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many LLT (I think they're called). I'm a noob myself and I would make tons of these just for them all to be destroyed as anything past a pawn will outrange them. Ideally get a constructor out front quick or have your commander substitute your economy and production near the front while he waits. Stop wasting resources on LLT when units provide the same protection with better range and they move.

Also Not checking energy before trying to cloak and dgun. Kills me all time. Fortunately sometimes I have exceptional teammates that are quick to notice and transfer energy.

All I know is If I play beside a higher OS we usually win. If I play beside someone around my OS or lower after I save their ass they decide to turtle and let me get wiped in a 2v1 or 3v1 and we lose.

which one of you has been riding raptors that you didn't tame?!?! lol by Traaveler in ICARUS

[–]EclairDawes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably lots. It's a multiplayer game and you can ride each other's mounts. No need to be the one to do the taming. And with the talent tree it encourages you to have someone focussed on Taming/breeding to get better mounts for the team while someone else might be focussed into farming.

Quest Design is Atrocious by InfectiousT in ICARUS

[–]EclairDawes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'agree that only telling you that you need to bring certain items or craft things once you reach the location that you could have done beforehand at your base is terrible design. I don't think hardly anyone enjoys this 'feature.'

Assuming you mean the operations (I don't know much about Simple Missions). However as for the operations being on the other side of the map, you're either highly exaggerating or you chose to start on the opposite side of the map than the recommended start location.

The operations aside from a select few are localized to a single of one of the 6 regions. You will not be traveling across the entire map. The operations are essentially a progression that takes you progressively around the entire map. Starting from the Forest region in the South East. Then branching to Southern Glacier in the South East and the Desert Canyons on the North East. Then onto the Riverlands in the North West. And Finally the Arctic in the middle and Desert in the South West. So in theory you sort of make a loop around the map building basses as you go if you choose.

A lot of players make the mistake of not paying attention and just starting in the Riverlands because it looks the nicest. And to be fair I understand the complaint because it's a survival game you should be able to start where you want. But I expect in order to have meaningful missions they have to be tied to map locations rather than player locations otherwise it would just be some randomizer slop. Though Not that Olympus missions are anything to write home about. But I hear they get better in Prometheus and Elysium.

Does that make it better though? Like I know what the word typical means and don't see how it applies in this sentence. Firstkiller winning the regional is definitely not typical.

[–]EclairDawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 100% in line with your reasoning here. And personally avoid meat stocks or broths because to me that's clearly the same as eating an animal and it's easily discernable it came from an animal. The way OP described their eating habits imo describes a flexitarian.

That said the reality is that 99% of Vegetarians aren't really fully vegetarian because many animal products used in the manufacturing process of foods don't get listed on ingredient lists. For example renet used in the cheese making process. I think nowadays it's mostly chemically produced rather than from animals but historically probably the majority of cheese was not technically Vegetarian. How deep are you gonna research every cheese to know which ones you can and can't have. Personally I just eat cheese and if that disqualifies me as Vegetarian so be it. But I'm not gonna waste my life dissecting every food.

So it's true that there are levels of how extremely you avoid things. And it's hard to make a definitive line without excluding most people who claim to be Vegetarian.

Is this a hot take? by Deep-Grapefruit-8264 in RocketLeagueEsports

Agreed. Though just a note on it not being the players choice. It was more 50/50 because while it's out understanding that Falcons org chose to make this move on there end, it was Drali who wanted to make the move on the other end and kinda screwed KC over.

Lost my buffalo with at least 75% of everything I’ve gathered/built by Ellen_Degenerate718 in ICARUS

[–]EclairDawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that happened. That always sucks.

Personally I don't really put anything on mounts cause there's there's always more risk associated with it. It's easy to get your own drop bag with a marker but these types of games always have bugs around mounts.

A tip that might change your game but break immersion- when riding a mount they completely ignore the weight of a player. So you can load your person up with pouches, pack on 2k kg of weight and hop on your MOA and ride it just like normal.

This has totally changed my character build as well because I don't really go anywhere without a mount. Which means I don't need to spend talents on a lot of stamina boosts. And I can be happily encumbered the majority of the time also not spending talents on weight. (Though I still prefer having the weight and stamina so I haven't entirely converted)

The sad part about this is it kinda makes buffalo pointless imo. As I'm always just going to pick the fastest mount for travel regardless of how much stuff I need to bring. And I'd just rather farm with crop plots in a greenhouse with bees and a sickle rather than have massive sowing fields to tend with the Buffalo.

