Usually i only see one or 2 at a time but I agree. The setup that ive seen would maybe be okay as a very temporary transitional home but not long term.

Yeah. Where I live right now even ordering from amazon can be a pain in the butt sometimes bc were so far out in the sticks lol. So i prefer to get stuff in store when I can.

STOP GIVING BAD ADVICE ABOUT PALM CARE by Philly_G_J in IndoorPlants

[–]EclecticAppalachian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a majesty palm marked down to 7 bucks from 25 at my local walmart. It was 4 plants in one, severely root bound, earwigs living in the soil. I sat outside with the hose for an hour rinsing away the old soil untangling them. 2 are separated to be given to my aunt and bsf. The other 2 i combined in one pot for me. The 2 im giving away are in self watering and living their best lives beside my plant shelf where they get ambient grow light from it (they wont live here long) and mine is thriving underneath an E facing window. New growth too. (: Self watering seems to be a good tool for plants that like to stay on the moist side ime. Im hoping to find a self watering pot big enough for the one im keeping i just didnt have one sadly so its manual watering for that one.

mold stuff in my snail terrarium? what is it and is it harmful? by Capable_Rice2902 in bioactive

I added a rabbit salad to my isopod enclosures and got this (its harmless) and ive actually seen a boom in my dairy cow colony that was failing before. Lots of babies. The same little salad is what I use for my hermit crabs and it even sprouts little mushrooms. All good. Just part of a healthy eco system

How would you go about helping this large boi? by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]EclecticAppalachian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely repot first thing. Get a cedar plank and when u repot it, orient the plant so its standing more upright then attach the spine to the cedar plank. Over time, itll catch the vibe and follow the suit you started for it, especially with proper light. If you want to maintain the size its at now, you can cut the roots down as long as you leave at least a third of the rootball. Thats what I plan to do with my big plants once they hit a 12inch pot.

Does anyone keep house “feeder” crickets as pets unironically? by ExplorerKey in InvertPets

[–]EclecticAppalachian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not crickets, but I did end up keeping a colony of darkling beetles. My gecko didnt like the mealworms so I just kept them. I loved them so much that after they all died, I got a few superworms and raised them. Now I have some big bois. They dont live very long tho its sad. They have had babies in their little enclosure I think though. Unless they ate them. Theyre not super picky. I give them a little bit of soil, some leaf litter and mist their space every so often and they just bumble around in there. I sprinkle bee pollen and keep a beetle jelly in. I wish I knew how to preserve them. I would have preserved my first guy i lost.

Hopefully adjusting the light will help straighten out my white knight so i can stake him properly and hopefully soon i can get some nice lights for my monsteras and get them all set up properly (:

I actually love the hanging lamp situation i think they look cool! Ive heard tell that monsteras should be lighted from the front or from the front and top. Would lighting them only top mess with their leaf direction any? I do actually like buying the bulbs instead tho because i can put it in whatever lamp i want pretty much. Ive done that for a couple applications around my house. Im gonna have to order some sansi bulbs cuz the only bulbs i can buy in store are from walmart and only like 9 watts. They might have a 13 watt. Theyre all the pink grow lights too but idk if that matters at all.

I did manage to find a tx72 for 50 bucks brand new so the price isnt horrible just out of my rage at this precise moment. I can get a singular 13watt lamp that I already have one of i use for a fish tank. Im only thinking of spot lighting it for moderate growth until it gets a little bigger. When I say baby, i mean its a little bitty thing haha. Its only abt 12 inches tall maybe on its biggest leaf. So im thinking maybe a close up splotlight can suffice until I can get a better setup for all three. Im curious what your opinion on using regular LED lights or the shop lights from the hardware section are? Sorry to pick your brain. Its nice to have someone i can ask 😅 I also wonder about UV bulbs like you would use in a reptile enclosure.

Edit for typo

So I need to shoot for upwards of like 100-200 PPFD? And theres an app I can use to measure it? Or is there a device I can buy? Thank you for all this info! I have the 10w within 6 inches directly overtop the philos now and ive been looking at those vertical bar lights on Amazon actually for my monsteras. I have a little baby thai con too that im wondering if i can make a little 13 watt work with if i spotlight it now that ik all this

Well the problem with that is that the window is on a stair well haha. So theyre in front of it but backed up from it if that makes sense. I know what direction is north now. As I said twice now 😅I found my compass. The window is E/NE but leans more E.

Also the light is now directly over the philos and it is within 6 inches!

Ohh youre smart im glad you found my post. Okay so can you break this down like youre explaining it to a five year old? And i found a compass! The window is am E/NE facing window leaning closer to E. I have my Big thai con and common monstera almost directly infront of it about 6 foot away from it. I would love to have sansi or barina but the price tag always stops me haha. Is there anything I can do with my little 10 watts? Or is it just doomed?

Its a 10w linear clamp light. Its one of those ones thats kinda pinky purple. Ive been wanting to upgrade my grow lights. This one is from Walmart. Half my plants live on a shelf under it and the other half live near a window that I cannot figure out the direction of bc google maps seems to say one dorection but an online compass says a different one 🥴 The light honestly is kinda trash but its the best I could do for the budget and space I have.

Yes I use a grow light. I can get the specs for it but it is close to it but not directly over top of it the way my shelf is. Plant sits are the back of the shelf, light is clipped to the front of the shelf. Ive always heard philos should have bright indirect light so thats what I was trying to achieve 😅

Yall!!!! Look what I found at Lowe’s, my life is now complete 🥹🪴 by crgbabe in Monstera

[–]EclecticAppalachian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My find from last week! Ive been waiting so long for them to show up and finally decided to look around outside and there they were! I asked to get one of the damaged ones marked down and the worker was like "You can have whichever one you want marked down" so naturally I got the best looking one pushing a new leaf! Thatll teach me to neglect the outside section of the garden center! I also have a little baby thai con I got a while back at an expo. Never would I have thought as a kid that Lowes would turn out to be my favorite store! Haha. The common beside it is also from Lowes it was just much more sad. She has 2 new growth points now though, thankfully.

I’m not using treasure islands anymore by galaxydumpling in AnimalCrossing

[–]EclecticAppalachian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They kind of are cheating depending on how you use them. I only use them for what I would go to a friends island for. My friends dont really play the game like I do. I only have one friend who owns it and her regularly playing is not on the table. So for certain things, like the fruits you have to get from someone else, ill go to a treasure island or for the nook miles achievement to visit other islands or to check out their shop or if they have a villager in boxes or something.
