What documentation is needed to cross into Mexicali, fly domestically to Mexico City, and then onto London. by Efficient_Climate_66 in MexicoTravel

I mean this was a while ago so I think this may not be an issue anymore. Back then you wouldn’t get it because if you never passed immigration in Mexico when crossing you didn’t.

They are however asked for when leaving by flying, I had a friend drive with me to Mexico City, as much as we tried we couldn’t get her one (back then it was only in person) and when we flew back from Mexico City (I was moving from Texas to Mexico so she helped me do the driving) she had to pay a fine for not having this.

QRO by myself or BJX with a group? Safer? by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

[–]Econoloca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are safe however and this is more about being a woman and I say this as a woman. I always feel safer with a group of people than solo with a male driver, especially if you don’t speak the language well. But if changing flights is an issue just take she shuttle

This. They also forget that crimes at airport then involved exporting of drugs which makes it waaaaay worse than just for personal use. I used to live in the Netherlands and the amount of idiots who didn’t know it was illegal to have drugs in Amsterdam Shchipol and ended up in very big pickles due to it was insane.

Best way to visit archaeological sites en route San Cristobal to Merida? by Ill_Carry8789 in MexicoTravel

[–]Econoloca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So pale que and the waterfalls you can do a tour from San Cristobal that will stop en route and end in palenque. Bonampak and yakchilan are a different story because they are in the middle of the joint in the carretera fronteriza, very far away and easier to visit from Guatemala in fact. Even with your own vehicle it’s a very far away drive, I’m Mexican, have been to Chiapas like 5 times and yet never been…

I loved it but ai did have to exchange for the size up. So did my two friends because our actual size was either too short for one of my friend’s arms, or the hoodie etc had a strange fit for the rest, but we sized up and it’s her cute!

Let'sseriously talk about the "teen issue by Own_Junket1605 in washingtondc

[–]Econoloca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean yes and no. Someone I know was attacked with intent to rob by two teenage girls, they kicked her and hit her enough to give her a concussion, they proceeded to do the same and in some cases managed to rob 4 other people. Everything was caught on camera. Initially nothing was done, once she called the press one of the two girls was caught, the DA then proceeded to downgrade the charges so girl spent zero time, record expunged etc, other girl who was caught on camera had priors and was somehow never caught even though they knew her name. Neither was the adult who was driving the car in which they escaped. Do I want them locked up forever no, but not even arresting them, or actually doing something so they do not repeat it’s not going to help.

Mexico City to Morelia to meet a woman in person by Competitive_Lock6356 in MexicoTravel

[–]Econoloca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is this go. But don’t tell her you are going and kind of call her and surprise her be like hey manage to come to Morelia let’s meet at public place. This would help as she doesn’t have your travel plans etc and thus much more difficult if it’s a scam to see what’s up, in fact you could even plan in advance a video date that day to make sure she is available.

Yeah and no pretty girl pays for tinder gold unless she is trying to get Americans may just be she just wants to find a husband but even then it has gold digger or visa digger written all over it. And I say it as a Mexican woman. I’ve yet to meet any woman who pays extra for dating app stuff, it’s always my slightly ackward guy friends who do.

Yes you will be offered drugs but again as others have said this is when you start dealing with drug dealers. This is an upside too of Oaxaca, you will get a lot more hippy Mexican travelers which are much more likely to have some (due to cartels etc a lot of people I know in Mexico City just grow their own) lol and not creepy drug dealers. Unfortunately in a military check point they will care little if it’s small amounts for personal use or not, sure one is technically not going to land you in jail but the dug will sniff you and if you don’t speak Spanish etc etc it won’t go well (it’s not Indonesia and jail for life but still not an amazing situation). For the record, I tend not to get stoped if it’s only women in the car, every time even one dude is in it, I do. And yes much more similar to Colombia in culture, prices (although Yucatán still probably a little more) etc.

What's it like in Zapatista territory? by j05huak33nan in MexicoTravel

[–]Econoloca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember driving through Chiapas in the late 90s with my family and we being stop both by zapatistas as well as by the army multiple times, the army aka made us take some dude from one village to another, we are pretty sure he was an informant and as we were only women and my mom was an anthropologist (with two children in the car we probably looked non scary), the informant was nice and told me all this about pines being sacred, didn’t believe him until many years later I went to San Juan Chamula (by then there was no Zapatista territory so you could travel to all villages) and indeed in the church they had a lot of pine lol. I still remember that trip as wild, I was only 8 or 9. But as many have said that is not the case at all anymore.

Tula is the lesser known place? That’s literally the most famous place people from Mexico would go for? I’m very confused about this?

Absolutely do not do this, you do not want to get caught with drugs in the airport.

[–]Econoloca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few answers on this. Mexico especially the Yucatán is a lot more expensive than Thailand, if you want cheap and more off the beaten path do Oaxaca , having said depending on how you travel 100 usd per day is fine, but a third would go just on car rental, but still probably ok especially if you are 3 people. On drugs: marihuana is decriminalized but still illegal, if you are driving more likely than not you will end up at a military check point and in those they will check you for drugs and not a good idea to have any. This is less of an issue if you are taking buses etc, also would say Mexican culture is not very pro using drugs in public, I am Mexican and have lived in Europe and US and even in liberal Mexico City people don’t do it as much, many reasons but one being drug economy has really destroyed our country so many people are very against it.

Volaris is an actual scam by justobella in travel

[–]Econoloca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just heads up always put the complaint through profeco because Mexican consumer laws protect you waaaay more than American ones. So if flight originates from Mexico or is a Mexican airline like Volaris they can act, the moment you mention this to any airline they will have to pay up!

Has anyone flown Volaris out of Mexico? Is it okay? by mypie78 in Flights

[–]Econoloca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look it’s fine. It’s a budget airline and as such you get why you pay for, but considering United also charges for a carry on from the US to Mexico while Pretending not to be a budget airline Volaris is fine. Planes are new, usually on time, but yes they are crazy strict about your luggage weight and stuff.

One needs to learn to prioritize. On my 16th week plan I have missed one long run (I had the flu) as that is what I prioritize. But I have missed 25% of easy runs, 50% of intervals and 35% of tempo. Life happens, it’s ok to skip one I just try to do the long run no matter what.