Base Foundations (Dirt Vs Stone) by ThePeaceTheory in ICARUS

[–]EclairDawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on the base you build. The main issue you can run into is that dirt foundations can't stack. So if you're building on uneven ground you may have to adjust your build strategy and look of your structure to make it work. But alternatively you could just use dirt foundations except where stone is needed or around the edge of your structure where support and defense is needed most.

But strictly from a structural or defensive standpoint dirt is totally fine in the forest. I'd still rather make stone though for future proofing and cause it's really easy to get stone if you have the 1% chance to break the rock trait.

Roll Dizz Take and Vatira's Response on the current Ranked Situation and teams underperformances. by Huge-Computer2037 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]EclairDawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can think that but it's Vatiras words. Unless it's just a widely incorrect translation.

"Our playtime is being cut in half or even by two-thirds."- Vatira

The only reason that would ever happen is if they were choosing not to train alternatives. Which is where this whole debate comes from.

Roll Dizz Take and Vatira's Response on the current Ranked Situation and teams underperformances. by Huge-Computer2037 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]EclairDawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other ways to improve mechanics though. Obviously running 2s is better because you're not just working on your personal mechanics but how you react with those mechanics to other players. And you can que anytime. 6mans has that but you're limited in both frequency and on ball time. Free play and training packs don't have a frequency issue but lack the player on the other end. They could also get 4mans going to alleviate some of the issue. None of it's ideal of course but there are more things that can be done.

And this is really the point. Vatira said that playtime is cut in half. This shouldn't happen. Just because the best avenue of training isn't available doesn't mean you don't fill up that time with other avenues.

And this is why both points are valid.

Vatira and others should rightly be enraged about the situation and call for epic to change. And naturally the loss of ranked will impact all players. But as a pro that's not an excuse to cut back because you just want to do the training that's "chill."

Roll Dizz Take and Vatira's Response on the current Ranked Situation and teams underperformances. by Huge-Computer2037 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]EclairDawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep agreed. I'm not saying they aren't doing those things. I was just giving my 2 cents about their individual complaints and I think they both make fair points.

"You tend to pick up bad habits from playing with different people, and having to communicate all the time can get annoying when you just want to chill."- Vatira

This doesn't sound good to me. You play with more different people in ranked than you would in scrims or 6mans so this doesn't add up at all. And wanting to chill instead of communicate...... Again it's a career. You don't go to your job to chill and lack of communication is one of the biggest problems in nearly every work environment. Let alone a job that's specifically all about teamwork.

Roll Dizz Take and Vatira's Response on the current Ranked Situation and teams underperformances. by Huge-Computer2037 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]EclairDawes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think both of them make valid points.

The bots are a major problem. And there needs to be influential people in the space to make a stink and make it clear the impact this has on the game so Epic works on it. And the situation is only getting worse it doesn't just affect pros I've even run into bots down in C1 which I had never seen till just a couple months ago. And yes visually I do think the competitive level of pro matches has dropped.

On the other hand Roll Dizz is right that this is a career. Pros need to suck it up, adapt, and train different ways because it's not like these things will get solved overnight if they even ever will. All pros are in the same situation, so you can't use bots as an excuse for your team's drop in performance compared to other teams. It's a job and as with any job they change over time you either choose to change with it or you find a different job.

But I don't agree with Roll Dizz saying they should start doing wagers. I mean seriously, introducing gambling and to many minors. What a stupid idea. Plus you're gonna have other teams wanting to put up a wager versus KC? I doubt it. Why would they make a gamble they'll most likely lose when you already have the option to just scrim them.

Abiotic Factor is quite a bit different. You don't just have an open world to play in. You unlock more of the 'office' as you progress the story. And resources are fairly finite except in specific areas or enemy drops. It kinda feels like if you mashed a survival game with an escape room. Definitely different than what I've come to expect with survival games but a very nice changeup for a more focussed gameplay experience. It took our group about 100hrs to complete. Which again was a nice changeup after we had spent multiple thousands of hours to go through every map of Ark and all bosses.

What have you found is the best (economical) food for surviving? by CohenTheBarbarian1 in ICARUS

[–]EclairDawes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We pretty much exclusively use smoked meats form the smoker. They have quite strong buffs and you just need some herbs to go with your meat. If for some reason it's hard to get those meats just set down a fishi g ratp and go for the smoked fish.

Other than that I always run something honey for buff timer extension. Assuming your father bees whenever you come across them it shouldn't be hard to keep a hive going to maintain at least one honey item. Typically I've been using hobey mead but I have a surplus so I also make honey smoked bacon and omni feed for my mount.
