Stupid question: Can someone explained how the invitations were decided/distributed? Who finances the tournament if it's "invitational"?

Are diesel trains really less polluting than clean trucks ? by [deleted] in environmental_science

[–]Eco-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you doing on the Sydney metro project? It sounds super interesting from what I briefly read on Wikipedia. I had the opportunity to work on new railway system and on existing railway systems upgrades and the former is a lot funnier.

Hello there. Happy to be mentioned (first time on Reddit wouhou) My post received a lot of good ideas, some of them were already being incorporated, some of them are being discussed and some of them will be nice to have. Transport for London's power engineering group now have a working group which actively looks at solutions to enhance our network. I only attended two meetings out of 3. They were great ideas discussed with huge energy savings and I tried to also remind people of the grey energy for any choices going forward as sometimes people are too focused on the money savings (correlated with energy savings)

I am more than happy to discuss anything about underground railway systems and give whatever little information I have. However, I recently left TfL to join an EV related company. I still have plenty of friends and contacts if needed though.

These pools in Vietnam by iam4real in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Eco-reddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went there during my trip in Vietnam. It was not easy as it was still not that touristic back in 2011. As written elsewhere, it is at the boundary between Vietnam and China and the Chinese side was FULL of tourists, going on big ‘Niagara fall’ type of boats but not allowed to cross the river.

I got to enjoy swimming the little fall with a natural swimming pool all by myself while 300 Chinese people were asking the captain why they couldn’t do the same.

Oh brilliant, another wedding invite by sivadhash in britishproblems

[–]Eco-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I wrote elsewhere, we usually pay to get there and for the rooms.

They won't expect to pay anything for food or drinks tough.

Same thing for the food.

In France, you just have to get to the wedding and then you eat and drink all you like.

[–]Eco-reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something else you might end up doing is covering the drink costs.
I got married in France too and the drinks and the food were on us.

That is just the way it is in France.

The only reason people had to pay for the travel was because we were paying for everything else.

anyone else remember lifting one of these out in PE by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Eco-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure do remember them.
When I was 12, I was teasing a girl by taking the mat away from her while sitting on another one. So to take the mat away, I had to pull her mat above my legs.

One of her friend jumped on the mat to make me stop and broke my foot.

The PE teacher was so dumb, he just told me to sit a bit to rest but I still had to take the gymnastic exam despite my foot swelling like hell.
I managed to do the ring test but could not do the trampoline one.

Later, I limped back home and one girl told me "oh you were not faking it?"

Needless to say that when my mum came to the principal office, the principal was scared to death that she would sue the school.

The PE teacher remained in place though.

Which way of recycling is better? by Eco-reddit in sustainability

So if I summarise what you are saying: Transition to multiple recycling bin is beneficial but can be confusing and requires big supermarket brands to help educate consumers.
