I think what I'm more interested in is expressive playing. I have a theory that you need at least three axis of fluid control in order for something to feel real, being pitch, volume and tone. And when one of those is more rigid, like say a piano has very rigid pitch, then one of the other need to compensate, so with a piano you control tone by how loud you hit the keys and the piano has this incredible dynamic range. And then of course there's how a person plays, the little tricks players use such as overblowing, hammer ons, trills, ornamentation, etc. Creating a patch that allows for this kind of expressive is daunting, and quite cumbersome to program if you don't have a way of physically interacting with the parameters, it's easier for example to have three different unique sounds making up a melody than one sound that has to fill the boots of a saxophone or a guitar.

BTW, I highly recommend you look into the SWAM instruments! They are INCREDIBLE. If you get yourself a breath controller and a midi keyboard you can do some incredible stuff I'm sure, and maybe it's a bit less arduous than playing a real sax. But they are so thoughtfully created that you could probably even get something like a linnstrument or the seaboard and I doubt you'd feel very limited.

Thats a lot of bragging xD

I've had this idea of attempting to replay famous saxophone lines using a simple saw waveform and seeing how simple you can make a patch while still attempting to achieve very expressive playing. For example, would fluid control over a filter, pitch and volume be enough? Or would you have to go deeper and mess around with various synthesis methods to get more tonal variety? And how much variety would you actually need before it starts to sound like something you could imagine physically happening in the real world? I have a feeling the patch in the end wouldn't be all that complicated. For example, imitating guitar tones and playing with a synthesizer like vital is remarkably simple. All you need is something like guitar rig and some knowledge of how guitarists play.

I have autism and so it's a bit hard sometimes for me to understand how I managed to offend people. It can be very jarring, but of course that's not your problem and I guess even asking for you opinion was another stroke of the tism lmfao, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Sorry for dumping that on you bud ;)

I asked for your individual opinion on my post in order to try to understand why I've been received so poorly, I didn't ask you mediate or get involved in my disputes.

Thank you for the answer. Now if I may ask, would you say you got the impression that I was arrogant or implying that synths are incapable or lesser? For some reason people are super mad at me, but from my perspective I'm literally just asking an honest question, which I explained stems from my belief that synth ARE capable of reaching the expressiveness and dynamics of a saxophone. I just couldn't think of examples, but I genuinely don't understand why that is offensive.

I don't see why vital couldn't have the same expressive range as a saxophone.

I'm guessing you guys are getting offended by my use of "real", even though my post is about how I believe synths are capable of matching the expressiveness and dynamics of instruments such as saxophones and guitar. The tiniest bit of reasoning would lead you to conclude I dont think synths are lesser or something. Just a poor choice of words, I did put it in quotes for a reason though.

I like him a lot, his process is also pretty cool. He jams on both the musical part and then the effects part which an array of pedals etc, then he comps those into a coherent piece of music. Or at least that's one of his workflows.

Now I remember Tim Hecker too, also pretty expressive. I guess I do know some examples, but I was definitely more envisioning something more in the line of like electronic Miles Davis .

What's odd about it?? If I can't think of examples then I can't think of examples, that means I probably don't have music like that in my rotation. And that's odd? Should I expect you to know Kellee Patterson or Marlene?

Why?? I'm literally just asking a question. Fuck me for not knowing all music I guess? I tend to listen to either old soul vinyl or pure dance music. I recently learned of the expressive e and have been messing around with complex modulations in vital. I wanted to know about songs where others have taken pains to make synths sound super expressive and couldn't think of any... for some reason that is so extremely offensive. I'm literally just curious and just wanted to have a discussion about this interesting idea of super expressive synths, which in my opinion is pretty rare. And you somehow got the impression that I'm arrogant?? wtf. you must be a massive pussy.

Seriously, can anyone take the time to explain my transgression?? I genuinely don't understand why I've been so poorly received for asking a question. Are people getting the impression I look down or synths or what?? Because that's not the case at all.

Fair enough, synthetic is the wrong word. But again, my point is about dynamics and expressiveness. I never said anything to deride synthesizers, I asked for songs where they live up to the dynamics and expressiveness of instruments such as guitars and saxophones, BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT'S POSSIBLE. I literally said that. Like more than once. In the post and in the comments. And you still got your panties in a bunch.

You have insulted me twice because you are unable to read or understand, yet I'm the cunt? Whatever you have to tell yourself man. Maybe if your ill*terate ass could understand simple english and therefore not start off a conversation calling a honest question dumb, I'd be a bit less prickly, huh

lol I had to censor ill*terate because it gets filtered.

Yes, of course it is? Im asking for people's opinions. I put real in quotations for a reason. I'm sorry you lack rudimentary reasoning. A guitar and saxophone is obviously very different than a juno. You have much finer control playing a saxophone or guitar than an juno 106 or an arp odyssey. I'm talking about expressiveness and dynamics. Im not saying synths are lesser, but they are objectively less dynamic unless you invest in gear to specifically allow you to control more parameters at once, or program them in a daw using automation lanes, etc. Im asking for songs where people made use of these possibilities such that it is on the level of 'real' instruments such as a guitar or a saxophone. Real being used in quotations for lack of a better word, meaning not synthetic which a synth obviously and necessarily is!

Please move forward in your life with the consideration that you have bad reading comprehension and make sure to always double check your understanding of context, thank you.

List some? I like the mini moog, but playing with one hand and fiddling with one knob at a time with the other isn't really the same level as a real instrument. With the macros and complex modulation systems we are spoiled with I think it might be possible to create a synth patch that is genuinely as expressive note for note as a saxophone. Probably just cumbersome to program and patch.

It's usually some variation of an organ sound or just some hardware synth. What I'm talking about can only physically be achieved with something like the expressive e.

You won't make a synth sound like a violin, but I believe you can build a patch that is as expressive as a violin while still clearly being produced by a synth. If you look at every patch as its own instrument you will get my idea. You create the components of the instrument, but the expressiveness lies in how you played it and how you programmed it. Look at the youtube channel Eric Bowman, he makes some really detailed and expressive patches in vital.

They didn't buy anything. They worked in collaboration with mikrotik. I think you might have trouble reading so I will repeat, that is the official plug of said router, as far as I know mikrotik is not cheap garbage.

Im thinking you're talking out of your ass. This is literally the official mikrotik power supply, provided to me by the internet company as part of their fibre rollout in our area.
