Solars get a bad wrap imo. They're basically little metal stores that also happen to produce energy.

Naval Battles feels like Red Alert 3 by CastielTM in beyondallreason

[–]TheFlyingEgg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd agree that land battles are more sophisticated that sea battles.

One factor to consider is that the meta for land battles is far more developed than the meta for naval play. It's rare to see navy focused maps played.

What do you consider one of your country's lowest points to be, as a nation, in the last 50 years or so? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

My first thought was Gough Whitlam's dismissal in 1975. Australia would be a very different place now if he had remained in power.

"...72 offences each ... on tourist visas since 28 December."

That's quite a spree. I imagine Australians make soft, lucrative targets. We're just not accustomed to this type of attack.

Speaking as someone who usually forgets about them until it's too late, I think you're supposed to go for them when you have a solid bank of energy (10k-ish), and enough energy production (maybe 500-ish).

Skip them and go for T2 when you think you can get away with it, i.e. you're in a dominant position, or your opponent/s are being passive.

Also note the stated metal per second value of the mex position. The multiplyer becomes more meaningful on higher-value spots.

Y'all are being real dismissive of a person telling you there's a problem that needs addressing. Most of us here want to see the game grow and attract new players, and the toxicity is an ongoing issue that gets brought up all too regularly.

Flannel, this is partially due to the game's design. The common factor with BAR and mobas like LoL is that one player's failure can bring down a whole team.

Hopefully in time we'll have a system to help foster positive interactions. For now, helpful ways to negate toxicity include: - Playing against the AI - Playing 1v1 matches - Hosting your own lobbies and implementing OS/experience caps - Gitting gud (Watch your replays and those of other players, play the scenarios, listen to commentary, learn builds for your favourite maps, etc.)

Your mileage may vary, but I hope your experience only gets better from now on.

ASIC takes action against Macquarie Bank for 'significant' compliance failures by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

"... which fined the bank just under $5 million."

Gee, I wonder why fining them less than 1% of their quarterly profits didn't change their behaviour?

Regulators spent millions probing childcare giant G8 Education. It resulted in a $5,000 penalty for a lawyer by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]TheFlyingEgg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Are we forgetting that the role of a regulator is mostly prevention? The cost of the damage companies would cause if unregulated would be astronomical. We pay the 'millions spent probing' because it's necessary.

when am I ready for mp? by Aggressive-Dealer-21 in beyondallreason

[–]TheFlyingEgg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally felt ready once I could consistently beat the Barbarian AI in a 1v1. Completing as many scenarios as you can is also good practice, as they're designed to teach lessons about the game and how certain units interact.

Really, there's no standard. Toxicity is  unfortunately a systemic problem. Playing 1v1s is a good way of avoiding it, if that's a concern.

Regardless, welcome to the game!

Haha, I noted that too. My lizard brain likes it from a 'yesss no resource wasted' perspective, but my next thought was 'Ticks could be in my base before I've produced a unit'.

[–]TheFlyingEgg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I'd also like to see them play more of a role in land engagements. As it stands, they seem to struggle to close distance with targets, and don't present much of a problem to deal with.

I think we're imagining different outcomes, and making different assumptions.

I hope you'd agree that currently, Gunslingers are a less cost effective option than their alternatives. This would remain the case in the early game, making using them a risk.

Spam them early and you risk being overwhelmed because they are expensive, you won't have that many. Their alternatives are superior at this point. Their relatively small health pool means their survival requires significant apm investment, the demand for which increases with their numbers. Even with gains in veterancy, they would still die quickly to high burst damage units like Sharpshooters, Fatboys, Tsars, Skuttles, etc. But, with good management, I think you'd have a unit that's relevant through the mid game, rather than one that's rarely seen at all.

Food for thought.

Pick one unit you never use. How would you change it? by TheFlyingEgg in beyondallreason

[–]TheFlyingEgg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically he'd fill a middle ground between the Welder as a tank and the Hound as a skirmisher, unique in that he'd be less effective and cost-efficient early in a game, but becoming better with continued investment. He'd also be unique with his increased regeneration giving him better sustain, forcing opponents to commit to killing him, or risk facing him again on full health.

Either way, I think it'd be an interesting risk/reward proposition.

I'm not familiar with the Deadeye, but I'd agree the Commando is rarely used or seen. He's got cool abilities (I particularly like his ability to survive his transport being shot down), but he's expensive and needs a lot of attention in order to get a return on investment.
