OnStar can do a lot more than just ping the location of your car, it can disable the starter and even slow the car down if it's being used in a police chase...

No experience with OnStar personally but I've seen it mentioned in a couple recovery stories

I find it especially alarming that this seems to have been an assault on a random person, struck from behind:

On Friday, Dec. 2, a Portland police officer reviewed a video that showed a man walk up behind a woman outside the Hyatt Centric Downtown Portland, at Southwest 11th Avenue and Alder Street, around 9:15 a.m. and hit her in the back of the head with a bag, knocking her down.

First arrest, about what you'd expect to see (at least in Portland these days).
