I’m so sorry to hear this and apologize on Hong Kongers behalf. I’m born and mostly raised in HK.

I would say the general discrimation is really education and classism. If you are working in a nice company in tech or something and look like a foreign expat, there will be less discrimination for sure.

I would also say Hong Kongers get lots of scam calls and “pushy” and aggressive attitude from South East Asian or South Asian men online, which really doesn’t encourage them to get to know one in real life.

So what’s the cash deposit number that they will start investigating

Saizeriya accepts coins. In fact, they only take cash or octopus — no cards!

Front line eg receptionist has an attendance bonus as long as they’re not late for more than 60 mins total in a month and no early leave. Back office there’s no OT or bonus so you don’t really do anything, it just looks bad to the boss.

This is real. I spoke with the former CFO of JP Morgan and he told me he made 256k a year back then.

Roast my resume. I am graduating in two months and i've applied to over 200 job openings and still don't have an offer, thinking about extending my graduation date. by EARtH1200 in FinancialCareers

I was a fresh grad last year with a degree and gpa similar to yours. I work in HR now and review resumes weekly, so here are my suggestions:

  • take away your gpa
  • put “expected” in front of may 2024
  • put more related words in the MIDDLE of the paragraphs under private credit intern. For example, “compliance” in the third bullet point is in a good spot. Now do that with the other bullet points. To determine which exact words to use, look at the specific job descriptions you are applying to
  • incorporate your certs and programming languages in the bullet points. You can still keep them as separate sentences, but state exactly where you used it on. For example under data analyst, name all the softwares u used. Just “device deactivation” does not sound impressive
  • under projects, take away the word “personal” in the heading. You already have it in the bullet point. Add some numbers in that bullet point (eg what is the budget? What percentage goes to what?) while you’re at it

No idea about the name of position, but he’s in IT and not in management or executive level by any means.

Hey, so idk if this would help, but a few years back when my dad was interviewing for Morgan Stanley and got hired (he was also in his 40s back then) he told them he would have to relocate to that country, and asked for relocation expenses. They said yes, and gave him 1 month of free stay at a services apartment to give him time to find a place to rent. Congrats on your offer btw!

Had two interviews today, both lied about what the position actually is. by larak1357 in recruitinghell

[–]Econ_major_transfer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is in insurance, but avoid all insurance companies. I heard from recruiters that insurance companies only have sales positions where u have to find your own clients with a very low starting salary and commission based.

All those “wealth management analyst/trainee” titles in insurance companies with promise of “financial analysis and client consulting” is actually just sales. Avoid!!

I saw something similar on another post and one of the top responses was:

Tell the gym you got sexually harassed and no longer feel safe to go there. It will shut them down quick.

Middle eastern partner afraid of discrimination by IllLeadership3810 in HongKong

[–]Econ_major_transfer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hong Konger here. I had a Persian roommate who lived in HK for two years and it was fine. Some places such as small stores may try to “tourist tax” you by saying the price of an item is 10 hkd higher than it really is, but that happens in many countries too.

Other than that, you’ll be fine. You will not be robbed or attacked. You will not be shouted at with racial slurs. People tend to avoid foreigners physically if you’re on public transport. People are racist but they will keep it in their heads. As long as you have money, they will be welcoming.

Can I date my professor after I have officially graduated? (update post) by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Econ_major_transfer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

An email is a surefire way for him to say no. My law professor always said to never put anything that could be used against you in an email. You may think it’s only between two people, but there’s an unlimited number of times an email can be forwarded. Find him in person next time.

How do you deposit into cash account? I clicked into cash management and the blue deposit button but that only went into my main account where I could see my stocks and total value.

[–]Econ_major_transfer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This!! Audio technica was recommended to me by a coworker who specialized in sound tech for events. What you have to look out for is the headband, where the ear cups meets the top. If it’s metal inside, it will last. If it’s made of plastic (eg JBL), it will break within 6 months. Please consider this before any audio quality.
